Nah, japan invariably sucks... Its not like they have benji price, tom misaki, oliver atom and steve hyuga on their teams (captain tsubasa reference BTW). Overall, asia football is no less than terrible... Japan does not have enough technique to be able to hold that over Cameroon... In turn, I'd bet Cameroon has the physical condition to outlast the Japanese easily.

That match was half/half, partly it was utterly boring but on the other hand it was entertaining in its own little way. I was good laughing while watching. Some scenes were just hilarous, they were frequently stumpling over each other

The game I have been looking forward to today is going to take place in a couple of hours. Italy vs. Paraguay. While I’m rooting for Italy because he is the defending champion and he is one of the strong teams in the cup, Paraguay did an amazing job in Copa America so it’s hard for me to decide which team I want to be the winner of the match...I really think a very interesting game awaits for us.

Paraguay might have done ok in that cup but I don't think they are all that a good team.... Among the mediocre teams in south america, I don't think they even make it to the top half. I guess they are not bad enough that they don't even have a chance of putting a good game though.... I do want to see italy massacre them....

Since I have a thing for the underdog and since I do support teams from Latin America (especially South America), I admit I was undecided before but after reading your comment (reading it made me realize that no matter from where I look at it, Paraguay is the underdog in this match) I’ve made up my mind, I’m going to support Paraguay. Italy is the strongest team without a doubt but…in soccer sometimes surprises can happen so I hope Paraguay doesn’t lose horribly against Italy and if they win, even better.

As I said before, the only joy of the initial face of the WC for me is seeing big teams winning by large margins against small teams-germany australia was just beautiful for me.... It is true surprises can arise in a WC every now and then.... Who'd thought just the last WC (of which I saw almost every game) a team like ecuador would win 3-0 and 2-0 against costa rica and poland... Even more, who'd thought they'd have the english fall to the ground and barfing out of sheer exhaustion. The english did win with a free kick although I don't think they would have pulled of a victory if they had not break the tie and the match would have continued to extra time.

They did even better than Argentina in the qualifiers.. This should be a great Match..!

In the SA qualifiers, if I remember correctly, Paraguay was tied in second place with Chile with 33 points. It was first Brazil, then Chile, then Paraguay, then Argentina (with 28 points).

Even if Italy is the strongest team, I still think Paraguay will be a worthy opponent of the defending champions.

I guess doing better than argentina is good considering maradona's tactical genius.... Oh, wait....I don't think paraguay is significantly different from the average in south america in general... At least IMO there is not a significant difference between colombia, uruguay, chile, ecuador, paraguay and maybe venezuela.....

Believe me, they are a hard team. They are way better than Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, etc, etc.. Am sure that you saw Francia-Uruguay, that was a boring match IMO.

In South America, Paraguay's style is very similar to Italy. They are a defensive team that use fast counterattacks

Well, I guess paraguay is usually the one that follows brasil and argentina... Although, if we were to put them in tiers, I would not place them along with brasil and argentina (who under normal circumstances are easily very realistic candidates to win the WC), I don't think paraguay has a realistic shot at winning the cup, hence I usually think of them of being just marginally better than the mediocre teams in SA.

I'm just saying that this will be a very interesting game, and will not be like the game of Germany vs Australia.

Fail, SA qualifiers are just called SA qualifiers. Copa America would be the equivalent of the Eurocup.

Paraguay is not weak, they're like Italy. Their football is ugly as shit but they get results. Like what they're getting right now.

Wigan has done a great transfer. I know the scorer of Paraguay. He's the defender who played three years for my team. I don't agree that they called him a man-on-man defender, he's the defender that plays a lot

Thank you for correcting that and for fixing my terrible mistake and huge misunderstanding. Either way, both in the Copa America and in the SA qualifiers Paraguay did play well and the results they got are proof of that.

So the first time has ended and Paraguay is winning…the next half of the game will be even more aggressive...I wonder what team will the next one to score a goal...

I’m happy that Paraguay didn’t lose horribly against Italy, played well and showed that they are actually a team that shouldn’t be underestimated. I was sad that Villar’s mistake cost his team the opportunity of actually winning the game. But good Paraguay, you did well, at least IMHO.

And on a happier note and since this is the World Cup thread….

It didn't surprise me...

1. Pirlo is injured and imo he is a key player
2. In Brussels Italy was nothing in a friendly match
3. In Switzerland Italy was close to nothing in a friendly match

furthermore Paraguay did quite good in the South-American preliminaries. A lot of people are overestimating Italy. I think they have a chance to get in the second round but they'll definitely won't make it further
