I see it as: there's certainly a strong emotional connection with the Sharingan (dunno about the Rinnegan?) and it plays a part in an Uchiha's mental state, but it is not the one deciding factor.

Like so many other things in life, it's not black and white. There's some grey area and variables to consider.

I can agree with that much. I don't see the curse as the only deciding factor, but I certainly see it as a distinct one. Not even the biggest deciding factor. Distinct enough not to ignore though.

So you say but you were arguing as though it is the only factor. You were talking about how Sasuke was destined to turn crazy and screw things up.

First off, I never once said it was the only factor.

Secondly I was only arguing so adamantly because you guys were trying your damnedest to pretend the curse was non-existent. Notice how I didn't write up an entire page filled with manga scans to disagree with Notak? It's because he's being reasonable.

Thirdly, I said nothing of destiny. Only science. I did mention fate, but that was referring to what happens to an Uchiha who acquires the Sharingan through loss.

The mistake you and everyone else keep making is that when I use the term "curse", you think I'm referring to something like Orochimaru's curse seal, or something a witch does with a voodoo doll or something. I'm referring to curse as a malady; a cancer. Something very real they have to deal with. Yes, it's mystical in nature, but it's not definite, nor is it something that can be undone easily. NOR is it easily avoided.

It's a curse in every sense of the word except for the "I put a spell on you" type.

Look at it this way: the Curse of Hatred is to Uchiha... what a family history of early hair loss is to normal people. You have a trait in your genes that says "You're gonna go bald early like your dad and your grand dad and his dad did." It's not set in stone, but it's rooted in science and has to be acknowledged. You can't say "Well, my dad's brother didn't go bald, so I won't either."

The odds aren't with you. It's a possibility, but science says get ready to invest in a few hats.

Why the hell Guys are still fanboying that retarded Tobirama?.
I want people to classify what things should be consider curse which ones not? Uchiha has their sharingan that probably aweakend when the user face with danger or emotional stress but that is not Uchihas only circumstances. Other clan and people also did the same.
Karin aweakend her Uzumaki latent ability when she face emotional stress. Naruto want berserk under same circumstances.
Obito didnt aweakend his sharingan out of negative emotion, Sarada didnt aweakend her sharingan out of negative emotion. So even in the era of war people like Obito aweakend sharingan out of positive emotion. So Tobirama's whole point about Uchihas awakening sharingan when they lost their love ones is proven wrong. As manga pointed out he has seen many people awakening sharingan, he should have seen people awakening sharingan out of positive emotion. So all his analysis about Uchihas are wrong.

That guy was totally biased against Uchihas, so I don't think he has any credibility.

Again no Uchiha ever went to negative side only because he has aweakend sharingan. Madara has sharingan all his life but only went to other side when he realise his clan is in danger and world is filled with hatred, only way out is MT. So I don't where u getting curse part there. Same happen with Obito. Sasuke had all his family butchered yet he was accepting friends and try to protect them unlike Kakashi who was a douche and was ready to leave his comrades for mission. Heck he ignore almost everyone his entire life.
I don't think there is nothing to be consider as curse. Many people are manipulated to wrong side like Kimmimaru, sound 4 many more. It just happen that Uchihas has the power to make influence to the world.

You do realize how weak the evidence proving the curse actually is?

First off, Tobirama claims he knows the truth. Despite his brilliance, he isn't a medical ninja. Secondly, he was INCREDIBLY biased, as he hates the Uchiha clan.

Thirdly we have no explanation from anyone else. Not even the Uchiha's themselves. So there is no confirmation, we're just taking Tobirama's word for it.

Lastly, and most importantly, there are only three examples of Uchiha's falling to the "curse", and in all three situations there were other variables that played big parts in their fall from grace. Additionally, we have three examples of Uchiha's doing the exact opposite of the curse.

So...does this curse affect some and not others? No, in the end, the curse is a bunch of bullshit thought up by Tobirama so he had something to confirm that the Uchiha were bad and so he could justify his prejudice. If we used the actual scientific method on Tobirama's theory (because that's all it was) then we would come to the conclusion that there is no curse.

The Uchiha were simply loving people, when they lost comrades they went through an emotional response (just like any other ninja) and thus activated the Sharigan. With this new found power, they proceeded to kick ass, perhaps even gaining a feeling of invincibility.

The only difference between the Uchiha and everyone else, is that when everyone else lost people they didn't get a power-up, and thus didn't have the means to take revenge like the Uchiha did.

First off, I never once said it was the only factor.
You didn't fully state that but you said
He was designed to make the choices he made.
You're implying that it was when you say he was designed that way. Basically it doesn't matter because there's the curse of hatred and he's 'designed' to make those choices. Even if you argue that you didn't say it was the only factor, you're saying it's important enough to outweigh whatever other factors may exist.

Secondly I was only arguing so adamantly because you guys were trying your damnedest to pretend the curse was non-existent. Notice how I didn't write up an entire page filled with manga scans to disagree with Notak? It's because he's being reasonable.
The curse is not non-existent however, it is not as important as you're making it out to be. The Uchiha are emotional beings who draw their power that way. They have a mechanism in their genes that allows them to draw power even with negative emotions. Drawing power has little to do with the choices they make. You imply that the curse affects them so much that they lose reason and go crazy. That is not the case. The curse is an outlet for them to pour hatred into. The decision to do so lies entirely on the uchiha in question as the curse is incapable of making them hate. Jins face a more dire situation than this. The bijuu allows them to enact their feelings of hatred but that decision still rests on the jin. That's why you have some like kid Gaara and others like Naruto and Bee. It's even worse with Jins because the bijuu are actual sentient beings that can control them and are actively manipulating or goading them. The existence of a curse has nothing to do with the actions and decisions Sasuke took. This is the part you're ignoring.

Thirdly, I said nothing of destiny. Only science. I did mention fate, but that was referring to what happens to an Uchiha who acquires the Sharingan through loss.
Well destiny and Fate are synonymous but no problem.

That was indeed what you implied not what was mistaken. Anyway the concept you're using here is one similar to power/money corrupting people. The power isn't to blame, rather it is the person who succumbs to it. The power in this case would be the the sharingan. Seeing as it feeds of emotion, growing hatred increases it's power. The fact that Uchiha keep going down this route because it grants them more power to act on this hatred is in their hands. The sharingan or curse is incapable of manipulating the uchiha. You could simply just call them power-hungry fellows and when you give the option of growing in power via hatred to such people (who have already encountered loss), well, the outcome is simple. This is proven most when Obito explained to Naruto back after he had a chat with Sasuke. When he exhausts an option, Sasuke would simply turn his hatred to something else no matter how fickle. You have to understand that this is not because the curse is doing anything to him. He simply realized that he would grow stronger with hatred due to the sharingan and continued down that path and also due to being manipulated by numerous people for majority of his life that he begins to think in a twisted way. Still even normal Uchiha would never get to that psychotic level. Sasuke, Madara and Obito only did so because in addition to undergoing severe trauma, they were actively manipulated by others until they lost themselves.

No, it's not like that. What would be more accurate is that the family line all loved smoking because they enjoyed it and thus ended up with cancer and then the loss of hair. The curse (if it can even be called that) isn't nearly as definitive as you're implying.

Process is: Uchiha naturally loves ->Uchiha becomes emotionally negative due to circumstances-> Uchiha gains power from said negative emotions-> Uchiha gets manipulated by 3rd party-> Uchiha is full on crazy.

The only part the curse plays is that they get power from negative emotions. It has nothing to do with the choices they make or actions they take. The reason why most uchiha only get as far as the 2nd/3rd step is because there's no one edging them on to do crazy things and they haven't had such tragic loss that would affect anybody and make them change their take on life.

I still think the whole Uchiha curse is bullshit, and that there's no emotion crap. What Tobirama stated was an unfounded theory based on fear and assumption. All of the Uchiha that went crazy went crazy due to various reasons, not just one reason.

Madara didn't go crazy even after his brother's death. He was still willing to truce with the Senju even though Uchiha had to force him to do it, and Madara was perfectly happy with everything until he overheard Tobirama talk to Hashirama and thought Tobirama as a hokage will destroy Uchiha or force them into submission. After the Uchiha turned their backs on him, he settled on achieving peace through genjutsu/violence, come what may. He and Izuna did not trust the Senju, and it seems like they had a good reason. Danzou likely orchestrated the Uchiha's death, from Kyuubi coming free to blaming the Uchiha to forcing Itachi to kill the Uchiha.

Itachi didn't go crazy at all, he was still about Konoha and his brother. Though I suspect Konoha would not have been safe if Sasuke died.

Sasuke didn't go crazy or full crazy. He lost his family at the hands of his brother, a traitor, for no good reason. Then he found out his brother was working for Konoha and led a shitty life for Konoha's sake, and that Itachi died suffering for years, all for Sasuke, and because of Konoha's lust for power. Even then, he confirmed the story with Danzou and talked to Itachi and calmed down, eventually turning good again. He's been through a lot, far more than Naruto, probably comparable to Hashirama and Madara.

Obito is a dumbass though.

The Uchiha that sided with Madara were because they thought or were aware that Tobirama was against the Uchiha and was prejudiced. They went from accusing Madara of being power hungry to believing he was right. The Uchiha that was planning a coup d'etat did so because they were unfairly blamed for the Kyuubi incident and had their political say and equality stripped from them, and the elders refused to give it back because they were corrupt and power hungry, while Danzou likely wanted to kill the Uchiha for his own gain. So while the Uchiha did make their own choices, it was because of the elders and the hokage.

Some evidence is better than no evidence. Which is what everyone trying to refute me has offered up: opinions and misunderstandings. I'm the only one in here with any sort of canon reference, so I'm the only one in here who's opinion is worth dick.

First off, Tobirama claims he knows the truth. Despite his brilliance, he isn't a medical ninja. Secondly, he was INCREDIBLY biased, as he hates the Uchiha clan.
Tobirama doesn't have to be a medical ninja: he's a genius. He created the most complex non-doujutsu techniques in the whole manga (Hiraishin, Kage Bunshin, AND Edo Tensei). This proves his understanding of chakra as well as the human body, as he had to learn to reanimate corpses as well as manipulate chakra beyond that of simple shape manipulation and elemental reconstitution. Tobirama's a genius.

As for the bias, so? That means nothing if he can prove his claims. Hashirama never once claimed his brother was lying, he only claimed that he didn't want to hear his words. And that's because HE wanted to ignore the curse just like you guys do.

Thirdly we have no explanation from anyone else. Not even the Uchiha's themselves. So there is no confirmation, we're just taking Tobirama's word for it.
As opposed to who's word? Yours? Holt's? M3J's?

Because what you guys say is canon, but what the actual characters in the manga say aren't?

Lastly, and most importantly, there are only three examples of Uchiha's falling to the "curse", and in all three situations there were other variables that played big parts in their fall from grace. Additionally, we have three examples of Uchiha's doing the exact opposite of the curse.
Only three examples!?!

http://www.mangapanda.com/naruto/619/13 "You know it too." Hashirama doesn't deny it later. While that's not proving Hashirama knows of the Uchiha condition; the Curse of Hatred, it implies it.

http://www.mangapanda.com/naruto/619/15 Sasuke asks what Tobirama means by possessed by evil. Hashirama bows his head in defeat, allowing Tobirama to tell Sasuke the truth (if it was a lie, why did he allow him to continue, knowing that Tobirama would puss out if he flexed his chakra?)

http://www.mangapanda.com/naruto/619/17 "When an Uchiha (didn't say some, said an, as in ANY) has known love and loses it, it turns into an even greater hatred and changes that person." See that? CHANGES THEM. The person themselves alter. That's borderline mind control for fucks sake!!

"I have seen that many times." As opposed to fucking three. Many times.

http://www.mangapanda.com/naruto/619/18 "All most all of the ones who experience strong feelings are captured by darkness and turn evil." Almost all.

As opposed to fucking three.

There's not a single thing you can say that refutes any of this in the slightest. In the slightest.

The Uchiha were simply loving people, when they lost comrades they went through an emotional response (just like any other ninja) and thus activated the Sharigan. With this new found power, they proceeded to kick ass, perhaps even gaining a feeling of invincibility.
No. You cant read the manga and still come to this conclusion. You're simply wrong. Blatantly so. Only reason I'm even still humoring you guys is because I had no idea there were this many people who just decided it's okay to cut out an important part of the manga, and I want to find out why you're doing it.

Tobirama isn't omniscient, and so far, his theory proves him wrong. Even though tons of Sharingan Uchiha experienced loss from the war, all of them bar Madara wanted to truce with Senju and form Konoha, even supporting the reason why Senju were superior as hokage (Hashirama, in case my unproofread sentence confuses you). Despite their history and Madara claiming so, the Uchiha never believed that Senju would betray them or be uncooperative to the point that they accused Madara of being power hungry, and it wasn't until Tobirama took action that they began to believe Madara.

If the curse of hatred was true, then they would not bother to truce with Senju, they would keep fighting with them. If the curse of hatred was true, then they would pull a coup d'etat once Tobirama started taking action against the Uchiha and segregating them. There seemed to be no anger on the Uchiha's side, nor hatred strong enough to keep warring and taking losses as opposed to truce. We only have three examples of curse of hatred, and even then it took a lot to get to that point. Madara lost his brothers, but he didn't succumb to hatred until he overheard Tobirama. Sasuke lost his family, but he didn't fully succumb to hatred as Naruto and Sakura managed to change his view until Itachi and Orochimaru, and Sasuke was still confirming Tobi's story with Danzou and Itachi.

Tobirama is a genius, but how do we know that he isn't full of shit from bias? Hashirama's silence may imply that Tobirama is somewhat right, but neither provided any other Uchiha who fell to the curse of hatred. I see no reason to believe Tobirama's words when the manga shows otherwise. Hell, for all we know Madara is why Hashirama believes in the curse of hatred thing.

I don't take characters' words as 100% canon, I take action and physical proof as canon. Tobirama could say 90% of the Uchiha were against peace, but that would be incorrect when we see 99% of the Uchiha for peace and truce. Which would you believe?

I thought it was pretty clear that Tobirama had a bias against the Uchiha. Probably shouldn't take everything he says super seriously.

It's like listening to an old, racist man talk about how black people are prone to violence.

Of course he was biased against the Uchiha. That's what caused him to view even the ones that weren't Sharingan wielding ninja as threats. He was a devious bigot, and I don't agree with the idea that all Uchiha were ticking time bombs. I do agree with the idea that all Uchiha who gain the Sharingan have the potential to fall to the curse of hatred though. Not just from what we've seen, but because everything we've read that comes from the history of ninja and the Uchiha, as well as Tobirama's experiments give weight to the argument.

And the difference between the old racist and Tobirama is they likely didn't have African American corpses in their basement that they used for experiments. Experiments that lead them to believe blacks were prone to violence because they found the exact part of their brain that only that race has that causes one to want to commit violent acts.

Not just from what we've seen, but because everything we've read that comes from the history of ninja and the Uchiha, as well as Tobirama's experiments give weight to the argument.
That's thing though, we know nothing about his experiments or the methods he used. His bias could have easily clouded the results of said experiments, especially if it was only based on the body of Madara and no one else. Madara was exposed to Black Zetsu and was transmigrant of Indra. It's possible that the "evil chakra" he sensed in Madara was nothing more the manifestation of Indra (see Black Zetsu's) will in his body.

And the course of Ninja history would speak to the exact opposite of Tobirama's argument, that the Uchiha were manipulated by Black Zetsu from the beginning, and that Madara, Obito and Sasuke were a product of manipulation and a larger plan, not a product of some curse.

Hell, we have just as many instances of good Uchiha's (Kagami, Shisui and Itachi) as we do "bad" Uchiha (Madara, Obito and Sasuke). Not to mention, all the bad Uchiha's conquered the "curse" eventually.

You then have the evidence of the entire Uchiha clan minus Madara taking Hashirama's side and moving for peace. Mind you, these were the Uchiha who had been fighting the Senju for years, who lost countless loved ones. And yet the entire clan sans one man didn't fall to any sort of madness. That man mind you, was being manipulated by Black Zetsu and had lost more than most.

So if all you can point to are some half assessed experiments by the most biased individual there could possibly be, and you ignore all the evidence to the contrary, your argument doesn't hold much weight.

Not only Uchihas but every ninja who has face the emotional trauma like Uchihas has affinity to fall to negative side.
No Uchiha has ever been fall to negative side the moment he away his sharingan. Atleast I don't remember any. Madara aweakend sharingan while trying to protect his bother, he didn't fall for bad side.
Obito aweakend while trying to protect his friends, again out of positive emotion.
Sasuke aweakend sharingan when he saw his family got killed. Negative emotion but didn't fall to bad side. He was accepting his comrades and fighting with them.
Sarada aweakend out of her love of Sasuke.
And Itachi, kagami, shisui are all known as Uchiha who has love the village more than anyone.
So there are many, actually every events disagree with Tobirama's statement. There is nothing call curse clan. If you think Black Zetsu was the curse then still it disagree with Tobirama who tell curse was in their genes.
We have no idea what kind of experiments he does but he was biased against Uchihas. And his statement has been proven wrong in almost every events that occur in the manga. So arguing Uchiha is cursed clan based on his statement doesn't hold any credibility.

So there's basically four different points of view.

1: Those that hate Sasuke or any Uchiha characters believe the curse is fake because they don't like the idea of Sasuke, Madara, or Obito not being held responsible for their actions.

2: Those that like Sasuke and aren't too biased to see reason believe the curse is real because there have been canon implications of it's existence (that's me).

3: Those that like Sasuke too much believe the curse is fake because they can't STAND the idea of Sasuke not having complete control over himself, or being a victim of any design other than his own (i.e, curse of hatred, exploitation by Itachi and then Obito).

4: Those that dislike Sasuke also believe the curse is real because they're in love with the concept of Sasuke forever being a bat-shit insane pawn, always manipulated and guided due to his inability to control his emotions, and now they have canon proof that he and his ilk are predisposed to fuck-nuttery.

Am I missing any? I didn't bother listing the "People that don't believe the curse exists because they have canon proof that it doesn't", because such a person doesn't exist.

You're under the impression that anyone going against your views or interpretations 'hate' sasuke. Liking/disliking Sasuke has very little to do with the matter.

I did. I'm telling you that the basing this on who likes/dislikes Sasuke and assigning reasons for that makes no sense. If you wanted to be taken seriously, you would have left that out.
