At least it makes the hook interesting, as opposed to 99% of other leads where it's just world building and bland character stares into the sky or camera.

this post is soooooo edgy

jk, personally I use the term edgy to call stuff that's is dark/depressing/excessively use shock value & gore/have emo protagonist etc...
the magazine have recently started multiple series that fell under that category in row (Yami Abaki Kurau Miko, Platinum End, Shonen Shojo), not to mention that the 2 flagship series of the magazine OnS & BLue Exorcist don't lack any of those qualities either.

what I'm trying to say is people calling the magazine edgy is justifiable

are you talking about shonen shojo? the raw were leaked online a couple of days ago & I think the good people in 4chan translated them

It seems that it is the same as Jump with adventure and battle mangas, since the most popular manga are from these genres, they will probably add more series from these genres to see whether the success repeat itself or not. It is normal, it makes part of the market, but at Shonen Jump as well as Jump SQ it doesn't look like that there is a lacking of other genres, so it is fine by me. Also, I don't have anything against "edgy" mangas, particularly, I'm even enjoying Platinum End, so...

They just finished an arc where the girls use virtual reality to see what they'll be like as teenagers, I'll leave the rest to your imagination.
As for the other series, Teiichi is very popular in Japan, it's gotten multiple stage plays and movies. It's also one of the longest series in the magazine, and (I think) the author's longest series, so he probably wants to end it himself. People in the West just don't care about it because the subject matter is very Japanese-specific, plus it looks pretty much impossible to edit so no translations. Gakumon will probably end just because the author doesn't really do long series, though I'm still amazed he didn't save last month's chapter for the ending, it really would have been the perfect final chapter.

I wish for a new series from Norihiro Yagi (could you guys believe an year have passed since claymore ended?) & new series from Makoto Raiku (i read on 4chan a while back that he said he was preparing a new series, i don't know if that was true or just a 4channer trolling)
