Re: Weekly Shounen Jump [2009] - Discussion & TOC Talk v.3

Kagijin is another Muddy/K.O. Sen/Chagecha/Asklepios: a series waiting to die. I feel sorry for it. Doesn't mean I bother reading anymore :)

Have to agree that Asklepios and Medaka's lives come down to tankobon sales. If either can move 30,000 copies or so next week they'll at least survive the next cut. Lilienthal needs to live, maybe Hokenshitsu will buffer some of the other new series. I'm not reading to much into Beelze and Sket being in the bottom five. They've been yo - yo'ing lately but the middle of TOC has been pretty volatile recently, nothing wrong with a series like that dropping for a week. Especially since most of what had been in the bottom five at the beginning of the year (ToRa, Eyeshield, Neuro) are gone.

Which chapter of Kagjin has been rated most recently. The series got unexpectedly better so I imagine it would maybe rise a spot or two like Akaboshi (though I don't think the Ryonzapaku arc has been rated yet).

By the way, I've like how Medaka's been going, although I'm waiting for it to prove itself different from Bakemonogatari and Ouroboros. To me all three of them are a little too similar, mostly the fact that they revolve around male high-school students and powerful, yet strange female students.

WOW I'm surprised that you say medaka is similar to bakemonogatari.

At least for me the two of them are completely diferent.

IMO Bakemonogatari is more mature and revolves around the main character's relationships while Medaka is about humans with superhuman capacities and is a lot superficial about relationships and life problems.

How many weeks were there between Psyren's announcement of a character poll and the results (Psyren has had a poll, right)? I'm just wanting to know when I can expect more Mago color pages :p.

I found information that posted in 2ch. Well, usually most of information from 2ch tends to be false, but first 8 or 9 information from "ジャンプ打ち切りサバイバルレース" based on true information and this one is included, so I'll upload it.

outはめだか・赤星・鍵・わじま
inは古味(学園ものらしい)・ねこわっぱ・ガラアクタ
Out is Medaka, Akaboshi, Kagijin, Wajimania
In is a series by Komi Naoshi (Looks like school manga), Neko Wappa, and Gara Akuta

You can find Neko Wappa in mangahelpers. And Gara Akuta is from Akamaru Jump in 2007. I only find one picture for Gara Akuta.

I don't remember Psyren having a poll, I might've missed the announcement, but I sure didn't miss any results and I haven't seen any yet.

---

I don't think we can count those out yet, I don't know about Wajimania. But I don't think WSJ is going to cut Medaka and Akaboshi before they see any salenumbers.

About Kagijin, I can see it getting cancelled, okay, we don't have a volume for that yes, but that was the same with Meister, Muddy and K.O. Sen and I actually don't see much potential in the manga.

I haven't heared anything about those other manga, so I dont take this information true just yet.

Aghh, I don't read it but I thought someone mentioned that it had a poll. My stupid mistake then. Allow me to rephrase the question, how long does it generally take for character poll results to appear?

In is a series by Komi Naoshi (Looks like school manga)
OH, I hope this a truthful post then. I've been waiting for Naoshi to return. My hopes have been raised (only slightly though), let's hope they're not dashed :p.

lol, seeing the state of those 4 series, I find it amusing that they just decided to crush them all in one fell swoop.

Kinda inclined not to believe that post about what's going out just yet especially considering there was a post form 2ch posted here not too long ago saying that the serialzation meeting wasn't till October 2.

Not that its hard to believe those four are going seeing as how they are the most likely candidates, but it still seems too early.

Psyren had one in chapter 55 and the result came out in 65. It usually take ten chapters or more. Reborn and D.Gray took more than ten chapters. I think if Mago is following this route, the result will come out in december together with the release of the drama cd

Seems to early for cancellations, especially that many at once. Especially with, as Drmke said, tankobon for two of them coming next week. And why four out but only three in? I'll wait for some sort of confirmation before I believe it.

I think the series that is doing really bad at ranking, the editors don't even see the result of tank sells. Akaboshi's ranking is pretty similar to Bokke-san, and Bokke-san got axed about the same day when first volume has released. And I think it was same for Amano's first work, Over Time. Akaboshi's ranking is really bad, it stayed in bottom 5 almost every ranking, and Medaka's ranking was also bad.

So Naoshi gets another chance, eh?

We are planning on doing the Neko Wappa one-shot, btw.

It's not that I think it won't happen. It's not that I think it will. I'm just skeptical. I've been hurt before. Until I see (end) next to one of those four series and (new) in the preview for the upcoming color/cover I'll remain happily agnostic. In the meantime I hope this won't cause panic and angst in the thread. :tem

I'm also skeptical on the rumor, too, because both Medaka and Akaboshi are one of my favorite mangas. I think they both have a chance to become survive because Akaboshi finally established itself and Medaka has high chance to high tank sells.

I think we are focusing too much on fate of Medaka and Akaboshi because these two series are very difficult series to preditct their future. I still have no idea what's going to happen to them.

Both series are indeed unpredictable at the moment, the tank sales will enlighten the future of both series more once we get a good look at them.

However, I'm not skeptical at all when it's about Kagijin, how I hate cancellations on a quick notice, if this keeps up, it's definitely out before the streets turn white.

Kagijin is definitely out next, no matter when next cut is.
