How would a jump one shot start a trend? I dont remember Best BLue starting a swimming manga trend.
Maybe I'm way off base, but Best Blue seemed to be an attempt to piggyback off the popularity of Free!. Even if it was a hit, it wouldn't have been a trendsetter.

Just a question.... How likely is it that KyoAni will pick up MHA? Are they associated with TOHO? I dunno about you guys, but I have this funny feeling they're going to pick it up.

Well, there's Uraraka and Froppy, and Deku to an extent.... It's a little bit up their alley, to be fair. This, along with the upcoming FMP anime, could really raise their profile again. MHA is a good middleway between the moefest that KyoAni's been churning out the past decade and great action that FMP was famous for.

On one hand, I'd be happy to see cult classic FMP airing alongside MHA. It's like seeing a passing of the torch from one generation to another between the two. On the other hand, I'd have mixed feelings about it. I mean, they literally threw the FMP/action fans in the back burner for a decade to cater to the otaku crowd, and only now they're digging us back out. It's worth assuming that something smells fishy if this scenario is true.

There have been talks how the industry is in a state of decline, is it possible that their otaku market is dwindling? If this is true, the fact they're digging FMP back out after abandoning it for a decade feels like a desperate effort. Even moreso if they're trying to get what amounts to possibly be the next Naruto.

Just my personal feelings..... I feel like we're being treated like dirt if that's the case. We're pretty much like a kid born out of wedlock that KyoAni doesn't want to even know until they're desparate enough.

This is purely baseless speculation and me going off an a wild tangent, though. So just take it with a grain of salt.

We don't even know yet if the new Full Metal Panic series will be animated by Kyoto Animation...

Yeah, but there are too many ifs in there if you ask me...
We should wait for an official announcement (-> Full Metal Panic) by Kyoto Animation to use this as a reason/argument for a potential animation of Boku no Hero Academia by them.

The last action series by Kyoto Animation dates from 2005 (the second season of Full Metal Panic) since then there series were either moeshit or fujoshishit. After 10 years they need to proof that they can still deliver a good action series.
Boku no Hero Academia & (sadly) Black Clover are the future of Weekly Shounen Jump. I guess they either choose the easy way with Toei Animation (which seems out) & Studio Pierrot or they choose a studio which has allready demonstrated that they can deliver.
The spring season 2016 would be the soonest date for the new Full Metal Panic anime (if it's done by Kyoto Animation) but April 2016 is also the most probable season for the Boku no Hero Academia anime.

I strongly disagree with this. As much as I loved FMP I don't like people calling the most recent Kyoani shows "moeshit" or "fujoshishit" because they looked good or had an almost one gender cast. Free! was a great sport series with colorful characters and a good emotional story. Same way with Euphonium that really nailed with realism what loving music and instruments means. Amagi was hilarious and had really good humor, something that most anime nowadays sadly doesn't have. Yeah the second season of chuunibyou wasn't so great but still the first was really good. And I can tell you that the upcoming movie adaptation of Silent Voice should be great.

About MHA I just want a good adaptation regardless of the studio.

Very unlikely as it ain't the kind of shows that KyoAni does nowadays (which is mostly SoL and series with a lot of SoL elements).

Are we for some reason forgetting the 2013 anime Beyond the Boundary(Kyōkai no Kanata) made by Kyoto Animation?

Also Kyoto Animation never done a Weekly Shonen Jump title, I don't think they will start with a action series like My Hero Academia, but let's wait and see.

I really hope MHA anime is saved for Fall while Shokugeki gets a second season announced with the upcoming OVA next week and of course a good studio for MHA. Kyoani should, if any, do Sesuji if it gets an anime in the future yet leave the WSJ pillars to those who know how to address such series, Madhouse or Sunrise.

Don't get me wrong. I liked a lot of Kyoto Animation shows, is it Clannad After Story, Haruhi, K-ON, Nichijou, Amagi Brilliant Park, even the Tamako Market movie was nice.
Chuunibyou was an enjoyable anime but a bad adaptation.
(@Bigivelfhq: Kyoukai no Kanata was one of the worst shows by Kyoto Animation if you ask me)
But you cannot deny that the otaku (beacuse of the "moeshit") and the fujoshi (Free franchise) are there target - not the typical 14years old boy.

I am not that sure about Koe no Katachi movie but we will see.

Has jump ever announced an anime that early? Fall is three seasons from now, thats really far away.

Are you seriously thinking that KyoAni might animate BnHA ? Even as a phantasm it's ridiculous.

Since 2012, Toho have been associated with:
- Production I.G (Psycho-pass, Haikyuu)
- TMS (Yowamishi Pedal)
- White Fox (Akame ga Kill)
- Bones (Kekkai Sensen)

Also, Toho is only a distributor. Their job is to promote the anime like creating a website, nothing else.

Yeah they are surely a part of the target but I think that this alone doesn't led to success. I've seen a lot of anime that could appeal to otaku or fujoshi doing really bad in BD/dvd sales or in general because imo they didn't have good stories or characters. i just assumed that since you used those terms you were saying that those shows were bad only because of their supposed target audience; if I got you wrong then sorry.

Kyoani doing a manga adaptation like Silent Voice is already surprising (it's a movie though). So there is a possibility that they could do some jump adaptation in the future.

Exactly. If the scenario I posited is true, it's like they're just switching back to our target demographic out of desperation, if not merely pragmatic. But even then, it paints them in an unfavorable light because they think of the shonen action demographic as something closer to midnight leftover grub, when in fact that demographic was the one that got them to where they are now.

It is a ridiculous idea, I fully admit. But the fact that FMP is getting another adaptation, and if they pick up MHA at (around) the same time. The timing for gaining a new momentum cannot be a coincidence.

Another important thing to consider is the time its aired. I know its being aired on Nico Nico but on 2ch theres speculation that if its not a late night anime it'll be a nichigo anime like Haikyuu and in the vein of FMA. If Bones gets it, it might be a 日5 anime. Late night anime, while it will give it a boost, will probably not make it big on the level of Naruto or atleast close to that level which is what Jump is trying to promote it to.

iceemperor,
I don't think think that manga boost depends that much on airing time.
Shingeki and Tokyo Ghoul aired at late night slot and still had a boost equal or even higher than nichigo animes.
