Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

I'm surprised to see Hunter x Hunter so high on the volumes sold chart, but fail to make the top 20 manga revenue chart.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Assuming this goes from Nov 12, 2012 to nov 2013 like the other lists, then with the release of Eva 3.0 and its great performance in theaters in jpn as well as its disc sales the movie (selling 398K bds, and 176K dvds, making it best selling anime dvd and bd in 2013) its high placement is much expected.

Evangelion had a manga, that ended in 2013, and a lot o others spin-off series too!

---------- Post added at 12:40 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:17 AM ----------

Comparing Gintama on the two charts is very interesting. It generated ¥1,186,000,000 on the manga only chart, but ¥3,252,000,000 on the total revenue chart. It's a good example of why tankobon sales do not represent an exact quantification of popularity.

Gintama had in 2013 a movie, Light novel, CD and the anime sales. It isn't strange at all that when counting everything he would make an huge jump. This doesn't shows in any way that Gintama has more popularity with the anime than with the manga. This numbers are only revenue and not popularity, CD/DVD/BD cost a lot while tankobon a little. A BD can cost 60$ while a tankobon will only cost 5$, BD is 12 times more expensive. So less people like it and are able to make the same money than the manga.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

One Piece is untouchable.

If I recall correctly, lately Magi has been selling at a faster rate than Conan. However it still has a lower first print numbers. I wonder why.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Snk would be getting 2.7million initial print for the upcoming volume. That's probably the closest a series will ever get to One Piece. Unless SnK itself increases more.

I believe it because Conan is bigger veteran series than Magi, and used to be has bigger tank sales than now. so publisher decide to print it that much. same with Vagabond with Fairy Tail, or Hajime no Ippo with Nanatsu no Taizai .

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

The anime of Haikyuu was well received in Japan. A sales boost is not surprising. A sales boost this soon is a little bit of a shock. I like the anime, I'm glad for the manga. The same can be said for the light novels Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, No Game No Life, and Kagerou Daze (Mekaku City Actors). Old volumes of all three series rose back into this weeks light novel charts.

Old volumes of Mahouka, No Game No Life, and Kagrou Daze continue to chart. I'm glad to see the new Oregairu volume topping the charts.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

I think at this point in time we have our big winners for the adaptations this season that moved their source material volumes, Kagepro, Mahouka, Haikyuu!!, and probably the darkhorse in the mix, No Game No Life.

Magi's selling less than Conan again, now that the anime's over. That's a little disappointing.

Yes... It makes me wonder why people stop to buy the series when they already bought 21 volumes just because the anime ended. XD
Or maybe, they just get less excited and take a longer time to buy it?

Conan sales increasing. well because its movies help, especially this movie seem to be important to main storyline unlike previous movie which was just a filler.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Conan's sales are not increasing. It's within the same range as every volume released since Oricon started tracking manga sales. Volume 83 sold only about 30,000 more copies than volume 82. Magi is only down by about the same amount. Sales vary from volume to volume for every series. That doesn't mean sales have risen or fallen. Magi and Conan sold within the exact range that they always do. Next volume of each will rise or fall by almost the same amount, somewhere between 15 - 30,000 copies. I know this because every copy, of both series, vary in sales by that same amount, without fail, over a period of years.

Magi's anime ended less than three weeks ago
Too soon people, too soon.
