I'm talking about Hachi and Cupid. Kurokuroku and Hime-dol are certain to be cancelled this year yet, but Hachi and Cupid, no. If bad rankings continue, they will be cancelled next year, almost in Febuary taking in consideration all breaks in this time of year.
Yeah, I know. That's why I said "early next year."

If theyre being desperate now...then that doesnt really give me much hope that theres any good new series on the horizon.
Jump's situation is very well in my opinion. They got great series in the last two years almost not letting space for more success, Jump is well served for while. However, money is never enough, so they are promoting series to see if they get one more success, it's normal, probably they did it in the past.

It is normal thing for JumBang focused on the new series, even they are in danger; this isn't really a first time. Plus, they even did for Jump SQ. as well.

Toriko's sold more than Gintama and Bleach in the last several 6-month and year total sales reports. I dunno what you're basing that on. Next week or the week after, Toriko's going to be heading into a "part 2" sort of part of the manga. And the story has been changing quit a bit and gotten a lot better and deeper recently. Though I dunno how much that's affected popularity, it still stays really high in the TOC and sells really well. It's honestly the most exciting manga I read in Jump and I read most of it.

It gets promoted a lot both because it's a battle manga, and because most people like it once they read it but a lot of people are put off by the art style or aren't interested in the basic premise, it seems a lot of the time.

Toriko has surpassed Bleach because it released more volumes; Bleach still sell more on the per volume sale than Toriko.

Every people in here knows Toriko is popular. The main point what people are talking here is that Toriko will not going replace Naruto because Toriko is not that much popular enough to become a successor of Naruto.

That's why everyone is talking about.

Yeah, maybe. Toriko sells more of its back-volumes, I think is what you mean. My argument is that it's improving as a series so there's still potential for growth (I think Gintama is, too, but not as many people would agree. Hopefully good movie and movie BD sales will encourage a new season of the anime). The thing is though I don't think Naruto needs a replacement. It's not like the 1 million people that bought Naruto are all "up for grabs" and are going to "migrate somewhere". The people that read it and a lot of other manga are gonna continue reading other things. The people that generally don't read manga but read Naruto probably won't all just suddenly shift that 400 yen every 3 months onto one specific series.

I don't think there really aren't anything to improve Toriko's and Gintama's popularity. They already been serializing for long time and they already got anime/movie. Now, both of them do not have anything to attract the new readers.

How much could Gintama's popularity rise? Lawson's was recently selling meat buns shaped like Elizabeth, filled with mystery meat. Customers who guessed the filling could win an autographed copy of the movie (turns out it was pork sukiyaki). I don't care how many books a series sells (or doesn't), when a national chain of convenience stores sells a meat bun with a mystery filling, shaped like a minor character, it should be obvious it is among the biggest franchises in the country. Gintama's popularity is underrated by online manga fans. It's hugely popular in Japan.

I found this a few minutes ago, and it looks pretty interesting. It looks like a ranking of which former Jump mangaka fans would most like to see return. If someone could translate it, that would be great! I know that Inoue is ranked number one, Araki number two:

1位:井上雄彦 SLAM DUNK

Even if Gintama is popular it is not in an ascending phase rather the countrary given this year ranking so it is probably not a serie the magazine will use as flagship.
As for Toriko being better lately, I have a different opinion but I haven't read the last few chapters.

Nah. Toriko reached its peak in 2012. Toriko has a lot of potential, if you take the size of its world. However, usually by now, a series of that potential would have gotten a lot more sales under its belt. For some reason, Toriko's sales have remained stagnant. No increase or decrease. It is popular, no doubt. It ranks in the top 5 every time. But not along the lines of what Bleach was at its peak. And the sales thing. I've spoken about this before. So not getting into that. But we'll get the yearly sales list in another few weeks. Don't be surprised if Toriko is above Bleach again this year. Toriko has sold 6 volumes while Bleach would have sold 4. But given how there are a lot of series that seemed to have peaked this year (Magi, Shingeki), I doubt we'd see Toriko or Bleach in the top 10.

Gintama, like Kaiten says, is extremely popular in Japan. I don't get why people often assume Gintama is not that popular. Not saying you but others in general. Gintama really doesn't need any extra push for an anime return. It used to do quite well in the anime department. It even used to sell 10k each DVD, which is above any normal average. There maybe another reason as to why they stopped the anime. Who knows.

The anime stopped because they kept catching up to the manga. They even did this crazy thing where it would just have one new episode every few weeks interspersed with repeats, rather than filler episodes. The thing is the 2nd movie was kinda touted as the "finale of the anime".

It's already used as one. It's not like people just forget it's been serialized in WSJ for the last 10 years. Things don't last in WSJ for a decade just because they're feeling generous. Whether it's a series on the rise or not is kind of besides the point. They really aren't lacking in series like that anyway.

I dont know where Inoue would fit in JUMP, hed kind of get outdone by both Haikyuu!! And Kurobas. I just dont see any potential for a third sports title, though maybe if someone did soccer.

Of that list Id want the death note team, as well as Takei, and the mecha writer (jump needs a mecha).

Interesting ranking, but there is no reason to put Inoue and Araki in Top 2 because both serialize currently, as well as some of them below Top 10. For me, Ohba and Obata are the most likely to return any time soon.

Outdone? I mean, if you assume if Inoue came back to Jump that he'd have to do a Sports series, then maybe it'd be more Sports than we're used to. I wouldn't really complain about it though. At this point in his career I wouldn't assume it'd definitely be Sports though.

I don't honestly see that happening, it'd be cool though.

Flagship for the covers since this is what the discussion was about in the beginning.

If Inoue serialize in Jump I guess it would be only for the sequel of Slam Dunk. I don't see him doing anything else for this magazine.

He doesn't really have to do sports series, like Vagabond isn't a sports series but it is popular.

That ranking for the author who wish to return to Shounen Jump. Inoue and Araki do serializing currently, but they are serializing in different magazine; the fans want both of them to return to Jump.
