Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

Even though this is 2 weeks old.. the Artist of Eyeshield 21 wrote on his twitter account that he doesn't want Pakky to end because he likes it. He then wrote that he will probably be misunderstood and should have wrote that he wanted it to continue.

This week's Jump Comic Sales:

20. Bastard!! -Ankoku no Hakaishin- #27 (40,039 / 199,013)
24. One Piece Blue Deep Characters World (33,529 / 431,855)
37. One Piece #65 (25,700 / 3,030,987)

---------- Post added April 05, 2012 at 03:00 PM ---------- Previous post was April 04, 2012 at 10:17 PM ----------

I feel like there might going to be about three or four new series on next line-up because: St&rs definitely going to end, Pakky has a high possiblity to be axed, Bakuman seems to be wrapping up, and there are another space made by one shot. That makes a total of four holes to put new series.

Negative, don't forget about the extra space created by HxH going back on hiatus.

i don't think that bakuman will end, more likely to be pushed as long as it needs and maybe too long for my taste.

don't forget hxh which could be on a longer hiatus and make room for other mangas.

Did you read this week's Bakuman? There's like a 95% chance that it's going to end in the next few chapters.

HxH's hiatus made a place for last two new series (Haikyuu!! and Pajama na Kanojo). Remember, only one series ended and two new series started on last time; so Jump needs one extra space for two new series and HxH's hiatus did made it.

Looking at it that way, I guess it works out, but that's only if both Haikyuu and Pajama na Kanojo both survive, not just plummet. Still, I don't really know if we'll get at least three new series though.

Inumaru Dashi could eventually get axed. Almost certainly not this round, but the rankings are usually in the bottom half, plus the sales aren't really there. With the level of trash that's been produced lately with the new series, I don't have confidence that anything will remain from the next group of series.

Nisekoi's somehow retaining a middle of the table ranking...

Even Haikyuu and Pajama did plummet, I think they are not going to be axed on new series line-up after the upcoming line-ups. Plus, Haikyuu is having a good start, so it means it will gonna do fine for next couple weeks, so Haikyuu is currently safe for this round of cancellation; Pajama's status is currently unknown, we'll see if this one is also doing good or not on next week.

A good part of the ToC could be axed. Medaka, Kuroko, Mago (volume sales), Kurogane (a bunch of series ranked lower, plus it's had generally good rankings), and Magico (a bunch of series ranked more lower) have all had low enough rankings that if there weren't reasons for keeping them, they could all be gone. I still don't understand why Jump tried so hard to keep Medaka and especially Kuroko.

Assuming that they're all gone within the next 50 odd chapters, Jump's going to have some problems, as there just hasn't been any real talent produced in a while. Most of the series produced have been complete trash.

However, they can bring profit to the publisher. Remember, unlike us readers, the publisher looks the series from the business perspective. They have to think how this series can bring profit to the publisher. It may be true that most of Jump series might be complete trash; but they make money for the publisher.

Mago's only there because of the volume sales, otherwise it would be gone. Medaka and Kuroko will both end before their animes, which are just starting, will end.

Kuroko's sells almost the same compared with Mago, besides its the only sports series note worth for at the moment. I just don't see it ending soon.

Medaka and Kuroko won't end, their anime just started. They'll stay around for awhile longer. Kurogane won't end this time either unless it just ultra tanks. Magico maybe but it's still doing alight. And Inumaru Dashi is gag and they never sell well. Jaguar was one of the most popular gags ever and it never sold 100,000 per volume. Inumaru Dashi is the only gag they got and they seem to like having gags around.

Exactly, Medaka and Kuroko will not going to end; their anime may push their popularity even more. It will be such a waste for Jump to end those series before they have anime effect.

@FrostyMouse:
You should not expect Jump to have the series with high artisitic value. Jump is the commercial magazine; if you want to read series with high artistic values, then you should read series from Afternoon or other magazine like that one.

i don't need to read it to say that i could not end. loke at dragonball and deathnote and you will see that they were pushed beyond their endings. it could at least come another arc in which they help the animation studio or another one in which they create a manga about mangakas and call it bakuman. there are many possibilities to make more or to show all of this as a epilogue.

Assuming that they're all gone within the next 50 odd chapters, Jump's going to have some problems, as there just hasn't been any real talent produced in a while. Most of the series produced have been complete trash.
thats the reason why they propably won't cancel magico. it has now so many chapters and they have so many low tier mangas they could cancel instead. magico already has a small fanbase which is guaranted to sell a bit.

Mago's only there because of the volume sales, otherwise it would be gone. Medaka and Kuroko will both end before their animes, which are just starting, will end.
there aren't that many mangas that end before or within the anime. most use it as a marketing tool and will conitnue. kuroko is there for variety. the same reason we got so many echi/romance at once. medaka is nisio isin had was more likely to have success than other mangas premiered around it. besides he trolled everyone with ending the manga before the anime, which he didn't. you can expect to read more about it.

Instead of making assumptions you should read the chapter. Bakuman is clearly ending in a couple of weeks. Chapter 174 was the climax of the series. Anything after the falling action will be anticlimactic, so the ending has to be now or never.

You can't really compare Bakuman to Dragonball or Death Note. It's too meta.
In Bakuman, Reversi was just ended despite the editors' wishes to extend it.
There's no way Ohba/Obata would extend Bakuman after that.

i wish you will be right with it, because from now on it could only get worse. But deathnote and other were extended even against the will of the mangaka. who knows if that was the case with bakumanbefore and he gets now is second try ending it.

I think it is most likely that Bakuman would end because it actually has nothing to cover and there are no goals for the protagonists.

I don't think it would be a good idea to extend Bakuman further anyway. I stopped reading it because I started to found it a bit repetitive and not so interesting. Now that I know that it will end soon, I'm looking forwarding catching up again.
