I wonder what the combined total of all of Adachi's sales are? If just Touch and H2 are potentially at 150million, then the rest probably easily bring him over 200million. And Mix is just piling on to that. He's probably one of the highest selling mangaka in Japan.

I don't know for the other mangas, but for Detective Conan, aren't these figures representing the total number of the print-runs, not the sales?

Plus, (including old volume sales), from 2008 to end 2012, Conan sold less than 12 750 000 volumes for 17-18 volumes published during this period, so less than 700 000 volumes for each new volume.

The 140 000 000 sales seem suspicious, it would mean each volume published between 1994 and 2007 had more than 2 000 000 sales, and less than 700 000 for those published between 2008-2012.

Edit : the link above also shows that the link posted by arsg is (almost?) all about print-runs, not sales.

Edit 2 : For Kindaichi Shônen no Jikenbo and Hajime no Ippo, the figures represent print-runs, not sales, I still don't know about the others mangas.

Those ARE print numbers. Japanese companies publish them instead for „sales“ numbers becuase of several reasons. One of them is that Japanese mangaka get paid per printed volume and not per sold volume. They get 10-15% per printed Volume. Another reason is that every printed volume will be sold at one point in time. Be it in 1 year or in 20 years from now on.

All true except the last statement. Every copy might not be sold, it all kind of depends. Some copies will simply be thrown out if they are left in the warehouse too long. Or they might be sold to bookstores at a discount as bargain books, at least that is what they do in the States. At some point extra copies become "acceptable loss". Books don't cost very much to print, storage and distribution are far more expensive. Publishers generally print extra in order to avoid shortage. If demand is high, you want bookstores to be able to restock immediately, rather than have to place a new book on back order. If that means printing more copies than can actually be sold it really is not a very big deal. For really popular manga, like Conan or One Piece, stock will move eventually. For less well known titles they will still overprint, even if it means taking a small loss.

Nice to see the anime has pushed older volumes back into the charts. Hopefully new volumes sales rise too. It would be nice to see Shingeki sell as well as Naruto and KimiTodo. The anime is spectacular, really well done.

What caught my attention was Sakamoto desu ga?'s record. It's quite impressive how it managed to be on the top 50 for almost two months now considering it's from a not-so conventional magazine. Is it really hyped in Japan right now? I don't know much of Enterbrain's/Fellow's series (the ones I know are Otoyomegatari, Ran to Haiiro, & Wolfsmund) but can someone enlighten me how rare it is for them to have to print this much for a series.

Can anyone tell me what that 'Limited Edition' means? Do all series get limited editions or is it only the really popular ones?
Nice to see Attack on Titan's all volumes on the list! I've been a huge fan of the manga. Have purchased all the 4 licensed volumes!

One more query which may be a little off topic (if anyone knows where the discussion might be,kindly direct me to that thread); Has anyone purchased the recent volume 4 of Attack on Titan? I received my copy yesterday...in the description,it says 'Includes special extras after the story', however there weren't any extras (in fact, there was no preview of next volume too...which the previous volumes had)...is thiis a mistake on the part of Kodansha Comics USA?

I'm not sure about that volume specifically, but usually Limited Edition tanks will have alternate covers/slips or be bundled with extra goodies.

The english licensed volumes do not have color pages...which is kinda sad. Would have loved to see the color pages.

Kanzenban have the color pages and also extra things from a series' original run. They usually come out after the series is completed and are printed in a slightly larger format. As far as I know, unless stated otherwise, the limited editions tend to have the special slip covers and that's it. There's been occasions when the limited edition is bundled with an OVA, for example. They tend to be more expensive, naturally.

Actually, there have been instances where the licensed volumes also have color pages and limited edition covers. But it depends on the series' popularity and the publisher/imprint.

Limited Edition roughly translates to "costs a lot more money". As the name implies, availability is limited. They generally include some sort of (often marginal) bonus to justify the higher price. A new slip cover could be included, they could bundle an OVA, or collectibles. What is included can vary wildly between titles.

Kanzenban is a print format. Think of them as complete editions. Kanzenban restore color pages, include special chapters and bonuses omitted from the tankobon edition, often including author notes and new bonus material. They are larger in size (about 14.8 cm by 21.0 cm) compared to tankobon (about 12.8 cm × 18.2 cm), printed on higher quality paper, and include multiple tankobon volumes. Kanzenban can be limited edition, only available temporarily, but they do not have to be. They could be made permanently available. Usually only popular, completed series get kanzenban editions. The Shinegki limited edition would not be kanzenban. VIZbig are roughly comparable to kanzenban editions.

I think its a mistake. A couple of my D.Gray-man volumes have a blurb saying a oneshot is included, when its obviously not. I think you should contact them on the issue.

I'm so impressed with Attack on Titan's attack on manga sales. This is amazing and I hope it can keep it up. Its funny that AssClass volume 3 is still on there though.

"Extras" might only mean the next volume preview, or a few pages of omake.
