Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

That thing about Titan was regarding reach op latest volume sales wise, go back and take a close look. Never did I mention Titan and peak in the same sentence. But this is probably the peak year for Titan, with those 2 things hitting the jp cinemas this year and such.. But I need to watch next year numbers first to be more sure.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Titans highest selling volume sold less than one pieces latest volume and its newest volumes are at over 1 million less than that one piece volume, so how does what you're saying make any sense?

My point doesn't even compare Titan and op, when it comes to peaks aspect. But then again Titan vol 1 is still selling a lot... And will continue to do so this year with all the pushing, all its volumes are reaching 2 million quicker and quicker. While op is having trouble reaching 3 million nowadays, even that scenario if you do a little graphic makes sense. The latest is at 2 million and op not even 2.9, this isn't over 1 million to me.

You do know that volume 13 of attack on titan was the first time attack on titan sold over 1 million in a week right? That means it's actually gaining more fans.

Don't be surprise if volume 14 gets eve a higher sales than 13.

Also find it funny that a lot of people were saying attack on titan sales would drop because the anime has ended. lol to that. attack on titan first half sales was 4 million in 2013, now it's 8 mil.

I don't see how anything I said could be seen as me believing AOT's per volume sales would decrease from here on in. I'm not claiming to know its peak/prime. For 2 0r 3 volumes before its latest volume it was threatening to break 1 million in its first week it would of if not for the limited additions (i know volume 14 had a limited as well.) what i'm saying is don't assume that one piece's sales have stagnated. or/and that you shouldn't assume Titan is going to randomly get another 1 million average volume sales because there's a live action film in development. Its illogical, we don't know how things will play out but at this point in time, One piece's new volumes far outsell that of AOT's and there is now way in hell we could possibly know that things would change drastically enough wherein one-piece would suddenly drop 1million sales or AOT would suddenly rise by a million, even if it is a possibility.

Well, Shingeki's not going to last forever. The author said it'd be like 20 volumes. Then there are things to consider like the live action movie boosting sales. And they're likely to eventually make more seasons of the anime.

Am I the only one that thought the series was way better in the beginning, and now it seems to be just full of political intrigue more than anything? I dunno. It seems odd to me that it seems to still be getting popular at this point.

Quality |= sales/popularity unfortunately. I agree with you.

Have you ever heard about good marketing and advertising? Snk is doing a good job at that, and it will continue to gain new fans everyday. Go eat a snk burger and relax. XD

I dont think Ive ever seen any correlations of plot to manga sales before. Most series seem to always experience parabolic type growth and decline...I would have expected one piece to drop post time skip to current, but that seems impossible.

Shingeki with that 20volume limit (he said that?) seems like itd end before sales drop, I think so I dont think that issue would ever be addressed :(

He said he's going to change the ending and add new elements in the series. That smells like he's extending the series imo. Don't expect snk to end at volume 20.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

I'm sure AOT will run for longer then he originally planned, success to that degree is something you milk for as long as you can.

Have you ever heard about good marketing and advertising? Snk is doing a good job at that, and it will continue to gain new fans everyday. Go eat a snk burger and relax. XD
1 million more sales is asking for a hell of a lot, is basically what I'm saying

By now you would be hard pressed to find someone in Japan who hasn't heard of AOT, sure its sales may grow but unless something insanely drastic happens to increase the series's popularity by an immense amount I dont see it reaching 3 million with new volumes, sure anything can happen but I've only seen that type of growth once before with a series that was already immensly popular (one piece) and while I think it could potentially happen for Shingeki, I would say its extremely unlikely. It differs from one piece as others have already stated, its only 14 volumes long, easy enough to pick up, the large majority of potential new readers would have tried it already. So the way I see it any potential extra audiences have heard/experienced it already.
It isn't on piece with 73 volumes of backlog to get through.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Silver spoon boost is manly the live action boost(for the first half of this year). Then you agree with me, on having passing the peak.. That was my point all along.
Silver Spoon had a sales boost? Not based on this chart. Sales now are within the same range as it's year ending sales in 2013. The charts contained in the link ended on November 17, a day before the newly posted charts started.

No, I am not agreeing with you. I strongly disagreeing with the basic premise of your argument. Catalog sales of that level are unsustainable. Falling from those totals was inevitable, whether Shingeki, One Piece, Haikyuu, or any other series. It holds no statistical meaning. One Piece declining from 36 million total sales does not equate to a decline in popularity. It just means catalog sales decline. The same adjustment is inevitable for Shingeki. Sales for the second half of the year will not be as high as they were during the first half. It has nothing to do with popularity. Shingeki's catalog sales since the anime started are unsustainable.

OP still has prints as much as we know, TXC said that Aot couldn't have reached that number with only new volumes and if OP had another new volume AoT would probably still be number one . because there is more demand on its older volumes.
There was temporary demand for old volumes, based on fans of the anime catching up with old volumes. Catalog sales have already declined, and will not be a factor in future charts. This is not an indication Shingeki has surpassed One Piece, or that One Piece is in decline.

which makes the point of stating exactly what he said back at him confusing :) he simply pointed out that if OP had another volume it PROBABLY wouldn't have changed the outcome. so i guess we all agree
What is the outcome? Six months of un-parsed total volume sales are not an indication of overall popularity.

Silver spoon continued to have a boost, last year was boosted by the anime, this year by the live action obviously. When I say boost, I mean older volumes selling.

Shingeki's sales peaked last year. Catalog sales this year will not match those in the link. Old volumes probably won't even show in the year ending charts. Not that really means anything.

and what is the " two weeks before this chart period began " ? does this mean they were counted in the previous year's charts or not ?
These charts only cover the period from November 18, 2013 - May 18, 2014. One Piece volume 72 came out on November 1, 2013. These charts do not include the first seventeen days it was on sales. The difference was included in the top selling manga of 2013 chart. Those charts covered a period ending on November 17, a day before these new charts were posted. These charts only cover six months, not a year. Year ending charts come in November. You are effectively comparing the entire back catalog of Shingeki, including full sales for two volumes, to less than two full volumes worth of One Piece sales. Less than two new volumes worth of One Piece sales is equal to 59% of sales for the entire back catalog of Shingeki. Total sales of three new volumes of One Piece alone would have exceeded Shingeki's total sales. Shingeki will move back to number two as soon as catalog sales have regressed to the mean.

Show me this boost. Sales last year were the same as sales this year. The anime did not boost sales. The anime wasn't even popular in Japan. Here are last years sales, again. Same range as the amount posted today.

Losing about 200k of sales is a decline to you? Op sales declined about this amount.

---------- Post added at 12:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:56 AM ----------

Silver spoon was selling about 700k before falling off the charts, when the live action started a new volume came out and even a older volume charted. With all older ones high on the daily ranking.

---------- Post added at 01:00 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:58 AM ----------

One Piece probably never sells 36 million again. Shingeki probably peaks this year, never selling as many copies again. These were your words... Peak as never as many copies, this is exactly what I said.

Sorry. Sales now are the same as before the drama came out. Sales now are the same as last year. The anime was not very popular. The difference in sales between 2012 and 2013 are not attributable to the anime.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Silver spoon 11 did that 900k (3 months) in a few months... And is above 10 that came before the live action movie, it will most likely be above 1 million in the yearly. More than any from the last year. Yup, that's a boost alright.

---------- Post added at 01:12 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:09 AM ----------

Hell we are talking about 100k more already.. 35 777,352 Silver Spoon 8 Shogakukan 2013/07
Hiromu Arakawa = + 1 month than vol 11 on sale.. 9 did 692k but on less time (1month less) but I doubt it would have sold 200k more in 1 month after being 2 out on sale..

You realize that volume 73 of one piece was literally on sale from 4th of March till the 18th of May. And it sold 2,825,339 in that time. how is that in decline? For the most part one piece volumes sell just over 3mill when the end of year sales charts come out. Just because it didn't rush to its 3 million doesn't mean its in decline. In decline would mean it wont reach 3 million ever,(seeing as 3 million is its supposed norm)

Thats like saying naruto doesn't sell a million because its current latest volume isn't likely to pass 1 million whilst in charts on oricon. Or AOT is in decline cause none of its newest volumes have managed to reach the same sales its first few volumes have.

For example 72 is still to reach 3 million and came out long ago already.4 2,354,005 One Piece 72 Shueisha 2013/11
Eiichiro Oda +

So apparently volume 73 has 0 chance of selling 3.1mill by the time the end year charts come out? If were talking about decline over a year period that's the only way what your saying could be perceived as logical. In that case wait until the end year chart before making some bold claim like One piece is in decline because its selling slower than it did when it was being hyped to hell and gone.

Slower doesn't equate to less

Same goes for Gin no Saji, If none of its previous volumes have sold a million within a single year you cant claim the sales are on the increase until it has actually sold more.
