Luffy's mother is an influential pirate in the NW(no not BM). Since in the first part of OP we got to meet his father, the second part should have her make an appearance, if she's not dead.

HOw do you know she's an influential pirate?

Lol no it was just something I thought of. I always found it weird that she wasn't mentioned, that if she was dead Luffy would have known about it.I like to think that she's alive and has a bigger role to play in the future.Oh, I thought you were replying to me.
Might be true, and she might be the one who saves Luffy, as his dad did. Or he saves her instead. She must either be safe from being associated with Dragon or is powerful or well protected, if she's still alive.
Oh yea, now that's crazy!!!My Crazy Theory is that Usopp is actually a D too !!!
1- We never heard his full name
2 - He's the worst enemy of Celestial Dragon actualy in life :
- He smashed one to dust with his royal butt !!!
http://www.mangareader.net/103-2610-11/one-piece/chapter-503.html
- He anger Doflamingo (a CD) to the point in getting an incredible bounty on his head !!! And he's the main reason of his downfall !!!
http://www.mangareader.net/one-piece/746/11
At this point of the story, Usopp is the living being who did the most damage to Celestial Dragon
All this element make me think he can be a D, only a god can be a threat to other gods![]()
That would be interesting, although I think its more likely she would be dead.Luffy's mother is an influential pirate in the NW(no not BM). Since in the first part of OP we got to meet his father, the second part should have her make an appearance, if she's not dead.
How is Garp a Monkey the brother of Roger who was a Gol?Both are Ds but they come from different families...I've always thought Shakky could be Luffy's mom, and Garp and Roger were brothers.
We didn't know Luffy had a dad or a grandpa in the early parts of the manga, so I wouldn't exclude her being alive just yet. That would be interesting, although I think its more likely she would be dead.
How is Ace a Portgas the son of Roger who was a Gol?How is Garp a Monkey the brother of Roger who was a Gol?
Lol you're using the wrong example. Ace was also a Portgas from his mother's side remember? He chose the name Portgas instead of the one that was given to him at birth, Gol D Ace.How is Ace a Portgas the son of Roger who was a Gol?
Oh wait...
Both could have been raised by different parents. That could also explain the difference in career paths where one became the most renowned pirate in the world, and the other became the marine famed for stopping him.
He didn't even know about his dad, how would the idiot know about his mom?Lol no it was just something I thought of. I always found it weird that she wasn't mentioned, that if she was dead Luffy would have known about it.I like to think that she's alive and has a bigger role to play in the future.
Hard to imagine, as I believe Roger was closer to Dragon's age than Garp's. But Rayleigh looks pretty old, so who knows. Shakky is a possibility though, but I doubt it if she really is as old as Rayleigh, give or take.I've always thought Shakky could be Luffy's mom, and Garp and Roger were brothers.
Talking about crazy, I'd expect the reverie to bring interesting results like not only Vivi but the whole Kingdom of Alabasta backing up the SH with some others that they helped, like Dalton or King Riku (as I'd expect him to be the one joining reverie for Dressrosa) and break the whole council into separate camps backing SH and against them. This would also give some pace to RA actions. Sabo is back for a reason!Vivi will show up again at the reverie with her father king cobra and she'll join the strawhat crew then. (or at least again as a part-time active member)
It was the perfect example. You just completely missed the point. The fact of the matter is that there existed two characters in this manga who had a father/son relationship but had different family names. Garp could have been raised by their mother, while Roger could have been raised by their father or vice versa, hence adopting different names.Lol you're using the wrong example. Ace was also a Portgas from his mother's side remember? He chose the name Portgas instead of the one that was given to him at birth, Gol D Ace.
Ergo the reason we're on the 'Crazy Theories and Predictions' thread. Unless of course you think your theory about Luffy's mom being an influential pirate was "ever implied".I don't think it was ever implied that Roger and Garp might be connected in the way you're describing
Garp and Roger resemble each other about as much as Hancock does her sisters. There's not even much physical resemblance between the two
Lol wut are you even talking about? Like rivals can't be siblings. It's ok to make theories, even crazy ones, as long as they don't contradict what has already been established from a long time now, that Garp and Roger were rivals
Hard to imagine, as I believe Roger was closer to Dragon's age than Garp's. But Rayleigh looks pretty old, so who knows. Shakky is a possibility though, but I doubt it if she really is as old as Rayleigh, give or take.
Lol I'm just trying to understand how your theory works. It was Ace who adopted the Portgas name, despite being born Gol, because he hated his father and he wanted to repay his mother's sacrifice. His mother was seen calling him Gol D Ace when he was born and Garp was there. If he was related to the Monkey line why didn't he adopt their name as well? The fact is he was supposed to be Gol D Ace. You're just saying that because it's more convenient for your theory^^.Also it seems to me that even if Garp and Roger were related, they would still get the name of their father, unless they willingly changed their name like Ace did.It was the perfect example. You just completely missed the point. The fact of the matter is that there existed two characters in this manga who had a father/son relationship but had different family names. Considering that she wasn't even shown, or ever said that she was dead it still leaves a possibility for that. In the Roger and Garp situation they were already introduced, and we know actually a lot of things about them. So the possibility of that happening is pretty low, and would even contradict what has already established about their relationship. Also I'll just remind you that while this thread is for "crazy" theories, it's not for trolling, meaning that the theories shouldn't be so crazy as to seem impossible.Ergo the reason we're on the 'Crazy Theories and Predictions' thread. Unless of course you think your theory about Luffy's mom being an influential pirate was "ever implied".
If you say so. Still I expect Roger to look like Ace without the freckles when he was younger, which would make Garp and Roger look a lot like Luffy and Ace.Garp and Roger resemble each other about as much as Hancock does her sisters.
I'm just curious in your theory does Garp and Roger know they're siblings? If they're rivals, and knew they were brothers, and even lived together for some time before they went on their separate way, they would still care for each other even a bit right? But it seems to me that they didn't, because all they had was respect for each other, despite their different careers. And how would it be like if Garp caught his own brother and sent him to be executed? You saw how much of a hard time he had with Ace getting executed. It would also be fucked up because it would have been the second time he sent a relative of his to get executed.Lol wut are you even talking about? Like rivals can't be siblings.

It's not much different to how naming works in reality. You normally assume the name of the parent that brought you up if they're not together. A name is not a genetic trait that you're born with. Gol D Ace was simply the name Ace's mom gave to him by convention. He wasn't born with it, so he simply decided to change it in honor of his mom. Likewise, Garp and Roger could have either changed their own names or the parent they grew up with did. The only part that is fixed is the 'D'.Lol I'm just trying to understand how your theory works. It was Ace who adopted the Portgas name, despite being born Gol, because he hated his father and he wanted to repay his mother's sacrifice. His mother was seen calling him Gol D Ace when he was born and Garp was there. The only thing we know about Garp and Roger's relationship is the fact that they were rivals, which doesn't discount the possibility of them being siblings that grew up in different homes.Considering that she wasn't even shown, or ever said that she was dead it still leaves a possibility for that. In the Roger and Garp situation they were already introduced, and we know actually a lot of things about them.
We've seen how Roger looked like when he was younger, and funnily enough not only did he look very similar to Garp, he also resembled Luffy a lot more than he did Ace. In fact, he bore more of a resemblance to Luffy than a young Garp even did and was basically a spitting image of him...Hmm, I wonder why. Oda doesn't make similarities like that for fun. It would make sense if Roger was Luffy's great uncle. The young Garp also looked a bit like Ace, which would make sense if Garp was also Ace's great uncle. If you say so. Still I expect Roger to look like Ace without the freckles when he was younger, which would make Garp and Roger look a lot like Luffy and Ace.
They may have, they may not have, though it's likely that they were separated at birth if their parents were really a marine and a pirate. Maybe their parents eventually told them of the blood relationship that they had with each other. We've seen from Rosinante that you can be brothers with someone and not feel any emotional attachment to them as far as duty is concerned.I'm just curious in your theory does Garp and Roger know they're siblings?
The naming convention in general is based after the father's last name in all the patriarchal societies. Even if the parents get separated the children still bear the name of their father, unless they change it when they grow up.In Spain and South American countries the name of the mother is also included. I think it's the case for Law. So your theory would be possible if like Ace they changed their name when they grew up. Another fact to take into consideration is that Ace could have been hunted down if he wore the Gol name of his father. It was much safer to him to be known as Portgas D Ace, which I'm sure Garp also thought about, since he didn't want Luffy or Ace to become pirates and wanted them to be marines because it's safer. I also think it's safer for a D to be on the side on the WG, compared to being a pirate or a revolutionnary, but that's just speculation at this point. It's not much different to how naming works in reality. You normally assume the name of the parent that brought you up if they're not together. A name is not a genetic trait that you're born with. So you're saying that depending of the person they grew up with, whether they were a pirate or a marine, they would turn out like them? It's a manichean way to look at things. Granted Rosinante turned out a marine like Sengoku, but I really think he would have joined the Marines or the RA all the same, because he's good at heart and wouldn't have wanted to repeat the same madness done by his brother.I'm also thinking that Garp and Roger's parents could have been a marine and a pirate, which would not only explain why they couldn't be together, but also why Garp and Roger grew up so differently.

Maybe but them being brothers would mean that their bond was much deeper than that. Garp was seen having no remorse at the idea of arresting Roger. If they were brothers they'd still be some lingering feelings. The only thing we know about Garp and Roger's relationship is the fact that they were rivals, which doesn't discount the possibility of them being siblings that grew up in different homes.
Actually this ressemblance is made to highlight the similarities between Roger and Luffy. Some readers have even been saying that Luffy is the reincarnation of Roger. There's the hat, the smile, and their attitudes which is pretty similar. It is to convince the readers that Luffy will be the one to succeed Roger and that he's potentially the one who inherited his will. During Marineford, it seemed to me that there was a big similarity between Roger and Ace, not just physically, but also in the way that they didn't back down from a fight, as explained by Shanks. That would a bit too convenient, wouldn't it? Being separated at birth, with each parent having different and opposite careers. Also it seems to me that you're basing your theory on the current situation with Rosinante and DD. While it's true that Rosinante didn't chose his brother, he didn't hate him either. Or else he wouldn't have hesitated to pull the trigger. We can say that DD didn't really care for his brother though, or that he only cared as long as he was loyal to him. They may have, they may not have, though it's likely that they were separated at birth if their parents were really a marine and a pirate. Maybe their parents eventually told them of the blood relationship that they had with each other. We've seen from Rosinante that you can be brothers with someone and not feel any emotional attachment to them as far as duty is concerned.
That and the fact that Garp didn't deem important to inform him about his parents.Or maybe he wanted to protect him? And even the Marines didn't make the connection between Garp and Dragon, as seen in Water 7.He didn't even know about his dad, how would the idiot know about his mom?![]()
He actually knew nothing about the Revolutionary Army or even his dad despite the same last name.
Children are given their names by their parents. Until the parents decide what to call them, they are essentially nameless. Ace didn't get pushed out of his mother's uterus with the name 'Gol D Ace'. No child ever is, so it doesn't matter what Garp and Roger were supposed to be called by reason of tradition, just like it doesn't matter that Ace was supposed to be a Gol. The fact is that once he changed his name, he no longer was. The only thing that connected him to Roger from that point was his blood. Garp and Roger's names could also have been changed later in life for a number of reasons, most pertinently because they lived with different parents. If their parents were a marine and a pirate, then it could also have been changed in order to hide their connection. The naming convention in general is based after the father's last name in all the patriarchal societies. Even if the parents get separated the children still bear the name of their father, unless they change it when they grow up.In Spain and South American countries the name of the mother is also included. It's sure as hell more likely. It depends on how involved the marine or pirate were in their lives. The only adult figures Law ever really knew were pirates, while Luffy had a marine Grandad but was more exposed to piracy when he was young. The environment you grow up in, your experiences and your personality are what dictates your dreams and aspirations. Usopp's dad was a pirate, so he aspired to be like him. If Garp was raised in a strict marine household and had bad experiences with pirates then chances are he would become a marine. Likewise, if Roger was raised by a pirate and was exposed to the injustices of the marine system from an early age, chances are he would become a pirate. So you're saying that depending of the person they grew up with, whether they were a pirate or a marine, they would turn out like them?
Not really. One Piece is a manga where you can become 'brothers' juts by sharing drinks. If Garp and Roger didn't grow up together, I don't expect them to have developed any emotional attachment towards one another especially if it gets in the way of their duty. Brotherhood in One Piece is deeper than blood.Maybe but them being brothers would mean that their bond was much deeper than that. Garp was seen having no remorse at the idea of arresting Roger. If they were brothers they'd still be some lingering feelings.
Reincarnationist lore doesn't say anything about looking like your past life. Not only that but reincarnation will be completely random in One Piece, seeing as there is no other known cases of it occurring. I doubt Oda would entertain such a random theory by creating an uncanny resemblance between the main character and the most influential man in the OP universe. It's more sensible that Luffy got the same personality traits and looks as his great uncle, which is even quite common between kins in real life.Actually this ressemblance is made to highlight the similarities between Roger and Luffy. Some readers have even been saying that Luffy is the reincarnation of Roger. There's the hat, the smile, and their attitudes which is pretty similar. Nah it wouldn't. There's nothing complicated about having parents that had different careers, just like there's nothing complicated about being a marine with a son who's a revolutionist, and two grandsons who are pirates. That would a bit too convenient, wouldn't it?
