Please check. How do these two sentences connect?

涙に濡れた顔でしがみついてくる弟に、慎一は次の休みには貴之の好きなものを買ってくるからと懸命に言い募った。

While still stunned Shinichi looked up at the spreading flames and smoke, Shinichi continued to call his younger brother's name.

...I'm thinking maybe;
いい加減聞き分けてくれよと年上ぶった物言いをした。涙に濡れた顔でしがみついてくる弟に、慎一は次の休みには貴之の好きなものを買ってくるからと懸命に言い募った。
Shinichi is telling his younger brother to understand, but after looking at his brother crying he gives in... Or something of the sort?

I think we need a bit more information (though this thread is from a while ago), sorry if this didn't really help. I think what mikkih said goes.

I too think being "stunned" is a good word choice for 唖然(としたまま).
