I'm always amazed by these... Just what runs in Big Comic Original or Ciao? Both of those have higher circulation than stuff like Young Jump, Young Magazine and Shounen Sunday? And I barely ever hear about any of the series in Gekkan Shounen Sunday and that does even better. But the magazines with Kimi ni Todoke and Shingeki no Kyojin have such a small circulation in comparison... And there's a good bunch I've never heard of at all.

Shounen Champion seems to be in there twice with different numbers. And Haruta's not there despite getting all that praise from critics this year with Sakamoto Desu Ga and all.
Haruta's changed is name to Fellows if I'm not wrong, but is not there either. I think it doesn't appear because they don't give their data.

It's the other way around, Fellows! changed its name to Harta. I think Fellows!/Harta might just not be on there because it has an unusual publishing schedule; Fellows! was six times a year, Harta is ten times. I might be missing something, but I don't see anything past monthly publication on that chart, since Miracle Jump, Jump NEXT, Young Animal Island, etc. aren't there.
Besides, it's a spinoff of Comic Beam, which would put its circulation numbers so low that they'd be around Ikki level. I'm amazed that magazine still sells so little despite having quite a few renowned series.

Young Jump and Young Magazine used to have higher circulation than Big Comic Original. Circulation has been falling for all three. Young Jump and Young Magazine must have started falling faster after I stopped paying attention. Since I started this thread five years ago, Young Jump has fallen from 851,667 copies per quarter to 609,375. Young Magazine has fallen from 863,500 to 607,920. Big Comic Original's circulation was 784,834, now 648,042. God knows why Young Jump and Young Magazine fell below Big Comic Original, but it's a race to the bottom with no winners.

Big Comic and Big Comic Original are very old magazines, two of the oldest seinen anthologies. They are closely connected, sharing a website, and alternate publication weeks. Both are aimed at older, middle age audiences, similar to Grand Jump. Their youngest readers would still mostly be over thirty. I personally couldn't name any current series, but you'd probably be familiar with many of their completed series. Urasawa Naoki serialized Master Keaton, Monster, and Pluto in Big Comic Original. Golgo 13 is in Big Comic. Gaku, the mountain rescue series, and Dr. Koto's Clinic are better known recent series. Ciao is listed as shoujo, but intended for little girls, roughly between nine and thirteen. It's been the highest circulation shoujo magazine for decades. Betsuma, Kimitodo's magazine, is one of the few manga magazines (of any demographic) not in free fall. Circulation was 260,000 in 2009, still 225,000 in 2014. Bessatsu Shounen Magazine was never really meant to have high circulation. It's a niche publication mostly aimed at sci-fi, fantasy, supernatural, and action fans. Shingeki's success has given circulation a big boost, but it was never intended to compete with magazines like SQ.

Shounen Champion seems to be in there twice with different numbers. And Haruta's not there despite getting all that praise from critics this year with Sakamoto Desu Ga and all.
Kadokawa must not have reported Harta. A lot of magazines are not on the list.

Shounen Ace is the only Kadokawa magazine I see listed. Looks like they did not report circulation for any of their other magazines, including Harta.
Gundam Ace, Asuka, and Newtype are on the list too. There's also Dragon Age, which is usually grouped together with the Ace magazines despite being from Fujimi Shobo. If we're counting all of Kadokawa's subsidaries' magazines and not just Kadokawa Shoten's lineup, then Comic Beam and the Dengeki magazines (Daioh, Daioh G, Maoh, Sylph) should also count. Strange that they didn't report on Young Ace and all the Media Factory magazines, though.

Amended on closer inspection, but... thanks? It's not really strange. All of the publishers leave magazines off, it means a lot of nothing. Ciao was left off for years despite being the top circulation shoujo magazine for so long (it used to be up in the 800,000 range). Kadokawa left Shounen Ace off for years. Not a mystery worth thinking about. Leaving Harta off probably is meaningless. The only real reason to care about magazine circulation is to see how far everything has fallen, what's been falling fastest and find the few, temporary exceptions.

LaLa DX is published six times a year. That's at least one listed magazine published less than once a month.

V-Jump popularity have always fascinated me
What attraction does it have? Everything in it is just a comicalization of an existing game.

Comes with free (and incredibly overpowered) YGO cards.

And promo cards are usually incredibly expensive in the market. You can make money buying just a magazine of 550 yen.

Since when? If you can buy the magazine then the card cost to resell would drop.

Who wouldnt want to read an adaptation of their game/anime?

It depends on the card. If it is a powerful card, the subject of the discussion here, people will not only want to have just one in the deck, but more than one, generally the max permited, three cards, it decreases a lot the number of people who will have the card, 7000~8000 people in a rough calculation. The magazine is sold for a limited amount of time and so the card. After the magazine goes out of print, the unique alternative will be to buy from other people. There will be many people who will not want to sell the card and those who will will put the price at the roof.

yea I kinda figured that they were doing something like that

I wish they offer more stuff to attract people who aren't fans of an existing franchise

From Shuesha Media Guide said:
ゲーム、カード、マンガ、アニメ情報がテーマ。特に人気の大型ソフトと、ジャンプ・キャラのソフトについては他誌ではできない徹底特集を組み、また毎号、攻略冊子やカードの付録がついて少年層に強く支持されています。
"Game, card, manga and anime are the theme. Especially about largely popular software (meaning here game) and Jump character's softwares that cannot be completely featured in other magazine, also every issue, strategy guides books and extra cards to young boys has been strongly supported."

My translation is not the best one, but the Shueisha Guide explains very clearly that it is the objective of the magazine. They are just doing their work.

Yes, I already know that

That doesn't mean they can't have an original series , It's still a monthly shonen magazine

Onmyou Taisenki & Haou Taikei Ryuu Knight proved that

If they had an original series, they might as well put it in a magazine that people actually buy to read original series.

Besides, nobody will send an original series to V-Jump because people know that it is not its focus; it would be either rejected or sent to another magazine.
