Bloodman > Gajeel

Gajeel only won because he got a one-time power up (ISDM mode), which not just allowed him to hit Bloodman but also made him stronger.

Even before that, Gajeel was on a losing end. He only survived through plot armor.

Alright, well, we'll just disagree there. Really, in a battle, it comes down to the final result.

If both Bloodman and Gajeel die, then it is a stalemate, regardless of what happened during the fight.

And since both Bloodman and Gajeel technically died, then we can't deny those feats, now can we?

DF Gajeel may be stronger than Bloodman, I'm not denying that.

Where I dispute is when you said "Bloodman is the only one that died", which is completely false in my opinion because we do have proof of Gajeel being dead if it weren't for Irene's Universe One.

Read your last sentence again. I'll quote it for you:

"At which point, Bloodman was already dying and resorted to trying to drag an exhausted base-Gajeel into a portal."

Bloodman was the person that exhausted Gajeel... so he deserves the credit of killing Gajeel.

It's not like an "exhausted Gajeel" was handed to Bloodman on a silver platter... Bloodman was the one responsible for exhausting and killing Gajeel.

In other words, he earned it.

Regardless, Bloodman dragging Gajeel down to hell is a feat in itself. And because Gajeel was supposed to die as a result, then there should be no reason why Bloodman should be denied of that feat.

It may be Bloodman's own fault for getting ripped apart...

But it is also Gajeel's fault for getting caught and dragged down into the portal leading to hell.
Gajeel never actually died.
Bradman was about to killed him, but failed because Universe One intercepted his attempt.
I acknowledge that Bloodman would have killed Gajeel if Universe One didn't happen.
But it did, and Gajeel is not dead.

Bottom line was that Gajeel was beating Bloodman in the actual fight, and Bloodman could only go for a double suicide. If Gajeel and Bloodman were to have a rematch right now, Gajeel has the option of running away or hide in the shadows after he destroy's Bloodman's body now that he knows what Bloodman can do. On the other hand, Bloodman literally has no way of fighting Gajeel except to wait for him to stop attacking, let his guard down, and then try to drag him to the underworld. At best, that's Bloodman forcing a stalemate.

Dude, you seem to misunderstand the point.

The whole basis of this comparison between Gajeel and Bloodman was started because members on this forum are trying to power rank them.

When I power rank Bloodman and Gajeel, why would I assume that Irene's Universe One has anything to do with their battle?

The power ranking should be based off of the idea that Irene never interfered with their match.

This is a direct comparison between Bloodman and Gajeel, I don't see what Irene has anything to do with here.

Lol, Gajeel has the option of running away or hiding in the shadows after he destroys Bloodman?

So why does Gajeel have intel of Bloodman, but Bloodman does not have intel of Gajeel?

That is very selective and bias if you ask me.

I could say the same that Bloodman would decide not to unleash any poison particles that way Gajeel cannot absorb them and turn DF.

Then Bloodman would easily slaughter Gajeel...

The way the fight happened in the manga is how it would happen in the most realistic scenario.

Therefore, we take that as our hardcore evidence and proof and judge it from Bloodman's skills and mistakes as well as Gajeel's skills and mistakes.

And as you can see, overall in the battle, Bloodman scored more points because he managed to stalemate with DF Gajeel, and beat Gajeel without DF.

Yes, now that Gajeel knows Bloodman can still try to drag him to the underworld he wouldn't just be sitting there looking at Levy. Bloodman can have intel on Gajeel. Who says he couldn't? That wouldn't change anything. Gajeel would still be stronger and faster than Bloodman. It's not like there's much to know about Gajeel. Bloodman didn't lose because he had no intel. He was simply overpowered. Bloodman is literally made out of the particles. It shouldn't be that hard to swallow a mouthful in the middle of a fight.

How am I being selective?
Black Iron Gajeel was stronger and faster than Bloodman, and ripped him apart.
Bloodman took Gajeel down with him in a suicide attempt.
I'm saying that what Gajeel did to Bloodman was far more impressive than what Bloodman did to Gajeel.
Gajeel doesn't need to die to take out someone of Bloodman's power level.
Bloodman needs to die to take out someone of Gajeel's power level.

No, intel makes a big difference here.

It was Gajeel's fault for not being on guard, he was too overconfident with his DF that he assumed he beat Bloodman, who he knows is made out of MBPs and is a demon...

It was his lack of self-awareness that got Gajeel caught in the trap.

As for Bloodman, he wouldn't let Gajeel snack on his own body... Bloodman is far stronger than Gajeel without DF, he would kill Gajeel before Gajeel ever got close enough.

Not to mention, Gajeel didn't know that eating MBPs would help him turn DF... it was plain luck that Gajeel happened to realize that when Bloodman purposefully gave off his MBPs.

So Gajeel wouldn't randomly eat Bloodman's body because he wouldn't know that it would become an advantage to begin with. Not to mention, that puts his life in a lot of risk.

You have to understand the context here... this battle was heavily based off context... one wrong move and it could have been the end for either of them.

That's where you go wrong.

Gajeel does need to die to take out Bloodman.

Since he vaporized Bloodman's body, Bloodman was able to make a counterattack and kill Gajeel in the process.

So if Gajeel hadn't killed Bloodman to begin with, then Gajeel may not have had to face the portal.

But because Gajeel chose to kill Bloodman and became unaware, Bloodman took the chance to kill off Gajeel simultaneously.

So Gajeel does need to die to take out Bloodman.

Again, I never said Bloodman wouldn't have intel on Gajeel. I'm saying there's nothing that Bloodman can do to stop Gajeel from doing what he does. Gajeel has never had a problem getting close to Bloodman to land attacks. I don't see Bloodman being able to avoid Gajeel from closing the gap on him, especially since Gajeel's ISD can allow him to attack from Bloodman's own shadows. Once he closes the gap, all he needs to do is suck in a bunch of air and chances are he'll absorb some particles. Heck, Gajeel can absorb particles through his skin like what he did with the carbon in tenchi kamei to make steel.

I agree that Bloodman was stronger than Gajeel before the latter ate the particles, but the difference in power wasn't to the point where Bloodman could stomp Gajeel. Ice Devil's Rage was matched by the roar, the explosion curse and slicing curse were tanked, and over skelter was tanked. Gajeel was actually able to close the gap and land hits on Bloodman, they just did no damage because they were physical attacks. I say that Gajeel did about as well against Bloodman as Erza did against Ajeel before she used Neptune God's Sword.

If Gajeel's mistake was killing Bloodman, then all he would have to do is not try to kill Bloodman. He could just beat him up really bad. The bottom line is that in terms of fighting ability, Gajeel was simply outclassing Bloodman. Yes, you can make an argument that Bloodman was able to force a stalemate by dragging Gajeel down to the underworld. However, how relevant is that to Bloodman's power level?

1.) Steel is not the same as Jet Black Iron... totally different

2.) Gajeel doesn't know that the particles would help him. Why would he randomly eat somebody's body in the hopes of getting stronger?

3.) What's Bloodman gonna do when Gajeel is sucking on his body? Watch?

Bloodman would immediately strangle Gajeel's neck for doing something weird as f*ck.

Gajeel won't be able to eat or suck in anything from Bloodman's body because if he takes his attention away from Bloodman for even a second, he is going to get wrecked.

One major thing you have to understand is that not all characters rely on damage output to beat their opponent.

Power level is a collective grouping of a character's attributes. It determines your ranking as a combatant, not physical strength/skill.

Some characters rely on insta-kill abilities or 1HKO attacks to kill their opponents.

They don't intend on giving you a few cuts or bruises to take you down.

That's not the nature of their magic.

This is extremely relevant to Bloodman's power level because it shows how the 2 combatants would fare against one another in a match up.

People with big ass explosions and messed up faces don't determine who is stronger.

Whoever is killed or defeated is the weaker of the two and whoever kills or defeats an opponent is the stronger of the two.

1) Doesn't matter if steel is different from the black iron. The point is that Gajeel can absorb stuff through his skin. If he can absorb carbon through his skin, why couldn't he absorb the iron in the particles? He's an iron dragon slayer after all.
2) Gajeel didn't accidentally swallow the particles. He ingest them purposely, and with the intention of trying to get it to change his magic to effect Bloodman. It paid off, and now he has the knowledge. If he faces Bloodman in a rematch, this would be the first thing he does.
3) Of course Bloodman will try to stop Gajeel. But Gajeel only needs one mouthful, and he's already proven to be able to close the gap and land hits on Bloodman. Thorn Brambles were the only spells that did serious damage to Gajeel, and Gajeel can bite the pain if he has to to close the gap. He just needs to grab a handful of those particles and swallow them.
4) Bloodman's ability is far from a 1 hit or instant kill. His entire arsenal of shown attacks can be tanked or endured.
5) Gajeel's advantages over Bloodman: Vastly superior attack power, overwhelming speed, and ability to tank Bloodman's entire arsenal of attacks.

Fighting ability: Black Iron Gajeel dominates Bloodman. Honestly, Gajeel blitzed him and blitzed him hard. I don't think I'm being unfair or biased when I say black iron Gajeel is much stronger than Bloodman. This should be a no contest. Bloodman couldn't counter attack, block, or even run away. Nobody looking at the fight should come to the conclusion that Bloodman was fighting on an equal footing with black iron Gajeel. It was a stomp.

Overall Result: Bloodman drags Gajeel with him to die. The most you can say is that this means Bloodman at his absolute limits can force a stalemate against Gajeel once the latter drops his guard. What does this tell us about Bloodman's fighting ability? Does this mean Bloodman has strong attacks? No. Does this make mean Bloodman has impressive speed? No. Does this mean that Bloodman has good durability? No.

If that is the first thing that Gajeel does, and you claim that DF Gajeel would win against Bloodman...

Then why didn't Gajeel immediately go Jet Black Iron mode and oneshot Bloodman without dying?

Clearly, he couldn't.

I state my case that DF Gajeel stalemates against Bloodman.

I also state my case that Bloodman > Gajeel without DF.

And last, I state my case that both Gajeel and Bloodman died, not just Bloodman.

I'll let you have the last words, and since you are entitled to your opinions, I will respect that.

As for the rest of your post, I read it, but I still disagree with all of it and, as far as I'm concerned, it will remain that way

I said "in a rematch". That would be the first thing he does in a rematch. In a rematch, Gajeel would just suck the MBPs and proceed to stomp Bloodman. He would also know that Bloodman can try to suck him in after his body gets destroyed, so he can just hide in a shadow.

How does Bloodman stalemate black iron Gajeel? Show me one panel of Bloodman doing anything against black iron Gajeel other than getting hit.

For things like sense stealing, I can buy it maybe if Bloodman used it against base Gajeel in the start of the fight.
This is something I've been meaning to mention, Bradman was either influenced by PIS/CIS (didn't use his best curses) or he started off casually. My argument for the latter is:
As you can see, Bradman hasn't fought properly in a while and outright states that he'll be fighting to his heart's content. THIS is why he didn't start of with his best curses, it was only towards the middle-end of the fight when he began using his best curse (Over Skelter), at which point Gajeel ate the MBP's. Had the battle gone on normally, Bradman would have killed him as Gajeel wouldn't have eaten the MBP's. And Gajeel was clearly at deaths door just before he ate the MBP's, Bradman sent a thorn through him easily.
Once Gajeel was in black iron mode, he was smashing Bloodman before the latter could even react. I don't believe Bloodman chose to let himself die. I believe he couldn't keep up with Gajeel to use a curse. Again, Gajeel could have camped in the shadows to avoid thorns. There's a lot of things characters can do to abuse their abilities. That's usually not how they're portrayed to be. Over Skelter was supposedly a curse stronger than the 9 Demon Gate's'. Only thorns is potentially on the same level.
Had Gajeel camped in the shadows he would have been an idiot, as we've seen Shadows can hit Bradman. Even then, why would he choose to sit in the shadows when Levy is in the vicinity and Bradman is killing those around him via the First Seal?

Over Skelter is technically his strongest curse but, as I mentioned earlier, it isn't anything like a nuke, more than anything it's a trap. The "whirlpool" of skulls is so that the opponent can't escape it whilst they're being drained of life via the skulls and MBP's. Basically it damages over time, if the person (however unlikely) can escape early on like Gajeel then it's no surprise that they won't be affected too badly.

As for JBI/DF Gajeel, yes Bradman couldn't react but in the end Bradman can stalemate that by using his suicide attack. Besides, JBI/DF was a massive (arguably plot induced) power up, he went from being massacred by Bradman to outright blitzing him. But this doesn't matter as he can still stalemate via his suicide attack.
Yes, Gajeel had to eat the particles to be able to hit bloodman. But that's because his element iron limits him to largely an arsenal of physical attacks. A mage with an element that can harm the particles wouldn't need to consume the anti-magic particles to actually be able to hit Bloodman. If that mage was at black iron Gajeel's power level, he would be way stronger than Bloodman. God Serena, for example, wouldn't have this problem as he has water for an element. We know from Juvia vs Keith that water can harm the particles. I actually consider Gajeel's attacks to be stronger than God Serena's.
Being honest I only see one reason why DF Gajeel beat Bradman: speed. We know that Dragon Force amps a characters physical stats like crazy, had DF Gajeel gone a bit slower then I'm of the opinion that Bradman could still have won. Had a mage on the power level of DF Gajeel been up against Bradman then I think the fight would be an extreme-diff fight as it isn't the power that did Bradman in, it was the sheer speed of the attacks.

Keyes vs Juvia isn't the best example, Juvia had to get inside Keyes and destroy him from the inside, the rest of the time Keyes was easily avoiding her attacks. Nothing is stopping Bradman from just doing what Keyes did or Absorbing the souls of spells.

I disagree on God Serena's attacks being weaker than Gajeel, Gildarts hinted that Goddy would have given him a high-extreme diff fight and given that Gildarts can crash spells fairly easily, his attack power must have been high.
You don't have to compete with Laxus' endurance. You just have to compete with Levy's endurance. I'm saying anyone that can fight for as long as Levy can at black-iron Gajeel's level, can probably take out Bloodman provided their magic can actually hit him.
The same Levy who had a mask on during the fight? And even then succumbed to the MBP's shortly after? Levy only lasted that long because the MBP's didn't enter her lungs, had they got to any vital organs she would have been dead before the fight ended.
I'm saying anyone that can fight for as long as Levy can at black-iron Gajeel's level, can probably take out Bloodman provided their magic can actually hit him. I don't see why people can't hold their breath, or even make an actual mask out of clothing (the same way you would do for smoke).
The problem with people making a mask is that Bradman would likely just attack them as they try to make one, Levy entered the fight with the mask on, if someone tries to put one on mid-battle then Bradman is going to attack them. Unless they have speed that's equal to DF Gajeel, they're getting killed for having no Iron Lungs.
Also, the point of being the same power-level as black iron Gajeel is so that you will be the one spamming attacks at Bloodman. If Bloodman is spamming attacks at you, then you're very likely not performing at Gajeel's level:
That's assuming the person is as fast as DF Gajeel, if they can't match the speed and eliminate Bradman quickly then he'll start using his haxier curses like Sensation and Enhancement whilst mitigating some damage via Absorption and MBP body. Beating Bradman is all about speed IMO, you can have great power but the second his hax starts getting spammed (especially his most hax curses) you're basically finished. This is obviously excluding people who would one-shot him like August and Irene.
Wall has etherion and can create a cannon with a 400km range. He's every bit as lethal against a 3rd party. Etherion would have supposedly erased Laxus.
In a battle though, a passive means of killing can be more deadly then a stronger attack as it allows you to attack as the passive killer is doing it's job. It would be a bit like having a gun fight in air polluted with nerve gas whilst not wearing a gas mask.

Credits to my lovely wife Crescent Jinx on FTB (Thanks bae!)
Juvia being chained to gray was almost like Laxus having the Ethernano particles. Something to hold Gray and Laxus back while giving the feeling of drama.
Both were clearly above their respected opponents.

Let's agree that Gildarts > Bradman and Gajeel. :tem

Gray being above Invel is a weird logic. Nothing really implies that, other than pissed off demon Gray beating Invel.

No, it isn't weird logic... I can't give you the reasons as to how Gray is above Invel due to forum rules but if you've read the latest chapter, then you would know that Gray is one of the strongest characters in the series alongside Natsu. Downplaying Gray because he doesn't have big, cool explosions is not a valid argument.

Who mentioned explosions? Certainly not me. Just going by how he had trouble against Invel until he was pissed off from Juvia's death and used his demonic powers.

Who mentioned explosions? Certainly not me. Just going by how he had trouble against Invel until he was pissed off from Juvia's death and used his demonic powers.
I don't know how you define "demonic", because he didn't use anything of that sort in his fight with Invel. If you're talking about Devil Slaying Magic, then I would agree.

The fight between Gray and Invel was just the beginning. I don't see how we can use that as evidence of Gray having trouble. In fact, Gray was not likely going all out based on his feats from the recent chapter. I see this battle being very similar to the fight between Gildarts and Bluenote. Although they seem to be on par for a brief second, one is clearly stronger than the other especially when they go full power.

potato potahto, still slaying magic.

Gray shivered and was outmatched at the start. He didn't even take down Invel when he surprised him with his increased power from the slayer magic. How do you know Invel was going all out as well? All we can say or surmise is that Invel seemed to be going more all out than Gray, but it doesn't look like either went fully all out.

Didn't Gildarts have trouble only because Erza's opponent took away his magic?

So what is the point of bringing up DeS then? Gray still wasn't full power.

The key word is "at the start". What happens at the beginning of fights isn't an accurate measurement of a character's power. Both characters are continuously getting stronger as the fight progresses. The outcome is what matters. Hiro Mashima isn't going to just let Gray one-shot Invel immediately. There has to be some sort of exchange in fights to make it interesting (except Natsu). I'm not saying Invel was going all out which is exactly my point. At best, the fight is inconclusive. But to say Gray is not (or cannot) be above Invel is just a false claim.

I was referring to the part where Gildarts and Bluenote seemingly clashed evenly (before the Tenrou Tree fell). The moment Gildarts got his power back, he ended up punching Bluenote into the sky. This clearly shows that once both contestants are at full power, there is a significant difference.

I think @Brandish got it right with Gajeel being above Bloodman. I didn't see Gajeel get a huge advantage in the fight tbh, he only gained the ability to hit Bloodman after ingesting the particles which triggered his Dragon Force. That isn't an advantage, that is just Gajeel using what is likely his strongest mode. That strongest mode helped him beat Bloodman with mere punches, therefore I think it is fair to put Gajeel above Bloodman.

I can't disagree more on the Gray and Natsu being equals thing. Gray hasn't shown he is on Natsu's level imo, Natsu has (for the past few arcs at the very least) shown he is the stronger of the two. They haven't had a properly equal showing in ages, and with Natsu having stuff like FDKM and Dragon Force at his disposal, Gray certainly isn't on that level of power.
Gray and Natsu are equal. FDKM is on par with Grays Ice Devil mode. Gray beat Invel with bare fist while Natsu had to use Fire dragon kings crumbling fist to take out Jacob.

Which took more magic power? Certainly wasn't Gray...
