Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

Psyren is really high .. I do expect it a bit lower for the upcoming 2-3 chapters
No worries about psyren's position. This is totally what I expected the fights those three lame, meaningless underlings of Usui and the next 2 chapters were too slow paced and boring imo. I can totally understand it's low position

I'd rather believe psyren will get higher again when the true fights for Q are going to be rated

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

It seems that this wave of cuts/new series will only have 1 out (ToLoveRu) and 2 in's (Aimoto and Ashihara). So Akaboshi/Medaka should be fine until the next wave ;)

Though this also means Hunter won't be back in this batch :p

While it's a bit sad (for me personally) to see TLR ending, but then again, I can now catch up on certain things ;)

Oh well! It has been a fun 3+ years, and 2+ years translating the series :p

Wow so Kagijin took Wajima's place in the bottom...damn.

And now Medaka is below Akaboshi. Both could be going next cuts.

Not too interested in the new series...
Remember, only the bottom four was revealed, Hetappi isn't ranked or even a real series. There's still a chance Waji is low. Then again, Waji isn't ranked yet either. I'm hoping if all three are in the bottom five Kagijin and Akaboshi will both end rather then Medaka. Medaka is the only one of the three that could bring in an older audience. It's also a series, at some point, Jump readers are more likely to buy then vote for. By the time the next cuts happen Waji and Aimoto's new series could join Akaboshi and Kagijin if a third cut is needed.

Yeah I know and I hope Wajima is still in the bottom this time around...I like Kagijin more (even if I haven't read Wajima).

And if Medaka doesn't get good sales fast it could end up going with Akaboshi (or Wajima if some weird shit goes down). As it looks like Medaka and Akaboshi will be around past the release of their first volumes. Though I think that whatever goes, Wajima will go with it.

I'm not sure Medaka can save it. Medaka has a similar theme with Sket Dance (both about solving students' problems), and the reader will be making comparison with Sket Dance, I think Medaka is impossible to beat Sket Dance. Also, most of older audience are taken away by Ane Dokii, Medaka is no way to survive. In order for Medaka to live is it has to escape from bottom 5, no matter what. And I'm not sure Medaka can leave bottom 5, now.:(

Ok, neither of these series are all that appealing to me from what I can tell. I'll probably follow them for the first few chapters but they can be lambs for the slaughter ala Hoop Men for all I care.

As far as Medaka goes, volume sales is what it will have to rely on or be lucky like Psyren and Sket Dance were by always having something worse under it.

So, is there only 1 OUT on this round? Are Medaka and Akaboshi safe on this round?

According to the insider who mentioned ToLoveRu ending and the two new series starting (long before Ko-neta gets his info from the printing company), ToLoveRu is the only one ending this round.

It makes sense as well, that if Hunter is not coming back, WSJ would only need to free one slot for two new series, since Golden Future will be ending as well.

Why To Love-Ru is below Medaka? I thought Ko-neta showed that To Love-Ru isn't in bottom 5.

Nope, TLR is not in the bottom 5... at least not that I'm aware of ;)
RawParadise's info isn't first-handed, but rather a compliation of Himajin and Ko-neta's spoilers, plus a few educated guesses.

Medaka and Akaboshi are saved on the edge of the cliff. Is this mean that Medaka and Akaboshi are considered safe, or just saving it for next cancellation round? And, does the editors know the ranking of Medaka and Akaboshi few weeks ahead of us, or about same?

I mean they're the one gathering and tallying the incoming reader's feedback postcards... so sure, they would have the instant result as well as accumlative result ;)

The oneshot was somewhat......mediocre. Not bad, definitely nothing special. It seems like something that could get lost in the mix.

For further cuts, everything depends on when more new series, or HxH, are coming. They could wait till December for new series, pushing cuts back. With so many struggling series they may cancel two in October. Hard to say.

Medaka can't depend on volume sales. It ranks to low and volume 1 won't be coming until October or November. In my opinion it is in far less danger then Akaboshi and Kagijin. Those who read Bakuman remember the discussion about To Love Ru; it ranks low because young teens (the bulk of Jump readers) are embarrassed to vote for it. It looks pervy. Medaka, also featuring a lot of fanservice, probably has the same issues. While it may be in the bottom five, if Jump determines it is polling well with readers above 16 it will stay. That is a demographic Jump doesn't do well with. Kagijin and Akaboshi are just action series targeting middle school kids; Jump already has plenty and can always find more as current ones end.

@Finestela: Any more predictions? You called D. Gray Man moving and ToRa ending. Very impressed!

Remember that there is Ane Dokii. I think Ane Dokii is taking more older audience's votes than Medaka, plus it is getting another colour on chapter 9. On the other hand, Medaka didn't get another colour for more than 10 weeks. I think Medaka is in danger as Akaboshi and Kagijin.

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

One thing people have to remember about Waji: it doesn't take that many pages in Jump so it needs quite a few to get a volume even if it bombs. (remember Posidon High?) If anything, I think it will die around the time we get to the 2010 issues.

Besides, considering that with Golden Cup over, D.Gray moving and To-Love ending (sort of wished it at least got a CP for being a success), that pretty much means that all the new series, whether this batch (Ane, Kagijin) or the previous (Medaka, Akaboshi) get what's essentially a final chance to get themselves together. If something can take advantage, we'll see it then. (best bet is probably Ane due to Kawashita)

My feeling is that most of the new series will have till the end of November to audition. I think HxH will come back in October, replacing Akaboshi. Kagijin will end in issue 52, Waji in issue 1, and Hunter x Hunter will go on hiatus again in issue 2.

I like Kagijin, but if Kagijin dropped the last place and become a cushion for Medaka and Akaboshi, I don't mind about it. Also, Wajimania finally is getting its ranking, and I think Wajimania will most likely be a cushion for other series too, unless it stays in middle, like Poseidon.

I think Lilienthal will be replacing either Inumaru or Wajimania. And I'm not really sure how Aimoto's new series going to do on the ranking.

Also, is there any news about Hunter's return?

Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

No news about HxH's return, just an educated guess ;)

Inumaru is locked in. It will remain the second gag. Waji may remain high until it hits the right chapter count for cancellation, then plummet. That's what happened with Poseidon last winter. If Waji isn't placed by the editors, I think it will, it's first official ranking will be issue 41.

Another educated guess: Lilienthal will not be a 9 page series. It will be more like Yusha, a 20p comedy series. The one shot was longer then gag one shots normally are, 49p as opposed to 25 - 30.

Two things Medaka really isn't a heavy fanservice manga like To-love but more alings of Sket Dance/Yankee to megane type series but with some fanservice but not that much. 2nd I remember To-love doing better in rankings in early in it's lifespan it usually was hanging around in the mid tier rankings while Medaka on the other hand is tanking and is now is bottom place. It's more like people aren't voting for this series just because they don't like not because their "embarrassed".
