I dunno how well a series about a guy with a god complex that kills people would work as a slapstick kids manga. But I'd be willing to give it a shot.
Warner Bros. ALREADY made a live-action movie trilogy. And there was a TV anime movie. And a full anime. And a bunch of novels. And a bunch of games.

Maybe they're making an anime movie trilogy like WB did with Berserk?

No, no manga sequel. There's is absolutely nothing left to do in that universe.

Mononofu Raw. It certainly has more character early on then Best Blue. It has some whimsy qualities to it and you can tell this is a work from a mangaka with experience. It is certainly influenced though by other series running in Jump. Let's see how they handle the eventual competition aspect

What i've taken from Mononofu Raw ( i don't know Japanese) .

Protagonist studies his to get into his dream school but didn't .
He is a loner.
When he plays Shogi, he realizes he has talents .
6 characters introduce at the beginning .

Character's design and personalities:
Protagonist's design is like a combination of Souma from Shokugeki no Souma and Raku from Nisekoi.
His face is boring
Glasses guy is like Satoshi from Shokugeki no Souma.
His school outfit is a typical Japanese school outfit.
Two heroine ( although the other one looks like a tomboy). The orange hair girl look like a typical tsundere ( i might be wrong)

Mononofu ch 1 was actually pretty amazing, depending on the next few chapters I think it might do pretty well (I finally understand the overall rules of shogi thanks to it XD)
Here's a short spoiler of ch 1
The MC (Shinobu) is a guy who's about to enter high school, he's got lots of problems:
-His mom died when he was young only telling him to keep moving forward
-His father remarried and his step-mom is pretty strict in a bad way towards him
-He thinks he's slow on the uptake since he can't manage what others can do pretty easily (he studied a lot yet he couldn't get in his first choice school while some other easygoing guys managed)

He gets into a shared apartment with a cheap rent since he couldn't get into the school dorm, the apartment was actually supposed to be only for people aiming to be professional shogi players but the mediator didn't get that part and Shinobu got in being a complete beginner

He lives with 3 other guys and 2 girls

After some drama related to Shinobu's studying issues, the owner-ish guy teaches him the overall rules and starts giving him some end-game puzzles, the puzzles gradually increase in difficulty until it's so hard all the other guys are really surprised he could manage to solve them

They all praise Shinobu for this and hold a welcome party for him, in the end, Shinobu decides to aim to be a professional shogi player too.

Yep. It does things that Best Blue lacked in its first chapter. This could be a hit.

I liked Mononofu's first chapter, mostly its characters though, the shogi part didn't seemed quite "epic" though that's probably due the guy being a beginner and not showing the best guns right away.

Instead of doing new things they keep recycling old series....
Am I the only one that is not happy with a future Death Note "sequel"?

Oh yeah, weren't there rumors of a Hollywood Death Note movie a while back? Maybe that's what it is.

No, no manga sequel. There's is absolutely nothing left to do in that universe.
I also want Obata and Obha to work on new stuff, but that's bullshit. There is an infinite amount of content in that universe, Obha's writing isn't character-dependent. It's true that L/Light's rivalry was his masterpiece, but in part II he showed he has no problem making a bunch of engaging characters and scenarios around the Death Note premise. (Not to mention Bakuman where he also showed he can keep a million rivalries strong and exciting for 20 volumes)

Basically I'm sure Obha could come up with plenty of new characters in that world which could be super interesting to read about, albeit not as masterfully as DN's pt.I, I'm sure he could keep up the pt.II quality forever. The premise just lends itself to endless stories. It even makes sense in terms of plot: As of the ending, Ryuk is sitting bored on his ass just like the beginning. It is totally logical he would start causing chaos in the Shinigami realm, or lend his notebook to the humans again. In fact, it makes even less sense to assume his life was uneventful.

But yeah:
1. New stories with death notes and humans, easily done via Ryuk's boredom
2. New stories in the Shinigami realm, easily done via Ryuk's boredom. We can explore the world's mechanics, rules, and culture, which were only very lightly touched upon in the original story.
3. New stories with humans but with old characters: L has two decades years of mystery-solving prior to the main story starting. Near has his whole life ahead of him. These characters are a goldmine for interesting writing by Obha, whether there's a death note involved or not.

Basically I agree with you that they should move on from DN, but it is criminally inaccurate to suggest the world doesn't have more interesting stories to offer.

The latest Death Note live action TV show was pretty good compared to the first live action movies. It is a decent J-drama
