Well I can. The only thing I lack is a good moustache, but other than that I look exactly like a typical Southern-European.

When I speak to someone I don't know, they usually ask me if I'm from Spain. I assume they do because of my looks and because Spain is the most "common" place someone with my looks would be from. Can't expect the average person to know that Nuno is a typical Portuguese name.

Nah, I feel like it's grating on my ears every time I hear it. What's funnier is the actual Javanese with its own accent.

I missed this part. Norwegian probably sounds like a pretty ugly language. Danish just sounds retarded, like Norwegians with a potato stuck in their throat. Swedish is perhaps more nice to listen to.

I often draw parallels between Norwegian-Swedish and Portuguese-Spanish. Both the typical Norwegian and Portuguese sound harsh compared to their respective brothers, but both languages have accents that sound way better than the typical Swedish and Spanish IMO. I speak the regular versions of both.

How about Finnish? I've seen it a post in Tumblr that Finnish seems so different compared to Danish, Swedish and Norwegian. But Tolkien based Quenya on Finnish, so I guess it's beautiful in a way?

I think lots of characters in Assassin Creed are hilarious sometimes. I don't (more like can't) play the game, but I love to watch the video in Youtube because of the characters.

Finland is jokingly (and seriously) often excluded from Scandinavia because the language is so different. Scaninavia is mostly a three-country thing, with Finland awkwardly as a 4th member. The language has more in common with Russian and Sami tribe languages. All I know is that I can't understand a single word in Finnish, so that says a lot.

You mean look wise? Sure I guess. Other than that the cultures have differences, albeit mostly the "same". Spanish is completely foreign to me. My father has asked me several times throughout the years when I say I don't understand Spanish, "why? It's so easy and similar to Portuguese", but I cannot agree. I listed quite a lot to Spanish when I watch football etc, and it just sounds foreign too me.

Yeah. Although most languages can in a way draw parallels to English. A Norwegian can pretty much understand German (especially writing) in many cases, and vise versa.

Well, Spanish and Portuguese have the same root though I do understand that they have differences. IMO, I can learn Spanish better than Portuguese (I tried to learn Spanish years ago, but abandoned it as soon as I started it). Dunno why.

I have difficulty with German, I think Italian and French are a lot easier.

It's funny how some people seem to dislike their own native language. I think Indonesian is so boring and uninteresting, you think Norwegian is ugly, while I remember Kaoz said he somehow disliked Germany.

I don't actually dislike it, but I guess since Indonesian is so unknown compared to English/Chinese/French/other languages, I don't feel special in being able to speak Indonesian.

Well, Spanish and Portuguese have the same root though I do understand that they have differences. IMO, I can learn Spanish better than Portuguese (I tried to learn Spanish years ago, but abandoned it as soon as I started it). Dunno why.

I have difficulty with German, I think Italian and French are a lot easier.

I think if I picked up Spanish, I'd learn it multiple times faster than Italian. French is again very different compared to those three. German is easy, but I never took my German classes seriously back in Junior High so I've forgotten the majority of the little I learned. I learned more by watching German MTV for two weeks when I was 18 than 2 years of German classes.

Our language, probably. But there are also some websites teaching Indonesian, or websites which provide navigation in Indonesian. And there are still foreigners who visit Indonesia for studying, some even studying our traditional music/instrument/dance/etc. while we don't.

Spanish is easy. German is easy as well, however the pronunciation is more difficult to me. Which is odd, considering English is a Germanic language. But Spanish pronunciation came easier. Portuguese has more difficult pronunciation as well, and probably rivals French. But the structure is quite similar between the western Romance languages.

I have to disagree that Bahasa is really unknown, really. Some Australians and Arabs students have been learning Indonesian for almost 5-10 years now, since Indonesian is also included in their language curriculum. Not to mention some schools in East Asia as well.

Hard to say. Portuguese is like a third language to me so it comes naturally. German pronunciation comes easy too because of my Norwegian and English skills. I believe it gets harder for e.g. Norwegians the further south you go. Most Norwegians sound like retards when trying to speak e.g. Spanish.

I've heard of this before. I couldn't remember who I was talking to, though... But they did study Bahasa. Which is like.. wow. XD Now this hatsuharupeace is an Australian who also knows some Bahasa. Aren't we popular. XDDD

Mm, literature is not really my field, so perhaps I can't say much. While at times I found the poems and other written poems lovely, I'm not very fond of it as a whole.

Indeed. I'm always amazed at how many foreigners come here every year to study Indonesian culture and language. I've taught a foreigner Indonesian before, and I felt awkward really. Talking Indonesian to foreigner is just... weird. He was fluent in French and I really wanted to learn from him, but I had to teach him Indonesian instead.

Yeah, ironic. I don't even know how to play gamelan or dance traditional dance. :/

It might be cultural influence and exposure to Latino things anyway, but it's rather easy for me. Well...the New World version of Spanish. SPANISH spanish and Catalan and all that is a different animal altogether...

German is only easy because it has a lot in common with Norwegian. Like I said before, most Norwegians can read a lot of German without having any German skills.

That's certainly true. I almost forgot all my Portuguese after I moved to Norway as a child, so I can confirm that in that specific case.
