the idea of Israel being able to do anything is largely a myth.
They do get away doing anything in the Palestine territory. And there are a lot of accusations against Israel in that topic. Although I don't know how much of it is true. But definitely they could do better regarding this issue.
The simplification of Israel bombing the gaza Region without any reason is absolutely invalid.
But Israel bombing gaza and sometimes providing collective punishments, destroying houses, are not justified either.

Israel is actually blocked a two state solution by building settlements. Now a 2 state solution would mean Israel giving up those settlements. And a one state solution is not an option either. These two groups of people have decades of hatred towards each other. A one state solution would result in a civil war. Currently I don't really see any solution which would be acceptable to both parties. Israel is alright with this no solution though.

Is it tho? We were talking about how the US president should or should not Support Israel, so i think this is a Topic which can be discussed.
It should be in Israel-Palestine conflict thread. This has little to do with European politics.

The Thing is that there is no Country coming to mind that does not get away with something like that.
Morrocco does it in the Westsahara. Saudi arabia does it in yemen. We got a lot of examples like that in africa. We also have examples in asia like in burma.
And most of those countries are not US allies. And most of them are a lot more radical than Israel is.
We tend to Forget that arab People live in Israel outside of gaza, it is not like that is impossible. You will however have a hard time Outing yourself as a jew in palestine and getting out alive.
There IS a lot untrue accusations, and there are also a lot of true ones. But We have to Keep in mind that it is not only Israel attacking.
ISrael is getting bombed, civillians are knived down. It is hard to have peace with People whose Goal is to end the existence of your Nation.
Even if Israel withdrew completely from gaza, called all settlers back and Held ist feet still, it is very unprobable that the attacks would stop.
But Israel bombing gaza and sometimes providing collective punishments, destroying houses, are not justified either.

Israel is actually blocked a two state solution by building settlements. Now a 2 state solution would mean Israel giving up those settlements. And a one state solution is not an option either. Collective punishment is never justified, bombing however can be. As i said: What else can Israel do when they are attacked by Missiles? They have to destroy the tunnel Systems and Depots of terrorists, and the terrorists are hiding them in public to gain public sympathy.
If the Israelis had a solution not giving them flack, you can bet they would do it.
A two state solution is difficult because it would mean that every time there are Missile attacks from gaza, Israel basically has to attack another state when it tried to retaliate. And once again: It is unlikely the hamas will ever accept the existance of Israel.

I agree that there is no feasible solution on the mid term.

It should be in Israel-Palestine conflict thread. This has little to do with European politics.
Maybe, i will open one and then merge this post into that one.

Wait i cannot do that on this subforum. I feel impotent and sad now. Anyway, instead i will copy what i wrote into the other thread let further discussion take place in the other thread.

Hillary's foreign policy looks more aggressive than Obama's. She wants ground troops in some places in ME, i read. This might create some problems in the future.

Since when did Donald Trump start representing US? :cookiestare
Obama wanted Britain to stay in EU and he represents America as president more than Trump. Which didn't happen. I doubt America has anything to do with UK leaving EU.

Not all bad. Well some of their policies are when dealing with other countries. And a lot of time their intention are questionable too.
Most likely would. Would give some of these areas more reasons to hate us and go after us.

Don't ask me, a lot of foreigners are calling Americans idiots because of how popular Trump is. We're being judged because Trump is the republican candidate. I'm not talking about US in relation to UK leaving EU though, I don't think the US is related at all to the decision.

Apparently UN also let aid workers in South Sudan get raped and attacked.

Fuck you Milly. Why did you trigger this topic? :shootme
because you touch yourself at night

Turkey
Well, obviously a sovereign Kurdish state wouldn't be only comprised of Turkish territories, but a lot (maybe most) of it would.

Well, I don't see where I was implying that you were racist. I was just asking what your view of it is. Obviously Kurds have their own party and have been brought to the table, so to speak. But from what I can see there is a large portion who want their own sovereign country.
Indeed, they want serious amont of land from 4 country.
All of those borders settled with lot of countries and as far as I know none of those countries ignored kurds or treat them badly. But they want half of turkey, syria, ıraq and ıran... I mean wow...

Don't take it personally, you didn't imply that I am racist, i just wanted say that.

@g01 you keep saying EU, but it's not an EU decision to bomb Syria (or to engage in whatever other conflict) - as shown by the different stands of Germany and France on that matter for example. The EU has barely what you would call an army. The EU itself got caught up into the whole mess because of the refugee crisis, but if anything, I feel like it is actually losing a lot from this conflict, both economically and in popularity.

But does the EU really have such a bad reputation in Turkey? What does the Turkish people think about entering the EU now? I mean, it's a debate that has been lasting for the past 30 years, both parties are not making it easy on the other, and it could be that the general opinion has changed - especially since Erdogan is questionning the interest of an EU membership and that he is so popular as you say.
Lol EU as in european, not european union(sorry I am lazy, EU is far shorter :fail)
Tbh most of people in here never wanted to join. Last time I check only half of the country wants to join (and mostly because erdoğan wanted to join so they too I suppose). Lot of people do not believe that we will join EU... Ever...

Half the country is still a big part of the country ^^. But I think that Turkey won't join the EU any time soon as well, with the Brexit and the situation in Syria + all the points of disagreement between Turkey and the EU. It's a shame though. It would still be interesting to have a referendum on the matter.

It seems AfD did better than Merkel's party in German Regional election.

That's making quite a news

Yes, in a sparsely populated formally eastern German state, that has very little significance in Berlin due to it's 1.6m population. It's quite astonishing nevertheless how people who have hardly seen anything of the refugee 'crisis' in their daily lives (Meck-Pom has a total of 6.000 refugees as of now) could have been mobilized to vote for that brown propaganda machine.

For people outside Germany the media kinda reported in a way that made it look like this is the sign of Merkel's end.
Well far right is enjoying momentum in EU lately. NF had their best result in their party history in France. UKIP is doing better in UK as well. Labour is polling their all time low in recent history.

That is because everyone wants to make it seem that way.
Merkel's pponents can brag now. Those in her Party who were against her refugee plan, and those of opposing parties because there will be an election soon.

It is not really threatening her tho. There is no real alternative to her in her Party, and those who are are loyal to her.
And the SPD is not going to do better.

The numbers of germany's General Bundestag elections look (very reliably) like this:

http://www.wahlrecht.de/umfragen/index.htm

SPD and CDU both suffered from 2009, but Grüne+SPD are never in reach of a necessary majority of votes.
That means there will probably either be a CDU+Grüne or a CDU+SPD government, and both have no real alternative to Merkel.
And even if they had, CDU has the majority of votes in that coalition and wont let someone else get chancellorship in all probablity.

I Really do not see how someone in their right mind can see Merkel not becoming chancellor if she actually tries to be (which is not clear at that Point, admittedly.)

Haven't posted here in a while.
It seems AfD did well in Berlin state election too. Merkel's party not doing exactly well.

In UK Jeremy Corbyn reelected labour leader.

The AfD, at this point, is not the really significant factor. They will have their 8-15% in the big election, but they will have to show that they can actually do political work. And that is very questionable, their efforts so far were not fruitful and they are in constant arguing.
There was however something really significant in the Berlin election: We will have a coalition between SPD, Linke and Grüne.
We had a Spd/Grüne government before, but the Linke is basically the seperated left wing of the SPD. Those guys had issues. While the Linke thinks the SPD is too mainstream and too capitalist, the SPD thinks the Linke are radicals.
However, since they do govern Berlin together with the Greens now, there was a lot of positive feedback from both parties to a possible coalition with the greens in the big election.
And this would be the only real threat to a possible next term of Merkel.
Basically, the only majorities that can happen are SPD+CDU (and it is clear merkel would reign then) or SPD+GRÜNE+LINKE (probably, but not necessarily with Siegmar Gabriel).
That is a much bigger threat to the CDU than the AFD ever was. And ironically it means that all the people who voted AFD instead CDU will get an even more leftist government :p
I will have to work through the night today and thus write a lot in the politics subforum, and after replying to the open threads, i think i will open a thread about the rise of right wingers and extremists and how the moderate forces accidently support it to go into more detail about that.

The social democrates (SPD) said a coalition with DIE LINKE is not an option for the federal election 2017 though, because LINKE strongly denpunce NATO and any military involvement anywhere, which SPD considers a crusial factor for the inner and outer safety. It seems to be that crusial that they puplicly dismiss a possible coalition, which in itself is a very poor campaign for obvious tactical reasons. And I don't see Sahra Wagenknecht (one of two current LINKE's top figures supporting exit out of NATO among others) going anywhere that soon.

I live in Berlin and by all honesty I am not surpised that CDU scored the way they did. Henkel (the region party leader) is a terrible person, very unpopular among the population, and the main factor for the poor result. AfD campaigned very well and got in yes, but not as high as in other regions, still any seat is one seat too much, so yeah.

Indeed. I wonder if this is enough to actually stop brexit though (that should be the endgame of course). It seems like first they have to get the referendum approved which should be difficult. In turn the amount of leverage they get if it is approved is more than significant. Imagine if Scotland does split and brexit happens.... Scotland having access to the EU market and receiving immigrants due would make brexit as a whole moot to the UK. I don't know enough of the situation to know if it warrants cautious optimism though...

They are 'bad' in your words (i would not use such a word in politics) and therefore are sanctioned.
If you ask me, we should enhance the sanctions for their behaviour in syria, but i don't think that will happen.
However, military confrontation with russia is always out of question. No good would ever come out of that.

@kkck By now i think there are two possibilities:
Either they actually do the brexit, OR all what is there atm is a ploy to delay it enough to have public opinion be clearly against it, so they can say they won't do it due to the will of the people.

But May made clear that she intends to have a hard brexit with several ties being cut.

Isn't public opinion against brexit as it is? Brexit won by a very small margin and from what I can tell at least some people have changed their mind about it (and young people in general were never for it). I am not sure just knowing the public opinion has changed is enough here hence the importance of what Scotland is doing (assuming it can be pulled of at all).

Not enough. Britain is still largely divided on brexit, and even those who were against it might find it a farce to ask the people and then change their mind.
If half of your population are convinced that votes are not actually important because politics will do what they want anyway, it is even more devastating than brexit.
The whole brexit happened, in part, because a lot of people thought it won't happen anyway.
All the angry people who are screaming at polish people to go home now will be given validity in ttheir opinions if politics does not respect their vote.
POliticians would only stop the brexit if they are convinced that like 75% of the people are against it.

Fair enough. I wonder how scotland, if it pulls through, will affect public opinion. It would definitely be a dick move on their part in many ways but if they condition their stay in the UK to the UK staying in the EU then it might change some minds. Of course, this would be a lot more chaotic as well. And then you have the "hey, so you are telling me they are defecting the UK and remaining with the EU and keeping access to their market". And I am guessing at least a few companies would think "hey, if we move to scotland now we get to remain in the EU and we can just export to the UK rather than remain in the UK and export to the EU". Thinking about it this could actually turn violent... In the eyes of the UK scotland would be betraying the UK.
