Jump's series cater to Japanese fans first and foremost. Who cares about the US fans? They'll latch onto something eventually, whatever that may be, once Naruto is gone. But WSJ is for the Japanese, and THAT audience is what matters most when it comes to deciding on a new series.

After all, as people in this thread stated earlier (I believe), in Japan, they liked Dragonball. Not DBZ. It's not about DBZ there.

Randal hit it on the head regarding Psyren. :lmao

Jump may or may not have something to replace Bleach or Naruto currently but I think they can find something to at least take one of their spots after they end.

If Jump has a bunch of mid-tier series putting up Reborn & D.Gray-man numbers I don't think they will complain to much there. XD

Of course there's always Kishi and Kubo's next mangas... ugh.
I'm willing to bet my 500GB hard drive they will never have another hit. They will probably be lucky to scratch the mid-tier.

I think that's a bit shortsighted, you can't be too sure what the future will hold. Anyways, if kubo goes for a new manga i really doubt it'll be along the same lines of Bleach, maybe a gag manga lol...as for Kishi, I heard that he wanted to continue on a project he started in the past, which is a different flavor than Naruto.

Ironically, for a battle manga, I think Psyren's battles are one of the low points of the series. XD
Really? I always thought Iwashiro was awesome at illustrating abilities. Downside to the series would definitely be the characters for me, but it's still a good series at heart.
GARusashi, you're certaintly right. Illustrating abilities and fight scenes are amazing in psyren. I think Iwashiro is the better one, if not the best one, when it comes to illustrations in jump. Sorry to say but no one beats him imo...

I do not know what Randal means with low points. If he talks about the timespan of the fights, them being short, then I kinda agree with Randall. The fights can be a bit longer. But I like psyren's fighting scenes nonetheless

Well I'd like to add - It would be kinda cool if you guys would post these pretty good psyren related posts in the psyren mega convo thread. Lots of psyren fans don't know about this thread and I am sure they would like to give their opinion

@Noodles: Man, I'm way too slow for this thread. Inumaru dashi is used in a joke at the very end of Beelzebub ch 4, the bottom right text that talks about next week's chapter. It says, "Next time, the fight to make Baby Beru wear pants. It's 'Berumaru dashi!'"

Naruto is really the only one of the Big 3 whose end is clearly in sight. I don't think it will be too difficult to find another hit, but Jump has to stop bringing in stuff like Hoop Men and Beezle for that to happen.

You say that like Hoop Men and Beezlebub are bad series :XD [/jk]
But yeah, although I think they're ok series, they aren't hits. We'll just have to wait for a current series to completely surprise us and rise to the top (not very likely) or a dark horse newcomer in the future.

Then how come most of the images and stuff from Japan are for the Super Saiyans and such and not young Goku saving the world from Pilaf and Piccolo? They seem just as DBZ mad as the US even though they went through the whole saga in the actual order. There are many iconic factors about DB, but somehow I just get confused on what Japan prefers...while the US it's obvious.

The truth of the matter is it takes a bunch of factors, both known and unknown, that makes a manga a huge hit and a major factor in Jump. One thing people tend to forget about Bleach is that it was a middle-to-lower series for a good chunk of the first year or so and wasn't exactly a member of the "big 3" until the anime started. That meant that for the three years from the moment Bleach began in 2001 (pretty much running on "he's the guy who did Zombie Powder" at first) to the start of the anime in 2004, it was a middling series and wasn't the huge franchise that it has been for the last five years. Therefore, any series, from the middle to closer to the bottom, can become huge at any time with the right circumstances going their way and challenge to be one of the "big 3" everyone hypes about. (and likewise, who knows where Bleach would even be if Pierrot just finally decided to give up and end the anime)

Is it just me or does Psyren actually resemble DGM when it comes to fights? The fights aren't long, and there really aren't that many techniques. It also seems like the protagonists hog all the action screen time.

I'm still not really a fan, but I have noticed that Psyren does much better when they're not in the future world. I was liking the setup for the past arc with them trying to change the future until it suddenly dropped them back there again.

Though it was enough to get me actually reading regularly, at least.

DBZ is being re-done in HD and condensing the series to get rid of filler. DB is getting no such treatment. The 40th Anniversary of jump seemed to focus on DBZ a lot more then DB. DBGT started off similar to DB in style and it did horribly. It wasn't until it went back to the 'Z' style when it gained viewership. I think the Japanese prefer DBZ to DB, just probably not as much as the US does.

Now back to the ToC discussion...

My predictions:
The next set of cuts will include Neuro (natural end), Bokke, and Hoop Men.
HxH will come back along with 3 new series (detective, sports, and romance).
ES21 will end in 2 cuts after this one.
Naruto will be prolonged beyond its natural end point. 2012 for series end.

That's all for predictions. Now to wait and see if any of them come true. :P

1. Although I hate to agree with you on the Bokke part, I have to...
2. HxH- Alright! Detective- NO! Sports- NO!!! Romance- NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! XP
3. ES21- Let's hope it ends WAY before that...
4. Naruto- Let's all hope that is the case...

I wouldn't bet that. Knowing Kishimoto, he'll just rehash Naruto's story, characters and art into his mafia manga that he's been writing. And it's THE BEST MANGA HE'S EVER WROTE, so maybe it won't suck.

I don't think catering to US and catering to Japan is all that different. While One Piece may reign supreme in Japan, Naruto and Bleach are still just as popular. And when they both finish, where will it's fans look. I highly doubt they're reading Mago and loving it equally as much as they love Naruto.

I think our cuts will go Neuro->Eyeshield->Hoop Men (I think the editors have a soft spot for Kuroko.) -> Bokke -> one of the next editions to JUMP -> To Love Ru -> Psyren will end with about 120 chapters -> Bakuman will end with around 100 chapters -> Naruto

I'd love for a detective manga in JUMP. I couldn't get into Neuro for some reason, so something less over the top like Conan might be kind of cool.

Naruto is weird as Kishi has set things up (deliberately or no) so that he could end it very soon or continue it indefinitely. He could spend the rest of this year focusing on Sakura and Kakashi, as he said he would. Or he could just make the next arc the last one and end everything by Christmas. Given it's continued popularity the editors would have a collective stroke if it ends this year.

I dunno, it seems like the editors may actually be speeding it up. I mean, the 8 tails showing up already? With the next few chapters, the whole Kyuubi thing could be wrapped up for good.

I think Naruto could easily be finished by this time next year.

I highly doubt a DB scenario is going to happen with Naruto. Kishi already said that he isn't going to make it "as long as OP", and with the series pretty much down to one major villain (and some sub-bosses and lingering plotholes) after the fight currently occurring, it's only a matter of time. I'm not saying that it's ending in 2009, but I do say once 2010 comes around, Narutards better start looking into other stuff to pass their time with whatever is happening in their beloved ninja story.

Kishimoto actually said that? ROFL. It reminds me of the time Oda said that he wouldn't make One Piece as long as Kochikame. I've always wondered whether he meant "as long as Kochikame is now when I'm writing this" or "as long as Kochikame will ultimately be when it ends". Because he wrote that in the foreword to Kochikame volume 122, and it's looking more and more like One Piece will end up that long, though not to 160 volumes.

I've actually thought for a while now that Naruto would be about 500 chapters and that's it. I mean, with the Kyuubi plotline in the process of resolving itself, and Konoha destroyed, the way I see it, all that's needed is for this arc to turn into a grand battle against the Akatsuki, then have Sasuke come in the middle (he's an Akatsuki anyway) and have him and Naruto work out their issues, and then spend a few chapters on the aftermath and Naruto becoming Hokage. I think all of that could get done in about 50-60 chapters, Kishimoto has never really had pacing issues, so he could get it done in a year to a year and half.

I'd definitely say that Naruto will be the first of the Big 3 to end. One Piece is only about halfway there (I say about because they haven't technically crossed the Red Line yet, and there's a chance of Oda's pacing getting out of his control again, though I don't think he's going to let it happen again) and Kubo has no intentions of ending Bleach any time soon, not to mention his lack of the pacing skills required to end Bleach within the next 2 years. I can only imagine the effect on the ToC. I mean, Naruto doesn't sell as well as One Piece, but it's rather close, certainly more in that league than Bleach. It IS the 4th bestselling Jump series of all time (beaten by Dragon Ball, One Piece, and Kochikame, in that order). Losing it would be the first real blow to Jump's establishment since the Big 3 began to take form about 6 years ago. Though two years from now, Toriko may be primed to replace it. I doubt Bakuman will ever get that high, though. I still see it as a solid second tier cult series. I see almost everything as second tier at best if it isn't action/adventure, though. That's what traditionally sells best in Jump.

Do you have some sort of problem with Naruto or something?

hmm i think more to 550 then 500.even 600 but no more then that.
i can see naruto being for 2 more years before ending.kishi ( at the moment) seems to rush things quite a bit and the ones who were reading the last couple of chapters know what im talking about.
