Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

Maybe Jump readers are just sick of all these new series that are being thrown at them so they're just skipping over them in the mag so thus not voting for them, and Jump itself seems to be pumping out the new series until it can find an instant hit, lol when will this madness end?! xD
I think it's more likely that there are too many popular series in WSJ. I mean, look at Nurarihyon. Its performance is terrible because there are too many popular new series and not enough unpopular new series to give it a buffer. Jump is in a difficult situation, because cutting Nura would be a great loss, but they can't justify cutting any of the new series either.

So right now they're pimping Nura with color pages. They tend to throw color pages at series that are performing poorly because they think that it will somehow fix things. ST&RS will probably be their sacrificial lamb to save Nura until some new series pop up. But we'll be in trouble again if the new series are actually good.

Eh at least in a couple of years this will be fixed for them. Naruto is definitely going to end within 100 chapters IMO, and Bleach is likely on it's last leg as well. As for now who knows. By the looks of it even Beelzebub or Medaka Box could face a termination before that time arrives...

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

Hello! :amuse

I have just a couple questions about 2ch. How did this site become so important for indicating a series popularity? Which is more important to Shonen Jump a series rankings in their magazine or popularity on 2ch?

I simply wanted to know more about 2ch and Shonen Jump.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

It's probably a ritual in Shonen Jump to curse 2ch every morning... This is the source of all the spoilers and most of the members probably don't buy the magazine. Also it was said that the 2ch community is not really representative of the Jump reader so it would not make sense for Shonen Jump to follow their rankings.

I'm curious about Pakki, the first comments suggested it would be an immediate bottom dweller but it seems to have done better since. Next issue is its first ranking, am I right ?

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

Besides naruto and medaka near their last chapters, i wouldn't be suprised if bakuman, gintama, sket dance, katekayo will end in the next 2 years.

it's not like that the sket dance author can't do a time skip to university or lengthen it with after school expierences like cram school for college, but they are currently in their last year.
ashirogi has a ultra popular manga in jump, what else can happen? there will be conflict of course, but besides getting a anime and why is it called bakuman and maybe a little new villain arc like with nanamie, is new stuff that can happen and be interesting very small, besides it isn't their style to write 5+ year mangas.
not sure about gintama, but someone said that it's near its ending.
katekayo seems for me like that we are reading its last arc currently. over the top battles with all previous enemys fighting to clear the arcableno curse, besides that he is the mafia boss now and don't struggle with the title anymore.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

My guesses about when mangas in WSJ will end:
- Bakuman: 1,5 years (finish the current arc, then end it all with a medium long arc).
- Reborn: 2 years (finish the current arc, then a very short one to end it all).
- Naruto: 2 years (finish the current arc, then a short one to end it all).
- Bleach: 4 years (one long arc, then a very short one to end it all).

If I'm guessing right, WSJ will loose three pretty big series in just 2 years. Therefor they'll have to keep some of the new series going, even though they can't compete in the top right now.

The 2ch rankings do not indicate the main magazine rankings in any way, shape or form and hold no meaning to Shueisha. Most of the 2ch voters do buy Jump every week, but few actually send in the questionnaires.

As we are an online community that disscusses Jump and the Toc every week, I thought it would be fitting to post the rankings to get some sort of view how the elder Japanese males who actually buy the magazine view the current series.

I'm curious about Pakki, the first comments suggested it would be an immediate bottom dweller but it seems to have done better since. Next issue is its first ranking, am I right ?
I've dropped the series at chapter 4 but apparently it got a bit better at chapter 5 and 6.
Pakki actually began ranking this issue, but due to having a Center Colour it is unknown where it actually would have been. Next week will reflect on how chapter 2 polled.

Tite Kubo's Twitter

今晩ジャンプの新年会で、そこに描いたカラーを持ってって担当に渡さなきゃいけないんだけど、カラー仕事
I was supposed to hand over my colour page(s) I drew to my editor tonight at the new year's party,
場に忘れてきた。取りに行くのめんどくさいなぁ。
but I left the colour page(s) at my workplace. It's a friggin pain to go back and get them.

Bleach will have Lead CP or a Center Colour on Issue #11

We also get to see the arcobalenos powers, and after we've seen Reborn's power, it should end :D

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

Quite a few series feel like they're ending. I hope they all end in a similar time frame, because it will be amazing for the magazine to open up a bit. 2004 was Jump's renaissance because so many series ended in 2003/2004. Steel Ball Run, Death Note, Gintama, D.Gray-man, Reborn!, and Muhyo/Roji all began in 2004. Compare that to 2010, where every new series was eventually canceled.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

Kubo mentioned (in an interview) that he's planning to make Bleach run for 10 more years. Idk if srs or trolling.
Kishimoto mentioned (in Jump Festa) that this is Naruto's last arc. The series might end in 1-3 years.

as for series that might end...

Medaka Box... well Anshinin did mention ending the it before the anime starts, idk if it will manage to do it at this rate. Hopefully it will.
Katekyo Hitman Reborn!... well i think it won't end any time soon. Personally I think Amano Akira's stretching the inevitable, but she's been doing that for 300 chapters already sooooo...
Bakuman... i think it will end either this year or in the next. Reversi's only at volume 1, you need around 2 years of material to get enough material for an anime. Otherwise it will end up as a shitty adaptation like in Ao no Exorcist (which ended up making the anime ending up). There's also Miho's upcoming rival to consider.
Nurarihyon no Mago... well aside from the current arc, there's still Gokadoin and Nue, so that's at least 3 arcs. Who knows if Shiibashi will manage to squish in something new. Judging from Shiibashi's usual pacing, I don't think it will end this year though.

I don't think it's ideal for several series to end at the same time. Readership will drop for sure if that happens. It will be better if Jump finds successors for these series first.

In another, earlier interview he said that there will be a short arc and than a big final arc. Well, a short just finished so it is likely that the new info was trolling (tough I think that he said that he could go on for 10 more years, not that he would... but it was quite some time since I read that one) while the old one was honest.

After looking at a preview page, I think Doppeler going to be the Enigma-type of manga.

A Oneshot from the next WSJ, two others will follow, you could have found that out by turning back one single page...

He has not said who will publish, what magazine, and when it will start.
I feel like Murata's new series will be serialized in Young Jump.

It actually looks like from the article to be a completely different series. I guess he's gonna do two?
