I come back online after a quick peek this morning to find so many new posts and wondered what happened. Now I want to join in the fun.
I actually don't read a lot of WSJ series, and I've lost quite some interest in manga altogether after having things IRL to deal with.
Kochikame: I only read one chapter, but I think I can see why it's like the Simpsons of WSJ.
OP: Don't read. I don't feel like catching up on hundreds of chapters. I just know that Oda is a nice guy and he most likely deserves the respect he gets.
HxH: Don't read. I don't feel like catching up on hundreds of chapters.
Naruto: Dropped it ~7 years ago because I burned out, not that I think it got worse at that time, but I heard it had gotten a lot worse in recent years with Obito doing various shenanigans.
Bleach: Dropped it ~1-2 years ago, doubt it's gotten any better with all this Fullbringer BS and its snail pace.
Gintama: Don't read. I don't feel like catching up on hundreds of chapters.
Toriko: Don't read. I don't feel like catching up on hundreds of chapters.
KnB: Don't read. Not interested in sports manga.
Nisekoi: I read one chapter and swore off reading romcoms ever since. I also heard the story's been stalling a lot over the past tens of chapters. The fandom is insane too, morseo than any other WSJ series I've ever seen. If there's one request I'd like to make, it's this: Dear God, give us back Enigma and we'll give you Nisekoi.
Haikyu: Don't read. Not interested in sports manga.
Kusuo Saiki: Read one chapter, not interested in its writing style.
AC: I can understand why people don't like this manga. I run the Wiki and I barely see anyone contributing, less so compared to WT and IR. Even I'm personally not very attached to this series either, but I think I can see why it's so much more popular in Japan. To put it in one sentence: Whereas many gag manga are lost in translation to foreign readers, this one's lost in demographics.
SnS: Dropped it after the first 10 chapters or so. I personally don't like reading manga with such a cutthroat setting. Eventually, I think I'll get over that and read it again someday. I can definitely commend it for being pretty serious about introducing the reader to the world of cooking and its creativity.
WT: Again, even though I run the Wiki, I'm actually not that attached to this manga either; I keep getting lost in the storyline. Like SnS, I think it's very detailed and well-planned, with such a massive cast of characters and their abilities. I'll keep reading it gradually because I have a feeling it could expand if it manages to survive for the next while.
SC: Read one chapter. I don't like how overly emotional everyone is, and it's definitely not going for technicality as I was hoping it would, like Bakuman and Soma did.
IIM ~UwTy~: Can't read, not translated. I'm personally not a fan of Ukiyoe style art either.
IR: I'm definitely liking this one the most out of the 4 new series. It's taking on a steady pace so it's very easy for readers to follow the storyline. It's definitely a little messy at the moment, but I think it can still sort itself out if given the time. I think some people need to stop the prejudice on the fact that it's a "dark(er)" series and dismissing it as nothing beyond that.
iShojo: Don't read. Not interested in romcom manga, especially after Nisekoi.
SS: Read ~5 chapters as of today, and I may finish the rest if I can push myself to it, for the sake of trying to keep my views on this manga as objective as possible. I just don't understand all the fandom this manga's been having. There's too much stuff going on at once, so it's really hard to follow. I watched a few episodes of Durarara!! a few years ago and had positive impressions, so I don't think Narita's that bad a writer. I just don't think he can adapt to the fast pace of WSJ.
TWB: Don't read. Not interested in sports manga. As yet another manga building up to the hype of yet another FIFA World Cup, I wasn't expecting it to succeed.
