Saiko from Bakuman has been featured prominently on the last two covers; not like Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece, but as prominently as Gintama and Reborn.

Interesting news. I hear from the Psyren volume thread that some stores in Japan have said that the first print of Psyren volume 4 has been selling out in some locations. This is definitely a good sign for the series.

Oh how I wish, but you misread:

Uhm, on the other hand apparently the first edition of third volume of Psyren has been sold out in Japan.

In other news, I bought Psyren 4 yesterday... 2-3 weeks till it arrives, but I did my part in helping the series! :D

Wow...It's safe to say that Bakuman is a hit. Psyren is in a pretty good place as well.

Eleven's not bad. Big improvement over past rankings. Bakuman is hardly surprising; new Obata isn't exactly a hard sell. It's a good [yeah, after finding it boring at first it finally wore me down, Bakuman is a great series] series that also appeals to an older audience, marketing it has to be an editors dream.

It's sort of unassured to really say Bakuman is a hit just yet...remember: Ral Grad started off a hit too before it just fell apart...but this has Ohba and Obata so we should give it a couple more volumes to prove that it hangs out along with Death Note. (though at this point I wouldn't be surprised if Bakuman gets licensed in the US before a bunch of other series)

Outside Bakuman's blasting start, ES21 and To-Love both seem to show their formidability on the ranks...and Sket isn't doing too bad either.

I know!

Bakuman will probablly become an Anime fast since it is the DN creators. Though I would be curious how they work it in America where less people in America know what "Manga" is.

But Bakuman is totally a big hit with the credentials to back it up. Give it a few more chapters and it will be solid.

ES21 being in third was a surprise...

I'm sure people know what manga is, even those who are anime-only ppl know that the original is from the manga. Don't know about the US though as such.

I wonder how fast Toriko will get licensed. It is the other 08 hit.

VIZ is so inconsistent it hardly seems to matter if it's a hit or not. Look at how long it took to license Gintama.

(turns and sees pile of other potential hits or Viz licenses including Neuro, To-Love, Sket, Mx0 and some shorter but quirkier series like Samurai Usagi and Hatsukoi)

At the rate Viz is going...never. Just watch Bakuman get licensed before all of the above and more...

Bakuman will be licensed first because it has the "From the creators of Death Note!" marketing line. Plus, with how manga works in Japan being even less known among American manga fans (there are a fair amount who really don't read Edited Mangas, just licensed stuff) it could sell pretty well off of the novelty of finding out how manga is actually made. And I'd say that the fact that Bakuman chapters get put up translated on the Jumpland website (although I don't know if Viz does the translating) is probably an indication that they're trying to push Bakuman in an English market.

But Viz DOES like to license hits quickly. I mean, Tegami Bachi (why they're calling it this when the Japanese logo itself says "Letter Bee", I don't know...) is about two years old, yet because it's been one of the bigger series' in Jump S.Q., they're licensing it. Gintama is a bit of an otaku manga, so it'd be harder for American fans to get the jokes, and it's also not a top tier series, so it figures that Viz waited a while. By the time it gets to 10 volumes or so, Toriko could very well be licensed. Even sooner if it manages to get a spot on the Big 3, or turn it into a Big 4. I'm still hoping that it dethrones Bleach, but that's a different issue...

I mean like HITS, not second tier series.

Funny, Black Cat appeared 2nd tier from it's rankings during it's run...and it got enough support for a US run.

I could see Toriko maybe coming to the US if somehow it really is a "Big 4" now or one of the "Big 3" gets thrown out. (I wouldn't mind Bleach's fall too but unfortunately I think Shueisha is giving Pierrot money to keep it going cause they're afraid of it's collapse without an anime)

Yasunori's one shot looks really good. HnC wasn't very good, but showed enough potential I've been looking forward to his next serialization. His art has improved a great deal since Jamais Vu.

The Crow poster it's from the series that Eiji is working in Bakuman right?

Is it also gonna be serialized in shonen jump as another series or it's some kind of promotional poster for Bakuman? If it's the former, who is under Eiji's name? Ohba?
