Well, I'm pretty sure that line isn't referring to fear. Oddly enough, though, it sounds like he's talking about the reiatsu of Ichigo's own bankai affecting him, rather than Byakuya's... though I could be wrong >_< I guess that would fit with the "LOL YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE BANKAI" theme, though...

Thanks man, that makes sense. I also looked for the official dub and it said the same thing you told me lol. I guess my interpretation of that chapter was wrong but it couldn't be helped considering it wasn't all that clear about that. Again, thanks for your time. I wish I could have found a raw version for that chapter though.

The RAW is right here on MH, just not in chapter form. You have to look through the volume RAWs. (I believe 166 is in Volume 19.)

Wow, thanks, I did not notice the complete volumes were here.

Unfortunately I am compeled to yet again bother you. Could you translate what shirosaki says here:XD?
http://mangahelpers.com/downloads/read-online/591/145?t=1246567854
I know you already told me what shirosaki meant but having the actual lines translated is much easier to use as evidence.

Again, thanks man!

Thanks a million man :D

This is gonna come off as me being stupid but on page 198 you translated it that the combat abilities of a VL-menos is greater than a shinigami captain. The other translations I have read mention average shinigami captain. I don't know jack about Japanese or Kanji or anything :p so could you perhaps let me know why they would've translated it with 'average' because using that word itself spawns so many debates.

Well, it definitely doesn't say anything explicitly about averages. It just says their combat abilities are greater than the captain level.

Hey! When you have time, could you please translate the left and the right page? I know that it's maybe a bit much, but I can wait. Really.

Hey cnet,

First off I'd like to thank you for all the hard work you put into the excellent translations we get to read every week. As no doubt you're aware, it's much appreciated.

On to more pressing matters, I am having a debate with someone on another forum about One Piece and we could use a translator's help. One of the central issues to the debate is whether or not Zoro can be officially considered the Vice Captain of the SH. I think everyone who reads the manga will agree that among the current crew members he is closest to that role and fills in as VC when neccisary. At the same time it is my opinion that this doesn't officially make him VC anymore than Ussop fixing the ship made him a shipwright. Obviously filling in a leadership role is very different from taking care of patchwork and it's hard to compare Zoro to Ussop, but I think you get what I mean.

In order to prove that Zoro is officially the first mate I have been presented with a couple pieces of evidence. First off was a mistranslation of the quote where Urouge is impressed by Zoro on Shabondy...

http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/499/17/

As I'm sure you're aware "first-mate" was never used here. Zoro is referred to as the second or second-in-command, which isn't the same as VC or first mate imo. Obviously the VC is generally second-in-command, but I see no reason why someone can't be considered a "second", while never officially being made VC. Killer was not introduced as the Kidd pirates VC for example.

Next is this databook translation from the Zoro page of OP Yellow posted on NF. I have no way to determine just how accurate this translation is, and as such I can't quite trust it. I have been able to find the lettering to "fuku-sencho" in the raw so I know it's not the same error I found earlier. At the same time my guess is that in context it says something more like what I did earlier about Zoro filling in as VC when neccisary, rather than actually being the crew's VC. Here is the original translation as well as the raw with the part I'd like translated already outlined.

I'm interested in your opinion on this matter both as a translator and a fan, hopefully you have the time to help me out and give me your thoughts on this. If you are at all interested and want to see the original debate it can be found here... http://theanimelounge.com/f78/9132/

Wut too much text ~_______~

Hehe, sorry to bother again cnet but I'd like you to translate this page when you have a chance pls, it's in line with the earlier translation and for the same purpose.

Ichigo: What are you -
Ishida: Urahara has given me a rundown on the Arrancar. // Apparently the group that the Arrancar Grimmjow brought to attack us was a mixture of Gillian and Adjuchas. // When a Menos Grande becomes an Arrancar, it generally takes on a human form... / ...but apparently the only class guaranteed to take human shape is the Vasto Lorde. // In the other two classes... / ...most Menos do not take a fully human form even upon becoming Arrancar. // And interestingly... // The lower the Menos' intelligence... // ...the more Hollow-like a form it will take.

As I'm sure you're aware, that was my translation you're insulting =p

However, yes, I'll admit that line is ambiguous. 二番手 could mean any number of things, and could be interpreted as purely referring to his having the second-highest bounty in the crew. From the context, though (Zoro serving under Luffy), I'm inclined to think it's talking about, or at the very least implying, precedence within the crew.

Well, I wouldn't put too much stock in translations based on Chinese versions as a general rule XD Nothing is going to come through two translations with the exact same meaning as it started out with ><

Your image seems to be broken, but I found the page in question anyway. I'm assuming the line you wanted me to look at is the one which mentions 副船長. Incidentally, all the nitpicking that seems to be going on in your discussion about the distinction between "first mate" and "vice-captain" is just plain silly. "First Mate" is just what I (and I daresay others) have been using as a translation of 副船長, because it's the word that's most familiar in English for the second-in-command of a pirate ship. It sounds more natural and "pirate-y" than "Vice-Captain". That's all. I don't think the literal term "first mate" has ever appeared in One Piece, and nor do I expect it to. Oh, and arguing that "second in command" and "vice-captain/first mate" aren't the same thing really does seem like grasping at straws.

At any rate, as I'm sure you'll be pleased to hear, no, that line doesn't categorically say that Zoro is the first mate of the Straw Hats. It says "A reliable man to have around, who can be considered the First Mate figure of the crew." Basically calling him the first mate without actually calling him the first mate.

However, I'm still inclined to think, myself, that he is at the very least the de facto first mate of the crew. (And for the record, I neither want nor expect Jimbei to join, and even if he did, I'd be shocked if he was ever considered the first mate of the Straw Hats.)

Actually I wasn't aware at all. Had I known I would have been a little more tactful about calling it a mistrans... especially since I entirely understand why you decided to interpert it that way, and even agree that it does signify precedence within the crew. At the same time I don't think it makes him VC/First-Mate/Fuku-Sencho anymore than we can assume Killer is a VC for the Kidd pirates.

Thanks again for all the help. I figured you wouldn't be a fan of my theory, even before I knew you were the one who translated that line I mentioned earlier. I like your way of putting Zoro's position though... and I agree for the most part. He is indeed the de facto first mate. I just happen to think that leaves room for someone to take the position in an official capacity and split the responsibility with him. No one else even wants to even consider it as a possibility though.

My current timezone is Japan Standard Time, which is GMT+9. My sleeping patterns are variable, but I usually go to sleep between about 3 and 6 AM, depending on things like whether I have to go to lessons the following morning or not. I translate when I feel like it ~_~

However, early next month (on the 6th, to be precise) I'll be going back to England, so my timezone will be British Summer Time (GMT+1), and my sleeping patterns will probably change drastically as well.

Hey man! It seems you are quite busy but could you translate this if you get the time?
http://mangahelpers.com/downloads/read-online/3129/184
Just a general overview with important points would be fine. Someone suggested it had information regarding the relationship between rave and fairy tail so it could be relevant to the story.
