Discussion Who will get Ace's Mera Mera no Mi (Fire) Devil Fruit?

Anger Luffy? Blackbeard is the very reason Ace was captured and killed, he can't make Luffy any more angry than he has already done. I think it would be a total disaster for Luffy as a character if he failed in his first personal wish in the New World and your argument doesn't strike me as convincing at all, but opinions and preferences.^^

It would only lead to Luffy hunting Jesus and beating the shit out of him Imo, which isn't really a route Oda can go right now.

And that's honestly some total bullshit right here. Luffy needs a motivation?! W.. wh. whaaat!? That's contradictory to the whole point of waiting two years to nearly everything we've seen in the last couple years of One Piece. Yeah, Luffy wants to have fun and is having so, but his ultimate dream has him beating Blackbeard already, there is no way around it.

My theory is that Sabo will get the Mera Mera no Mi. He's the only character where I wont feel sad if he takes it and it won't feel like he stole the last remaining part of Ace but instead it would be like he is carrying the last remaining piece of Ace with him. I predict Sabo will make his return near the end of the Dressrosa Arc.

Yeah but Water 7 was before the time skip when he wanted to get stronger. His break for two years was in order to train so there wouldn't be a time where he couldn't protect his friends (like with Robin, and with Ace and with how Kuma scattered them).

If he loses the fight and doesn't protects ace's legacy with the Mera mera fruit the build up to luffy's 'true strength' would be for nothing. The only case I see Burgress getting the fruit is in the scenario @EddyBob15 mentioned. Luffy has defeated him, or luffy hasn't fought him yet and he takes the fruit in the damage.

I still feel like he wouldn't be able to eat it because it would be a case of him failing without us ever seeing him succeed. It wouldn't have much meaning.

While I agree with the idea of Rebecca using the fruit, I think it'll be as part of the Straw Hat crew.

Sabo is the Tobi of the one piece world when it comes to theories, looks liek it atealst.... Predicting Sabo will eat it is based on a theory that he is alive, so there is no real way to contest whether it will or will not happen. It will be great if it does , but I dont expect him coming towards the end of this arc, that would be too soon.

I think the soldier will eat the axotyl fruit, which the strawhats might have picked up from PH, it will help him grow back a limb.

That makes sense! Blackbeard's first mate (I think) should be super powerful so the mera mera fruit would make sense for him to have (the same can be said for coby). This whole time I've been thinking that there's no way he'll get it, but he might..I hope not

What if Doflamingo/Diamante is able to keep the mera mera no mi this arc? Luffy's priority isn't mera mera no mi anymore, and I'm not sure if Bart is able to go against Burgess or Diamante. What if because of all the hoopla, the devil fruit doesn't change hands at all? Doflamingo would still have leverage over Luffy.

I really feel like there is no one I would want to have the devil fruit to go to except possibly Rebecca or Bellami. I don't like Rebecca too much. but I feel like it is the only character that would make sense.

Luffy can't eat it so if he gets it he either has to give it to somebody or keep it and protect it. He can't protect it because he would end up protecting the fruit on a voyage which would lead to unnecessary, time-consuming plots that would distract from the main plot of the battle against the Yonko battle that will happen against Kaido.

If Luffy give it, he cannot give it to Sanji. Sanji relies on his kicks and has worked to generate fire on his own. That would be a waste of training if he was given the power to always make fire.

Furthermore, Sanji and Zorro are still useful underwater which makes them integral to have when Usopp stinks at fighting and cannot fight underwater, and nami cannot fight underwater. All the other members have eaten devil fruits so they cannot fight. So Zorro and Sanji are out.

Luffy would never give something so important as Ace's fruit to Zorro's sword or Usopp's weapon. That would be an insult to his big brother.

Usopp cannot get it, because usopp's entire gimmick is based on the premise that he is a coward and he cannot fight enemies head on. It is the reason he is funny and to make him become ultra powerful would be a waste of hundreds of pages of character development.

Momo cannot use it because he has eaten the artificial dragon fruit. Nami cannot use it because her powers have to revolve around weather and navigation. Coby cannot have it because for a marine to accept a DF from a pirate would be crazy. Luffy has to receive the DF at one point to validate the two years of training, showing that now he can protect anything that he truly wants to protect. "

If anyone from blackbeard's crew gets it or if DD keeps it again it is just showing that Luffy has not improved to the level he wanted to without showing he has improved at all. In the theory about Sabo, if Sabo comes back from the dead I will be really mad. That story was really touching and would lose meaning if he casually survived and lived his life as a pirate.

Somebody has to protect dressrosa when the strawhats leave. This is the New World so that person has to be logia level strong. If rebecca eats the fruit, because Luffy completely trusts her, then rebecca will stay and protect Dressrosa. If bellami decides to help Luffy, because he is scared, he will stay back and be the protector of dressrosa.

If Luffy beats him, and IF Doflamingo has the fruit. Expand your mind, and you'll see that there are different possibilities there that can result in Luffy getting the fruit later. And hopefully saving it for the next generation of pirate king.
