Good? Yes. Slam Dunk good? Nope dont see it.Sharkbait's hyperbole aside, I really do believe that HZ has the potential to be a masterpiece/legacy Jump sports series along the lines of Slam Dunk, Rookies, or Eyeshield 21. It's pretty damn great so far, and I'm somebody who is way to cynical and critical of Jump series.
I think Haikyuu !! is great, but the Slam Dunk storytelling is something that I haven't yet seen anyone from Jump able to do the same. Inoue transported me into the basketball court.Haikyuu!! is the best example of good execution from a sports manga, it is in pair with Slam Dunk for me.
And Hinomaru, on the other hand... ?I don't quite understand all the praise for the series as I personally find it generic to a fault. It's not a bad series by any means, and has a really incredible art style and great panelwork and character designs, but the plot and characters are completely by the numbers, and the writing is relatively bland imo so it doesn't feel fresh at all and just like every other sports series I've read before.
Same could be said about parts of Bokuhero with its shounen cliches played by the number, etc and look how amazingly that one is doing.I don't quite understand all the praise for the series as I personally find it generic to a fault. Haikyuu has yet to have its best games, it is doing great so far, but the author always saves the best to the end. XDI think Haikyuu !! is great, but the Slam Dunk storytelling is something that I haven't yet seen anyone from Jump able to do the same. Inoue transported me into the basketball court.
Only facts in this post. It's the old story: it's not WHAT you do, but HOW you do.
Is incredibly fresh and has an energy and atmosphere to it that is severely lacking in Haikyuu.I think Haikyuu !! is great, but the Slam Dunk storytelling is something that I haven't yet seen anyone from Jump able to do the same. Inoue transported me into the basketball court.

The problem is that, so far, its sales don't help it. Do you think it's possible for it to highly improve its sales? It sells just the same as Kurogane, Enigma and Magico did at the same point...Sharkbait's hyperbole aside, I really do believe that HZ has the potential to be a masterpiece/legacy Jump sports series along the lines of Slam Dunk, Rookies, or Eyeshield 21. I think it's definitely possible with a good anime adaptation. The problem is that, so far, its sales don't help it. Do you think it's possible for it to highly improve its sales? It sells just the same as Kurogane and Enigma did at the same point...
I'm asking that because, even if is ranks allow it to survive, it's unlikely that Shueisha will be interested in investing in the series if its sales don't get better.
A good anime adaptation depends on the success that the series got until that point. Series got good studios and good budget because they are already popular before the anime.I think it's definitely possible with a good anime adaptation.
Not really, you are talking about a equation that's just not true. Examples are One Piece and World Trigger. Sales have little[or rather nearly nothing] to do with the end result of the anime, it's depending on the studio willing to adapt and their budget allocation.A good anime adaptation depends on the success that the series got until that point. jojo's bizarre adventure first season has very low budget for manga that have sold 90 million copiesA good anime adaptation depends on the success that the series got until that point. Series got good studios and good budget because they are already popular before the anime.
As Maxy Barnard has made it clear often enough, it's about Friendship, effort and victory. :PGuys, if you think about it sports manga isn't even about the sport..
It's about the characters, their motivations, stories, relationship between the characters, etc.
I think One Piece anime is fairly good, but... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯Not really, you are talking about a equation that's just not true. Examples are One Piece and World Trigger. The new verison that debuted in 2012? Man, it doesn't look like, the animation was great. The studio really did its job well.jojo's bizarre adventure first season has very low budget for manga that have sold 90 million copies
The animation was anything but great.I think One Piece anime is fairly good, but... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
World Trigger wasn't popular when the anime started, we discussed it here many times.
A good studio will not want to make an anime, even less put a high budget in it, when they are not sure that it is going to make success. A manga that is already popular has more chances to have a popular anime. Bigger profit with less risk. If you are saying that it is wrong, you are saying that the capitalism is wrong in how make money. There are cases where even with a high budget, an anime studio manages to make something bad, in this case we don't ahve much to talk...

Nope, it is not technically good. There are countless stills, rough animations and a large focus on comic style. The new verison that debuted in 2012? Man, it doesn't look like, the animation was great. The studio really did its job well.
