Surprised by Medaka Box, and it's a given that now I'm enjoying Bleach again it'd drop in the rankings.

But of course I'm not paying any attention to anything going on here, because Sket Dance is doing GREAT and Magico is doing... well enough. and really, that's all I need from jump.

Are you sure? If I recall correctly, a serie is not ranked only when it's placed separately in the ToC page. Have you seen that page already?

Medaka Box's last 3 weeks is 666, Medaka the Devil!

Looks like the showdown of Medaka vs Kumagawa as well as the aftermath was to the liking of Jump readers. Atm Kumagawa's one of the most entertaining characters in Jump period

Whst's the last 3 chapters that got rated for Medaka anyway? I'm sure the final Medaka vs Kumagawa chapter is one of them.. also is next weeks Beezlebub character poll results the first one done for that manga? I'm guessing Medaka's 2nd character poll results will have the anime announcement in it as well..

I think it's talking about the Anime season 2.... at least, that's what the little note at the end of last chapter said about the special treatment.

I think it might be new saga = new arc. The previous chapter said the next issue (this one) would be the end of the Edo arc, so that means the start of a new one too. Though I'd need to look at the original Japanese to see whether the TOC provider meant "new saga" as in "new arc" or "new season" (for the anime).

So Bleach is in the bottom 5, yes the first time that's happened but its still in 10th. It's been in 10th before, what's the big deal.

Beelzebub's is 2nd, yay!

Well, Naruto and One Piece are placed separately in this site and yet are ranked.
And getting more pages without color page it's a special treatment too, and in those cases the serie is ranked.

So it seems he's not sure at all about Sengoku at all. He just says "Looks like it's ending soon", which is not a confirmation either way.

Nah seriously, I've never been one to care much about Bleach rankings - I like the series but I feel it's gotten plenty enough popularity as it is. But Bottom 5 is still a blow... Never expected that one. It's not like it's in danger or anything, but if it becomes a trend Bleach might become some new kind of Kochi-Kame without a fanbase. Not sure I'd like that.

You really shouldn't say that about KochiKame. It does have noteriety...well in Japan and it really can't be compared to anything else in the magazine since it's essentially from another age where series like this were more fruitful. I sort of wish I could get back to TLing the series (at least the stories from the 70s) so I could boost up more interest in Ryotsu but I really think the series does deserve a bit more respect.

As for the ranks...well I'm just happy Bleach is finally getting what it deserves after all this time. I think this should be a lesson for Kubo...but we'll see. Though I like Beezle in 2nd and some of othe other respectable ranks.

And...Kano's back? Already? I still need to read Mx0 but I hope it's 3rd time a charm for him.

Gintama's riding high, unlike its translator. Where IS the Gintama translator anyway? :-P Nice to see that both the slice-of-life gag series are doing well. Those are my two favorite types of manga//anime, so I'm enjoying their rise to the top. I also can't wait to see what Sket's post anime tank sales will size up to be, along with wondering if the anime will be a long runner, or if it will end after a year? They have quite a bit of material to work with after all....

I need to read Ikkyu and Magico, and find that Gintama translator and give them a piece of my mind. Anyone know where to look? This travesty can't continue, especially with Viz giving up on the series. :-P

Stupid question, but if you're someone with very little time but an interest in Medaka, what would you reccomend reading to get a general gist of the story? Like an arc that stands out among the others? A chapter number would be nice....after all with Gainax jumping into jump with this series, there HAS to be something there.

why don't you read the whole manga or wait for the anime? don't know for sure but something around chapter 20 could be the main thing for this series. the beginning were like sket dance, but about that chapter count it should be its typical shounen battle genre.

Yeah, I dunno. The Gintama translator just went missing one day. All we found was a note saying "Don't look for me" and we couldn't tell what it was we weren't supposed to be looking for. So we hired somebody to go figure who it was we weren't supposed to find, and how best to act in order to not find it ourselves. But then we ran into the problem "What if it's this person we're hiring that we weren't supposed to find?" So we had to hire someone else to find someone to figure out who it was we weren't supposed to find. But just in case THAT was the person we weren't supposed to find we had to hire someone else and it turned into a recursive nightmare.

Regardless, Bleach not doing so good. Here's my opinion on it, essentially Kubo Tite has made an entirely new manga, just using like 3 of his old characters. Basically nothing is familiar, and there's little to no connection to the rest of the story. If you consider the Fullbringers arc its own manga, just replace Ichigo with "new main character", and forget about it being Bleach, it's probably the sort of manga that would get canceled or else ranked pretty low.
If the series doesn't pick up then the tankoubon sales will go down even more. I don't see it getting canceled unless it really tanks though. Simply because even if it's essentially a different manga, just because it's called "Bleach" is enough to get people to buy it because it has a fanbase. It's a well known manga with a long running anime, several movies and all that other stuff. It's got enough of an attachment by enough people to never completely fail even if objectively it's not very good. Just... keep giving Ichigo new transformations.

The fact that Kuroko is above Bleach is just hilarious.

As for the TOC otherwise, like half the series are unraked so it's kinda weird. But its good to see Beelzebub doing well. And maybe Mago will do better with this arc. Jump's likely to promote it with the new anime starting.

It's too early to say if Hanasanai Ikkyuu is doing well though. Remember, Dois Sol was pretty high in the TOC when it was unraked. So have several other series that stopped doing well as soon as they were ranked.

One Piece in first is not a shock, so I won't comment anymore on that.

Beelzebub in second is awesome! It really has deserved it lately.

Naruto in third is not a shock either, but it doesn't really deserve it.

Bakuman still in the top 5 is good, and Magico on seventh place is passable. Hope Magico will at least keep it's place up there.

Bleach in the bottom 5 is awesome! Too bad it's in a weak with only 13 ranked series.

Overall: GREAT TOC!

See, the problem is you took that note for it's litteral meaning. The Gintama TLer was only trying to save you from Darth vader, because they knew once you started looking, it would only be a matter of time till you would uncover the deep dark secret. In truth the TLer wants you to look for them, those memories of the past two years couldn't have been a lie right? That friendship couldn't have been built upon a foundation of falsehoods and greed could it? No. No it wasn't. But in order to save you all, the TLer had to abandon all shreds of humanity. Including telling close ones that in fact they should not look.

As for Bleach, I never really thought of it that way...but it's true. It's like a textbook example of how not to do a time skip. It's like Kubo realized how much things got screwed over with the story (like the oodles of forgotten characters and unused plots), and decied to use a time skip to reset, rather than enhance. I only really read the series for the lulz now, so meh.

Kano's back? That's... pretty great news actually. Not quite what I wanted (c'mon, Komi Naoshi, we all want him to be serialised again, right?), but we're talking a solid creator with two quite popular series under his belt. that's great.

Also I remember Foo Fighter Fuji's art as being pretty good, so I'm excited for that artist to get a series.

Medaka is still in 6th place despite One Piece and Naruto being ranked this week. No more excuses now!!! Its recent rankings are legit.

Also Bleach finally crashes into the bottom 5! I never thought I would see the day. What a glorious sight to behold. This is definitely one to remember because a series that is supposedly part of a "Big 3" has no business being down there ever unless it screwed up massively.

Hokenshitsu finally ended. I feel bad partly because it was like Medaka's running mate for so long but it survived way longer than anyone was expecting it to. Almost two years, that is something for the mangaka to build on in the next series.

Sket Dance and Bakuman are still hanging out in the top 5 so I'm happy about that.

This is one of the best weeks ever rankings wise.

AND Kanou's back. I think I might actually be happy with Jump again.

I couldn't post for a while because I was trying to wipe the foolish grin off my face...BEELZEBUB AT #2! A colour page next week is great, too! It's a beautiful feeling when your favourite Jump manga is near the top spot.

GG, Medaka and Magico. Proud of these two for sure.

I'll just leave Bleach to wallow in self-pity...

Bleach is in the bottom five.
Medaka hit 6th three weeks in a row (which is probably the editor's way of telling us that this is due to Nishio's deal with the devil)
And Kano is coming back. I wonder if this is just an elaborate prank to get him canceled at chapter 99 again.

Building on what I said before, whenever Bleach finally does start getting back to being more like the manga it was before, like with the familiar characters and such, it might get more accepted. Course, often Bleach doesn't develop characters as much as it has small episodic battles. So we'll see what direction it goes in. Don't assume it's gonna "stay the same", is what I'm saying. Right now it's alienated its fanbase on top of not being that interesting. But if that changes it could get better.

I'll be interested in Kano's new series. I never read Mx0 but a lot of people said they liked it. If he's taken 3(?) years to find a new series, maybe it'll be really good.

Also, let's hope this manga with "star" in its name does better than the last one (Meister/My Star). The last two if you count Dois Sol as a star.

Bleach may looks like it is in the bottom 5 but there are a lot of unranked series, so yeah... it is not exactly low. I don't take it too seriously (as a reader).
If i were Kubo though, i have to take this as an indication to work harder and smarter.

Don't really care for Kano, he usually has interesting ideas but I've never been a fan of how he executes them.

I liked Fuji though, so I'm excited for whatever Miyokawa's bringing.
