This could just have been a translation note[TN] by the translator himself, as Oda somehwere mentioned that only one person will wear a eye-patch and that got to be a "real" pirate.^^ Could have been an interview, a SBS or an artbook, don't know anymore, but I'm pretty sure of that.

It doesn’t really matter if you know or don’t know the thing called the One Para Column, but this appears to be last of behind the scenes talk. The last story to tell is more of a behind the scenes policy, rather than a behind the scenes story. So what is a "pirate"? If you ask someone with artistic talents to draw a pirate, you will normally get a sketch that looks like this...

Indeed, a pirate. Very easy to understand, but if you take off the eye patch, there's a big difference to one with, and one without (the one without looks like a normal middle-aged man). So then, that means, eye patch = pirate. It’s just like, afro = champion type thing... so have you noticed yet? Well, you probably haven’t. That in One Piece, there has not been one single pirate with an eye patch! ... yes i know, who cares right? But this is my secret "behind the scenes policy". It’s not like every pirate has an eye patch!!! ... right? You can totally draw pirates without an eye patch!!!!

And with that thought in mind it all began; the story of a normal looking boy's pirate story.

I thought, if there's an image in everyone's head about what a pirate is, then I thought I would write/draw about the process of the boy getting there. But its not like I dislike eye patches, so in the final scenes of One Piece, there is one pirate who appears with an eye patch

I'm itching to draw this character.

Volume 63 had 12 chapters, so 64 should have 11 if it's only 8 pages less

you are right,I didn't know volume 63 had 12 chapters.I don't understand oda either,sometimes the volumes have got 9 chapters sometimes 11 or 12. I hope kishimoto will make his volumes of naruto with more chapter not just 10.luckily volume 58 should have 13 chapters!

Because most mangaka plan in volumes with a closed topic or climax per volume, Oda just was never able to do that and it would be boring/predictable to have the exact same number of chapters for a certain thing to happen.

Sanji is epic! I like Jinbe's new clothes, the colors to them I mean. Franky is a beast! It seems showing off the new abilities in this cover? Awesome choice rarely did anyone think the SH would appear together in this one. Loved it!

perhaps the fact jinbe is there really means he will join the sh. I hope weakhoshi won't enjoy them,although rufy might become her guide. they need a fishman for situation as this,and jimbe would be perfect!

What kind of captain even is the front line? He is the upper center.

Cool cover. Nice to have a team picture once in a while. But yeah. I'm not a fan of Jinbei joining, but that strongly hints toward that direction.
