The three newish series I'm most interested in are all safe. Anything Hoop Men could replace, should it be successful, are low priorities of mine. Psyren is the only series I like that I'm concerned for, and it's been incredibly resilient over the last year.

i think sket dance COULD end soon and it'd work well. possibly one of the most important moments in the series is upon us at the moment

onihime wants to confess to bossun it seems

meaning that all that's left is for characters like switch and the occult chick to get closure (also for switch to reopen up to the world) and the series will have had it's impact and can leave knowing it did good

Sket is a very good series, it would be a shame to end to so soon. I'd like to see it get between 10 and 15 volumes. I think that would be about perfect. Enough time to tell a good story without any stretching.

Thank you man. Sincerely I'm reading only 2 manga, so I don't know much about others. I'm current reading only Naruto and Bakuman. Mh, what do you recommend starting to read?
Since you mention reading Naruto, I'll recommend Hunter X Hunter. It has many similarities including the main character being a kid striving for an ultimate goal (finding his father as opposed to becoming hokage), an exam (to become a hunter as opposed to a chunin), a system for aura use (nen opposed to chakra), main character who wants revenge for the annihilation of his clain (Kurapika opposed to Sasuke), etc. Some people say that Naruto is a rip-off of HxH, but I think that they have many distinctions along with similarities to make them both great unique series. I do prefer HxH though by a wide margin, but that's beside the point. :P

As for a manga to recommend off of you liking Bakuman...I'd probably choose Death Note, since it's by the same artist and writer. It is rather different though, so maybe read the first few chapters to see if it's for you or not.

There are plenty of other manga I could recommend, but the best thing to do would be to just start browsing through synopses of different series and start reading one that peaks your interest. There are many different shounen, seinen, and other types of manga out there that are worth a read.

Good luck! :D

this is not a reccomendation thread, so we should cut it off soon, but i'll counteract by saying if you haven't read death note don't, for you always risk becoming one of THEM. you know, those uber fans who won't hear a word against the light novel. and it is a light novel, the visuals are rarely needed. i like it, but it's not all that

other ongoing series worth looking into are fairy tail and gintama i guess....

now where's our topic at?

I'm surprised but happy that Bokke is getting a color. Nura to, although I have not started it yet. Let's hear it for the underdogs! I don't think Bakuman needed another cover so soon...color is fine, though.

Oh yeah...the topic. I meant to say something in regards to that, but it totally slipped my mind. :P

One thing that I noticed about the bottom 5 was the obvious exclusion of To Love. Initially I thought to myself, "What the junk is going on? To Love has been sucking lately!", and then I realized what 8 chapters from this issue was...the first of the two part 'Saki running away from home' chapters, which ended with the apparent betrayal of her friend, so I can see how it would be up. It has been steadily getting worse since then with the latest of the chapters being abysmal, so it'll be interesting to see when it ends back down in its position as last in the ToC.

Also, Death Note was rather text heavy, but I felt like both Death Note and Bakuman's writer drew me into both mangas in similar ways. Not sure exactly how to explain it, but I feel like I'm definitely a fan of the writer mangaka's style and would recommend Bakuman to someone that read Death Note just as much as the other way around.

I think the biggest problem with To-Love is that it never really exercised the potential it had in the first year. Back then, it was sort of wacky but had enough heart and what looked like an interesting story with a bit of ecchi here or there. Sadly...that all went away after the end of the first year (probably concluding with the story with Lala's father) and since then it's just been "a retarded UY with twice the fanservice". I guess the Saki two-parter was one of the moments when the series seemed to show a flash of what could have been...and thus the higher rank as you said.

Don't hate on Death Note just cuz idiots took it over. Death Note was awesome before the anime came out and all the Narutards and Bleach freaks watched it and ran it into the ground.

But yeah, I hope Sket Dance doesn't end. I really hope it can last long enough to get 12 volumes. That'd be perfect. How far away from that goal is that? I am not sure how many unreleased chapters there are. I assume it probably has enough for about 9 volumes as of now.

She actually does NOT have any interest in Bossun at all. A guy came and wanted to marry her, so she came up with the excuse that she has a boyfriend, and names the first person she can think of (Bossun) The guy wants proof of their relationship, so she has to ask him out to a movie....and of course since she doesn't really like him it's just really awkward.

Just thought I'd clear that up lol

How could the people you speak of ruin a series?

Shaman King. <3

I really love those covers. I think Sket Dance's and One Piece's are the ones I like the most. I intend to read Sket once I catch up on a few other series. :D

Also with this latest chapter of Bokke-san I think it cemented my desire to see it live. Damn this really is going to be hard next cut. Unless a few other series meet their natural ends so nothing else gets sacrificed. >.<

Or Bleach drops off the face of jump.

How could the people you speak of ruin a series?
By being overly weeaboo with it like they are with Naruto and Bleach.

.... no, most of the fans have been and indeed still are narutards and bleach freaks who ran it into the ground. besides i've made clear my individual qualms about the series itself, so the annoying as hell fans (you being one of the obvious exceptions; you love the series but balance it out by not yammering on) stand as just an element that reminds me how much i dislike it.

which again still makes me surprised about how much i love bakuman

the fans or madhouse? cause one group of people are annoying, the other rape manga adaptations (glances at death note, claymore, majin tantei neuro nougami, ichigo 100%).

admittedly beck had good songs (shit animation a lotta the time though. pool scene anyone?) and Monster stands as a damn good anime (prefer the manga though, but that's preference) but seriously.... they RAPE WSJ MANGA, and the final product left behind is just a morbid remnant of what was once a classic series

I'm still pissed at how they savagely raped Kurozuka. The anime can be a series all on its own.

Anyway... how sad, Psyren is back in the bottom 5 :( ...

well if it's any condolence, if psyren and sket dance are following a trend this months volumes will sell well enough for it to not particularly matter

Noodle, I at least understand how DN is a love it or hate it manga. I mean seriously, each volume takes like five hours to read, because it's like reading a novel. If you don't like dialogue heavy entertainment, it's understandable. I also am a fan of Kevin Smith and Tarintino movies, showing how I like well written talking. XD

I love Death Note, too. Pity that stupid fans have latched onto it and made many others hate the series by association alone.

...Madhouse did a bad job? Granted, I only saw about ten episodes, but it was quite good. Claymore was also perfect up until the last third or so. Granted, the ending was sort of meh, but I do mean meh - there's worse crap out there like the fillers of WSJ series... and people say DGM's were good compared to, say, Naruto.... I'd take a mediocre ending over shitty fillers or a total mood change any day.

Still stunned that To Love-Ru made it out of the bottom 5. And here I was hoping it'd be cancelled soon... =(

As annoying as some fans may, be I would never let that deter me from enjoying (or trying out) a show...

'Nuff said.

And about Madhouse...The first 26 episodes were flawless. They did a good job except for a few points:

1. They sped up the second arc. This didn't make sense to me, because you would've thought they wanted to sell more DVDs...
2. They cut out the first Assault on Mello's fort, thus reducing Shidoh's role to a single episode....
3. They changed the perfect ending, because it was too harsh for the kiddies....(Yeah, fuck the kiddies. The anime ending pissed me off)
4. The....foot rub scene...*shudders* Why must they encourage those aforementioned morons?

tbh, I started watching the anime and I stopped somewhere around episode 30, wasn't that great. (well initially it was)

Anyways, I'm surprised as everyone else on TLR getting out of the bottom, looking back, the christmas chapter wasn't that great.
