Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) :super
Directed by: Alejandro González Iñárritu
Screenplay by: Alejandro González Iñárritu, Nicolás Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris, Jr., Armando Bo
Starring: Michael Keaton, Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts
Watch it if you like: Synecdoche, New York, Fight Club

An excellent surreal ambitious existential dark comedy drama film about fame, prestige and reality.

It's not just Michael Keaton, Emma Stone and Edward Norton (all three nominated for an Academy Award) who gave amazing performances. Naomi Watts, Andrea Riseborough, Zach Galifianakis and Amy Ryan also gave great performances worth mentioning. A great ensemble cast.

The co-existence of jazz drum beats and classical music score in the film is cool. Great cinematography by Emmanuel Lubezki and nice editing by Douglas Crise and Stephen Mirrione making the film look like a whole long take.

Whiplash :super
Directed by: Damien Chazelle
Screenplay by: Damien Chazelle (Based on the short film Whiplash by Damien Chazelle)
Starring: Miles Teller, J. K. Simmons, Paul Reiser, Melissa Benoist, Austin Stowell
Watch it if you like: There Will Be Blood, The Social Network

J. K. Simmons should better win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor! His performance was intimidating as hell. Kudos to Miles Teller and Damien Chazelle as well.

All that Jazz! :headbang

He did won.

Where did you watch? I can't find any movie theater showing that movie around my area.
Download :hurr

Also seen John Wick, what a fucking action masterpiece. Enjoyed every single scene of that, welcome back Keanu!! Its big box office success was well deserved.
I watched John Wick for its first thirty minutes and got pretty bored so i stopped, ahahaha.

Screenplay by: Richard Glatzer, Wash Westmoreland (Based on Still Alice by Lisa Genova)
Starring: Julianne Moore, Alec Baldwin, Kristen Stewart, Kate Bosworth, Hunter Parrish
Watch it if you like: A Moment to Remember, Through a Glass Darkly

Julianne Moore should better win the Academy Award for Best Actress! Her performance was genuinely executed. Alec Baldwin and Kristen Stewart both performed well too.

The Grand Budapest Hotel :thumbs
Directed by: Wes Anderson
Screenplay by: Wes Anderson (Story by Wes Anderson, Hugo Guinness)
Starring: Ralph Fiennes, Tony Revolori, F. Murray Abraham, Mathieu Amalric, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Harvey Keitel, Jude Law, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Saoirse Ronan, Jason Schwartzman, Léa Seydoux, Tilda Swinton, Tom Wilkinson, Owen Wilson
Watch it if you like: Hugo, Hot Fuzz

Ralph Fiennes' performance is Oscar-worthy. Amazing supporting ensemble cast. Gorgeous cinematography.

Edward Norton is in two films which are nominated for Best Picture this year and he is nominated for an acting award for one of them (Birdman [Best Supporting Actor Nominee], The Grand Budapest Hotel) just like Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club [Best Actor Nominee and Winner], The Wolf of Wall Street) and Amy Adams (American Hustle [Best Actress Nominee], Her) last year.

I sort of want to see Grand Budapest Hotel, but I sort of have the same reaction to his work. I liked Rushmore, but everything else he makes...idk.
I think you'll also like The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Well Ralph was snubbed that's all there is to it. :/ Shame really considering how many nominations Budapest has. Selma as well, odd thing that Lincoln and 12 Years a Slave did so well and Selma is out of the picture now? :4head

Anyway ...

That's a great opening theme and sequence right there, watched The Third Man by Carol Reed, so inspiring, so moving, so thrilling, that's what a movie should be guiding us into a whirlwind of emotions through the choices of it's characters, both greatness and folly captivated into one amazing picture with a fucking awesome theme.^^

It´s kind of hard to pick just one title out of so many but if someone would ask me to do it, i would say that Force Majeure is THE movie 2014

Guess Sophie will have to go to vocal training to get rid of her accent. Unless they plan on making her British.

Finally watched Interstellar, it was ok, some really noteworthy scenes but also unnecessarily cheesy moments but like most of the time, not worth the hype.

restarted my netflix again to catch up on stuff I wanted to watch but that is too pricey on digital services to buy even for streaming. Any suggestions, I picked these first since, they were suggested by the auto algorithm.

I'm usually not a stickler for hard science in films, but Lucy really annoyed me for some reason...just so ridiculous

I enjoyed This Is Where I Leave You. Kind of corny in parts, but was still pretty funny and charming.

My high school friends and I will hangout later. And they wanted to watch a movie. The choices are Annie, American Sniper, Mortdecai and Taken 3. Shit!

American Sniper :notsure
Directed by: Clint Eastwood
Screenplay by: Jason Hall (Based on American Sniper by Chris Kyle, Scott McEwen, Jim DeFelice)
Starring: Bradley Cooper, Sienna Miller

:notsure = Didn't hate it enough to give it a :no and didn't like it enough to give it a :thumbs

It's a racist propaganda film at the same time it's a good movie that tackles Posttraumatic stress disorder.

The story of an American troop troubled by a very-skilled enemy sniper of this movie reminded me a lot of Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket. And of course Full Metal Jacket is superior.

Bradley Cooper's performance is good but I don't think it's Oscar Nominee level. I think the movie is overrated mostly because it's an Oscar Best Picture nominee this year.

If you're an extremely patriotic pro-war American you'll love this movie just like how Hitler loves the Nazi Propaganda film, Stolz der Nation (Nation's Pride) in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds.

Why did the early parts of this trailer remind me of Interstellar?

Also as another site's headline wrote, "Is Fantastic Four trying to hide the fact it's a superhero movie?!"

As far as I understand the fantastic 4 are not in on themselves superheroes. Rather their thing is adventuring and sciencing stuff. The superhero stuff comes in between. I also got the interstellar vibe from it... but it seems grittier too. Dunno what to make of the trailer to be honest. They should have skipped the origin story, its not like we don't know it already. They changed it but whats the point?

Actually I just finished watching Boyhood...

Well if it isn't Linklater... and Ethan Hawke. Hmm. What can I say... uh.. pretty fascinating watching the boy grow up and watching all the characters grow boobs, flabs, wrinkles, etc. in their most natural state- that in itself is pretty awesome. Otherwise it's a pretty muted film that encapsulates a boy's life in a little less than 3 hours. it's like reading a short story but not really, you know?

No exact climax, and no denouement either. I didn't even know how the story would turn out, or how they would even wrap up the ending... which was apparently how some of the actors felt- they didn't want to end it because it had been a part of their life for so long, lol. But the title was apt, and the message hit home base.

I have watched 20 of them, it´s not that good of a list though if you ask me but well, it is pretty hard to cover 5 years with just 25ish titles

I appreciate the movie for what it is and for what Linklater was trying to do but to be honest, i could never empathize with the boy and the way he grew up, maybe because his life was so fundamentally different to mine in that period of time and not having that nostalgic flair was the deciding factor for me to not like it as much as other people.
