It's not a data book, it's soushuuhen, a small sample of chapters for people to catch up with the story.

I kinda agree with cross, I don't know what is this rom/com festival in jump recently.
Now that Nisekoi seems to be successful, they could move to something else.

Chapter 1 of Haikyu!! is good, but I feel like it is a Magazine-style sport series.

Edited Manga isn´t out right ?

Anyway, why does it feel like a magazine-style sport series ?

I read raw; I don't really read Edited Manga/translation.

I feel like Magazine-style sport series because it focuses on more realistic; Jump-type of sport series are tend to be over-exaggerated.

Yes, Jump-Sport-Series are really over-exaggerated.......like SSJ-Style of Ryoma in "Prince of Tennis" *hust*

Anyway, realistic sport-series alá "Baby Steps" ( from Weekly Shonen Magazine ) are very welcome. But I think it´s just the first chapter, which is more realistic and it will be over-exaggerated like "PoT" does^^

Yeah, it may turn to be over-exaggerated. But, I did see other sport series, like Kuroko and Kurogane, become over-exaggerated even like first chapter; but, I don't see this series becoming over-exaggerated.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

Does not look like a Shounen Magazine sports to me, not even a little. I've never seen that style of art in ShoMag, certainly not in any of the sports manga. Shounen Magazine sports manga typically have extremely talented but raw protagonists. The story usually begin with freshman training camp, as the team is slowly form, bond, and the protaganist works to fix the flaws in their game. The story slowly builds towards competition, the team improves in game play, making their name in a preliminary game, but rarely shocking the powers. Gradually they improve and begin to contend. The story is generally paced slowly and at least semi-realistically. While it may be assuming to much there is no reason to believe Haikyu!! will follow this template. Odds are it is a typical Jump sports manga about scrappy underdogs nobody gave a chance, light on talent, with one secret weapon that makes them extremely difficult to stop. They will shock the world in their first match, either hanging tough against incredible odds or defeating a truly imposing opponent. The rest of the manga will follow the team that no one believed in making believers out of all and sundry. While I have not seen a summary yet I am more willing to believe that Haikyu!! will at least partially follow the same formula as Eyeshield 21, rather than Diamond Ace or Area no Kishi. Those are the ShoMag style sports manga, and unless Haikyu!! follows that archetype in some way they are most definitely not "Shounen Magazine" style.

Well, I'm not talking on the artwork being Magazine-type sport series; I'm more focus on the story.

Also, I think Haikyu!! may follow the Magazine-style sport series' developments. But who knows, it does change to fit with Jump.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

I have to comment on this, but it was a bit evident during the end of last year that One Piece is no more the champion of the ToC, mostly, compared to the last 5 or so years even more it owned, to use the term, all the rest a lot more than it has done this year. The top spot variates a lot more, so after a long time I am not really sure if at the end of the year One Piece will have the most first spots. But I think the blame is on the arc that just recently concluded. It might just get back on track but the others are gearing up for strong competition.

Really that was the contrary to me. Given the comments on this forum, I expected One Piece rank to diminish a little but it was barely visible. It is still half of the time second and the other half third. Nothing comparable to what Bleach did during the Fullbring arc.
On the contrary Naruto's rank is quite low at the moment most of the time between 4 and 5 in state of the usual 2 and 3.

What are you talking about? In the last 20 issues Naruto didn't drop from top 3 and got nine 1st places. It's ranking pretty good.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

This are the ranking number of naruto in 2010 and 2011 TOC
PHP:
place	1st	2d	3d	4th	5th
2010 4	20	20	1	0
2011 5	10	14	13	3
And in 2012 with 10 issues, it was 4 times 4th and 2 times 5th.

Note : I took the real ranking including the cover page

I think it is pretty clear, it has fall down, much more than One Piece at least

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

in early 2011 the war arc was just starting with many not so popular characters... but it picked up after that
toriko also picked up taking a lot of 1st places

but you may be right when it comes to one piece it's popularity in japan will always overcome even bad arcs like the last one ( almost every single fan thinks so :D )
