The slump has been going on for a long time now, but seeing Nura dead last is just depressing. :( I'm surprised that Magico is doing relatively well despite its low period a month or two after its serialization.

SKET in the top 5. Woot! (^_^)v

Magico's not too bad IMO. I don't even read Mago, but if it keeps up like this its days are numbered. The same could be said for ST&RS.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

Jump Issue #09 TOC

Jump Issue #10 Preview

Jump Issue #10 Information
Lead CP: Bakuman
Center Colour: Kochikame, HunterxHunter, Retsu!! Date-Senpai (Oneshot, 27pages)
Extra Pages: Kurogane (23pages)
Bleach Repeat&Reboot - End
Bleach - Absent

- Bakuman is getting a Lead CP as a thanks for the popularity

- HunterxHunter is getting a center colour for the Election & Alluka Arc Climax. There will also be some new information on the HunterxHunter anime

- The oneshot is of the gag genre

- Kurogane is getting extra pages because volume 2 is going onsale

- Kochikame is getting a center colour because the Kochikame movie is being released on DVD

- Sket Dance will be releasing a new volume every month for the next 3 months as a memorial campaign for selling over 10,000,000 copies

- It was announced in this Issue that Nurarihyon no Mago has sold over 10,000,000 copies, which is odd because they announced the same thing in Issue #41 last year. A mistake maybe?

- After Issue #10 the oneshots will stop and in Issue #11 Bleach will come back from hiatus with the beginning of a new Arc

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Many of the authors talked about the new years party in the author comment section this week

- The author of Naruto won an IPAD
- The author of Beelzebub received a Playstation Vita
- The author's of Magico, Mago, ST&RS, Pakki and Kurogane talked to alot of people
- The author of Sket Dance and Medaka Box said the magician was awesome!

It seems that the author's of One Piece, Hunter, Reborn!, Kochikame, Gintama, Toriko and Harisugawa did not go to the new years party or just did not comment on it.

The author of Nisekoi was unable to attent the new years party because he caught the flu. Komi was really looking foward to it

Kubo Tite also mentioned on his twitter that he played Rock-paper-scissors - with the author of Pakki

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bleach will finally be back in Issue #11 with a new Arc (and most likely a Lead CP). Nisekoi will also probably be getting a center colour in Issue #11 due to the good rankings and also because it is Valentines. Cancellations should also start on Issue #11

Best cover of the year, maybe of the last four, and I do not even read Toriko. Referencing Roy Lichtenstein is always win.
Yep, I posted it into the toriko thread too

Some people will definitely get the pop art reference towards Roy Lichtenstein

Very great cover, definitely one of the better that has been served recently

Seeing very creative color pages/covers has become a bit of a rarity, particularly those that reference "high" art. This Toriko cover truly was a very interesting composition. Kishimoto will reference traditional Japanese painting and wood blocks from time to time, though I wish he would paint them with water color. Obata consistently shows a strong grasp of art history as well, Bakuman color pages are always creative.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

Cancellations should also start on Issue #11
I'm pretty interested in what they will cut. ST&RS, Harisugawa, and Nura are the only feasible options. NuraMago has actually been ranking the worst out of the three, but it has sales to back it up. ST&RS has been closely trailing Nura, and I'd say that there's a 100% chance that it's getting cut. Harisugawa is a curious one. It's been low, but has it been low enough to deserve getting cut? Usually only bottom dwellers get cut, and Harisugawa has generally stayed away from rock bottom.

I also think Harisugawa is interesting. By looking at this week's chapter, I think Kanou is wrapping up the story; so, it is not weird if it ended around Issue 11. Plus, I'm not sure Harisugawa is actually axed; I think it may has natural ending. Kanou's two previous works, Pretty Face and Mx0, are not in fact axed; they are naturally ended because Kanou said he hit the limit. So, I think Kanou isn't type of manga who do long series. So, possibly, he was intended to serialize this one in short.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

When will people stop making cancellation predictions based on plot points? Time and time again people have tried and failed to predict when series will end, or that low ranking series will continue, based on some random event from the most recent chapter. Whether Psyren, Double Arts, Akaboshi, or something else everyone who ever made a cancellation prediction based on the plot has been wrong. Since when has Jump ever cared about a rush ending? And since when have they ever cared about stretching a series out? If plot progression had anything to do with when a series ends then Shaman King would not have needed a new ending for the kanzenban editions and Dragonball would have concluded with the defeat of Frieza. But Shaman King was canceled and the ending was rushed while Toriyama was "convinced" to continue despite wishing to end the series five years before it ever did. There really is no reason to believe that Harisugawa is going to end based on the last chapter. In the context of romance manga nothing happened that signified the climax of the series, all that Harisigawa (the character) needs to say is that he does not know how he feels, that he needs more time, and the series can go on for another five years. And that is that. The series most certainly has not hit it's climax, nor is it in line for cancellation. While it has not charted particularly well it has not done any worse than Medaka or Sket Dance's early rankings. And volume 1 sales were equal to, or higher, than volume 1 of Sket or Medaka. I see no reason to predict that Harisugawa will end, the plot does not dictate it at all and sales for volume 1 have been good at least by the standards of a new series.

I assume that anyone who thinks that St&rs, Harisugawa, and Mago are the only feasible cancellations has not been following this thread until very recently. Everyone knows that any series that has spend a significant amount of time in the bottom 10 without selling at least 200,000-300,000 copies of every volume is in mortal, immediate danger. It is one thing when manga like Beelzebub, Kuroko, Medaka, or Mago fall to the bottom. All sell at least 200,000 copies of every volume, without fail. And all have had anime recently, or have high profile anime coming this April. No, there are other feasible cancellations. Any series left that has had at least three volumes released yet failed to make the Oricon 30 since volume 1 debuted, and has failed to rank in the top 10 in over six months, is in immediate danger. It should be a forgone conclusion at this point, now that there are no new series (15 or fewer chapters) in danger of cancellation.

Can we all agree to stop predicting that Mago will move? We can not base it's future on the TOC, it's ratings have been low for the better part of three years. We can predict based on sales, among the highest in the magazine. We do not have enough information to predict a move, doing so would be no different than palm reading or the horoscope. It may move at some point but to predict that it will be doing so soon is just silly and not particularly enlightened.

Aren't you a first person who suggested Mago might move to SQ?

If it is not, then I'm sorry for making mistake?

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

Judging by author's comment in Harisugawa Volume 1 as well as the fact that the story seems to be wrapping itself, that one will most probably end during the "Cancellation Period".

ST&RS is most probably in danger tough. Its rank was bad and its sales weren't that shiny.

Nura... is still a big headache when predicting is concerned ^_^;

Not sure any other series is doing bad enough to warrant a cancellation. The following events will be interesting.

Well, to be fair, the second to alst chapter of Enigma said "Are you ready for the end?" "Yes, let's go" kind of stuff on the last page. It's possible that Harisugawa is ending basing on the end of the last chapter (I skimmed through it, I don't read the series really.) buuuut it could just be a twist kind of a thing. People though HXH was going to end when Gon looked like he would lose his Nen and stuff like that despite there being a million still-open plot points and such.

Interesting. Where did Kanou say that about Mx0? I've never read it myself, but everyone's always said it was canceled, and from what I've heard about the ending, the claim sounded accurate.

Could go either way, but if Kano's ending it now I can definitely respect him for realizing it can't really going anywhere and pulling the plug.

He said it in volume 3 of Snow in the Dark (collection of one shots). Kanou said he hits the limit on his capacity; he calls himself as a slow writer.

There's nothing wrong with short series. Death Note was only 12 volumes and it was arguably one of the best Jump manga of all time. Imagine if TO/TO stretched it even further than the Near arc? It would probably still be popular, but the plot would be garbage. Sort of like what happened to Enigma when it continued after the school arc.

Yeah, it is nothing wrong with short series. But, the short series end within 4~5 volumes are too short for short series; I was thininking of end at around volume 10.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

Personally, even though I've barely read any of Mx0, I highly doubt he went to his editor and just out of the blue wanted to end it. It was ranking terribly for awhile before it got canned and while he may have hit a block where he couldn't write good plots anymore, that is probably what got him canceled and got the low rankings. Jump doesn't just let authors end when they feel like it. They sign contracts and keep writing at the very least till those contracts are up. Remember, it's a major business, they value money way more than artistic integrity.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

in my opinion it seems like he had a "good" idea, got published and didn't know what to writer after 20 chaptersso i begged to let it end somehow naturally,to fill it up till the cancelation rounds. (something like that) BUT i thought that the mangaka discussed the series with his editor beforehand,in which direction he wants to go and so on. talking about it would open his eyes, that the plot was limited due protagonist caged in a parallel world, so somehow i'm disappointed in this work. one should think that mangaka who try to be serialized in jump and get the chance thought more about their work and world creation beforehand. it's like ending naruto, because kishi forgot to think of creation akatsuki and is left without a new villian after orochimaru was defeated...
