Emotional power? Invel never hyped anything of that sort...

What Invel said to Gray was that he was slowly being consumed by darkness. This was the result of using Devil Slaying Magic which was said to eat away at the soul of Demon Slayers. To be honest, this really isn't much different from Dragon Slayers having the ability to dragonize by using Dragon Slaying Magic.

As for Gray's anger, that is not "Power of Friendship". It was the darkness within him that was slowly erupting. Juvia's "death" may have sped it up but it certainly wasn't PoF which is a random power-up given by the thought of your comrades. Anger is the equivalent of a character's highest potential. In other words, it is fair to say that Gray was going all out in that fight.
And how does one get consumed by darkness? Invel created an emotional situation on purpose so Gray's darkness could spill out. Essentially darkness is driven by negative emotions - that's how a heart becomes dark. DeS magic sped up the process, eating away at Gray's soul.

Darkness is just as much an emotional power as PoF. They might have different mechanics - but the outcome is the same - emotions or state of ones heart = more MP. Gaining power through darkness is not the same as going all out... DeS/darkness are basically written in such a way so Gray could get a power up. Edit: It's unfair for me to say it's written in that way, but the point still stands that Gray used darkness. Calling it an emotion power or not is just a point of view. For mine it's clear that without darkness Gray was Erza level at most, and with darkness Gray is ~Natsu level.

^Bro whats your opinion of Gildarts looking like a rented mule last chapter?
Which is more fatal?

Fighting off a million soldiers who can shoot beams of fire energy at you constantly or fighting a spriggan who can be taken out in a a couple of punches? Put Natsu in his position he would look the same. 20,000 vs Spriggan, the soldiers would obviously overwhelm him/her because of their numbers.

What are you arguing about?
Natsu vs Gray? Read the new chapter, they are fighting on par with each other.

Nah it's not about the current fight, I agree it's even. It's about Gray's power progression and darkness as a power in FT.

Also Gildarts getting some minor injuries is understandable... he's going to take blows facing so many soldiers. He doesn't look exhausted or badly hurt. But the panel Mashima drew... LMAOOO

i don't remember the exact quote but Incel said he's molding ice with the same properties as his ice armor.

That's he whole point of why Gildarts is strong. His magic breaks magic that are on the scale of mountains. If he's able to do that he can breaks spells that are comparable in size. His enemies don't stand a chance against him if he just keeps breaking all their spells. They're going to be forced to fight him up close and it's going to be hard to dodge someone who can throw 13 punches instantaneously in a normal not giving a shit mindset.

The fight with bluenotestinger showed Gildarts blitzing him at the start and at the end with Empyrean.
http://www.mangapanda.com/fairy-tail/233/14

Natsu had Igneels flames which made him faster. You can't use that speed because that power is gone.

Your assumptions are nothing to me until I see proof. And you really said Ice trail is nothing?

13 instantaneous punches. He could probably throw more but their were only 13 enemies.
http://www.mangapanda.com/tale-of-fairy-ice-trail-koori-no-kiseki/4/18

Single punches sends him flying miles leaving a crater around him.
http://www.mangapanda.com/tale-of-fairy-ice-trail-koori-no-kiseki/4/25

He's FTE in a casual mindset
http://www.mangapanda.com/tale-of-fairy-ice-trail-koori-no-kiseki/4/14

Gray with divine ice freezes all of
Natsu' spells. With his speed and devil advantage, Gray wins.
That doesn't mean Gray has actually acquired the Divine Ice to use. He simply used it's properties to break it open, and he's done this before in the Sun Village Arc and Tartarus arc without gaining the magic to use himself. So given that, it's highly unlikely he'd actually get the Divine Ice unless Invel gifted it to him.

Yes, I said Ice Trail holds no real weight to what we currently have in the manga. That is simply another manga artist's interpretation and really, it holds no weight as it hasn't happened in the actual manga. Yes, he threw punches that seemed fast to the rather plebby mage, but would it appear the same to a legitimately strong mage? Probably not. And again, his magic is meant to split things up, so rather than it being overwhelming power that allows him to break the hills, it is his magic. That doesn't make him breaking some hills up too impressive to be honest.

As for Natsu in the Zeref fight, where does it show Igneel's magic power made him faster? He literally only used Igneel's magic power as a substitute for his own when attacking Zeref, the magic power affected nothing more than the strength of his attacks.

Natsu uses his fire to make him faster and hit harder. The bigger the fireball, the faster the person goes. Rockets need bigger fireballs to launch them faster into our atmosphere, the smaller ones do the same but it takes longer. Do you get the point?

Invel didn't get decimated by Gray's punches... He was still in decent condition after being punched 3 times.

Besides a few bruises, he was relatively unharmed. Meanwhile, Gray's Ice Devil's Zeroth: Longsword actually inflicted major damage on Invel to the point he was bleeding.

I honestly don't get your point here. All this shows is that Gray has good physicals, Invel has good endurance/stamina, and DeS Spells > Base Punches.
Decimated, destroyed, rekt, whatever adjective you prefer, the point is that Invel took Gray's base punches worse than he took Zeroth. Zeroth didn't even move Invel and yet basic punches crushed him into the ground and sent him flying into a wall. Zeroth merely got Invel interested in Gray and yet basic punches forced Invel to use his trump card. And I personally can't see any blood when Invel got hit by Zeroth.

That one attack you're talking about didn't even kill Jacob. He came out with minor injuries. So Natsu indeed felt that FDKM was necessary and he was right in that. Besides, if Natsu was truly as strong as you claim, why couldn't he beat Jacob as quickly as possible in Base Form? Is it because he's not strong enough?
I don't see what's so hard to understand about this. FDKM > Base. Therefore, Natsu in FDKM would have an easier time beating Jacob than in base. Therefore, if he wanted to beat Jacob quickly, he would go FDKM. How is this so hard for you to comprehend? You're arguing that Natsu should have restricted himself for absolutely no reason at all. Why on earth would Natsu stay in base and take Jacob out in a couple of hits if he could go FDKM and take him out in one?

Now that is a twist of words just so that you can make your point. It should be clear Natsu was angry at the fact that Jacob was hurting his friends especially since Hiro Mashima emphasizes it in the font of the writing.
Um, I'm free to twist my own words however I want, especially considering that I admitted
my earlier wording was inaccurate and I corrected it.

Font of writing can convey the tone of the dialogue but in no way does it convey the INTENT of the speaker. And how exactly do you expect me to distinguish between an "angry" font and a "frustrated" font anyways?

They are equivalent. E.N.D's flames are a result of his magic power increasing which is very much the same as Igneel's power and FDKM.

I don't know what you mean by the flames didn't stay with Natsu for that long... It was no longer than a minute or two before it disappeared.
No, the flames of END are a result of Natsu becoming END. END has flames. He's a fire demon. Flames are a part of his body.

The flames stayed with Natsu when he discovered Lucy "dead", they stayed with him when he busted out, they stayed with him while he rampaged across the battlefield destroying Alvarez troops, they stayed with him when he encountered Gray, and you're telling me that after staying with Natsu throughout all of that they just decided to disappear once Natsu actually started fighting someone?

Not everyone who is good at CQC has good physicals. Just take the Garou Knights or Oración Seis for example. Characters like Kama or Racer can fight decently in hand-to-hand combat but the moment they are hit, they're defeated.
I don't remember anything about Kama but isn't Racer only good at CQC because of his speed magic?

I'm not saying Enhanced Neinhart has more durability. I'm saying he would last longer in a fight. Magic power actually plays a more of an important role than people think. The more MP a wizard has, the stronger they can make their attacks just by channeling more magic energy into them. Similarly, the more MP they have, the longer they can last in fight simply by having an increase in endurance/stamina.
But you keep ignoring the fact that Neinhart is not suited for direct combat, and his magic is largely non-offensive. Does an increase in MP mean that his stamina/endurance increases? Sure, I'll give you that. But is that really saying much considering how low his endurance and stamina was in the first place?

At the end of the day, Gildarts and Laxus will always remain above Natsu. One can break all spells no matter the size and the other can drop lightning nukes that reach above cloud level.

Natsu beat two spriggan 12, one being restricted and the other was already weak. Laxus fought a guy who was immune to his magic and Gildarts fought GS.

Natsu normal roar isn't that large, it's comparable if not smaller than Gajeels.

Natsu roar

Gajeels roar

Not only Gray and Natsu equal but is Gajeel.

Though I think Gildarts is easily above Natsu and Gray, him beating God Serena doesn't mean much when Gildarts himself said Serena was nowhere near his potential.

Gray got consumed by darkness because of the magic he uses. Invel never intended to create an emotional situation.

I agree that Gray being taken over by darkness is a power-up. But I disagree that it is as much of an emotional power as PoF. If anger is nakama power, then almost every fight in Fairy Tail resulted in the use of PoF. I don't mind saying Gray received a power-up, but it wasn't Power of Friendship.

There was blood coming out of his mouth... Gray's base punches didn't do much to Invel except irritate him. That is why he used his "trump card". Looking back at the panel again, all I see are scratches and bruises on Invel's face. No major damage.

Also, as Emperor Spriggan said, Invel is terrible at CQC. That is why basic punches crushed him into the ground and sent him flying into a wall. I really don't see what your point is. Gray has proven to have good physical power so it is only reasonable for Invel to get beaten up like that.

I don't see what's so hard to understand about this. FDKM > Base. Therefore, Natsu in FDKM would have an easier time beating Jacob than in base. I'm just pointing out the discrepancy between Natsu's fight with Neinhart and his fight with Jacob. Why would Natsu resort to FDKM if he didn't need to? He could beat Neinhart without using FDKM, so wouldn't it make more sense for Natsu to conserve his energy and defeat Jacob in Base Mode? But he didn't. And let's assume Jacob is more durable... Natsu could have just used a FDK spell to defeat him. But he didn't. He had to use FDKM. That is all I'm trying to say.

Um, I'm free to twist my own words however I want, especially considering that I admitted

You told me earlier that I can use whatever adjective I want, yet the point is still the same. I'm basically saying the same thing.

As far as I'm concerned, the tone of a character is an indication of their intentions. If they sound angry, it's likely that the're giving it their all. You don't need to differentiate between anger and frustration because the meaning is the same. Natsu was trying just as hard against Jacob as he did with Neinhart.

No, the flames of END are a result of Natsu becoming END. END has flames. He's a fire demon. Flames are a part of his body.

If flames were part of E.N.D's body like Atlas Flame, it would have stayed there permanently. But it didn't.

The only reason why it seems long is because we're reading the manga. If this scene was animated, it would all happen very quickly. From the time he discovered Lucy "dead" to the time he busted out would only be a few seconds. As for the Alvarez troops, I wouldn't call it rampaging across the battlefield. It was more like destroying an area nearby. And he only met Gray for a couple seconds. I don't see how you can say this lasted for a long time. It doesn't matter though, Natsu said he wouldn't hold back so we'll soon see how strong he truly is.

If I remember correctly, Kama was fighting on par with Natsu. Granted, he did have two scythes. As for Racer, even when he isn't using his speed magic, he can still land a few hits on opponents like Lyon and Jellal.

Well, Jacob's stats aren't that high to begin with. So even if Neinhart was below Jacob, his enhanced version should at least put him on par with Jacob. Besides, Neinhart's MP increased so much to the point Brandish's magic wouldn't work on him. That tells us a lot.

Power of Feelings is a legitimate source of power in Fairy Tail any time emotions are in play. Emotions are a source of magical power. I basically see negative emotions being to curse power what love is for magic power. I see Gray's condition being, more or less, similar to Sting's condition during the grand magic games. The darkness inside him has awakened so to speak, and gave him a power-up because of it.

Ignore my post, nice.
I didn't ignore it. Natsu's roar against Bluenote is larger than Gajeel's. His roar against the fodders might not have been, but that simply means he wasn't using the same amount of power.

Ok I see the blood now. That still doesn't mean anything though.

Invel's exact words were: "He seems intent on forcing me to unleash 'that'". Mere irritation is not enough to force someone to use their trump card.

Also, as Emperor Spriggan said, Invel is terrible at CQC. That is why basic punches crushed him into the ground and sent him flying into a wall. I really don't see what your point is. Gray has proven to have good physical power so it is only reasonable for Invel to get beaten up like that.
CQC simply refers to how good the mage is at fighting hand to hand, it has nothing to do with how well they can take attacks. Gray's physical power is irrelevant because you yourself admitted that Zeroth was a stronger attack than a basic punch. It's not reasonable at all for Invel to get thrown into a wall by a basic punch and feel forced to pull out a freaking trump card when eariler he took a stronger attack like it was nothing.

Jacob had shown the power to take out the entire guild in an instant and he would have taken Fairy Heart had Natsu not shown up, I think Natsu's got plenty of other things to worry about besides energy conservation.

Again, you fail to realize that Natsu didn't just defeat Jacob in FDKM. He oneshot him. How can you honestly argue that Natsu can go from oneshotting Jacob in FDKM to outright losing in base? The power difference between FDKM and base is nowhere near that high.

You told me earlier that I can use whatever adjective I want, yet the point is still the same. I'm basically saying the same thing.
I told you you could use any adjective you wanted because the specific word was irrelevant. As long as the adjective still implied that Gray was beating Invel then it doesn't matter, obviously I didn't mean literally any adjective.

As far as I'm concerned, the tone of a character is an indication of their intentions. If they sound angry, it's likely that the're giving it their all. You don't need to differentiate between anger and frustration because the meaning is the same. Natsu was trying just as hard against Jacob as he did with Neinhart.
Of course we need to differentiate between the two. If it was pure anger that caused Natsu to use FDKM against Jacob, then yes, you'd have a point as to why Natsu didn't go FDKM when he was angry at Neinhart. But if it was frustration instead of anger, the situation would be completely different because there was no aspect of frustration when Natsu was fighting Neinhart. Two completely different scenarios.

If flames were part of E.N.D's body like Atlas Flame, it would have stayed there permanently. But it didn't.
But this is just circular reasoning. You can only make this claim off the assumption that the degree to which END had taken over Natsu didn't change at all from the time we saw the flames to the time they disappeared, but this is precisely what we've been arguing about in the first place.

It lasted a long time in comparison to the amount of time that the flames from FDKM and Igneel's power lasted, which disappeared almost instantaneously. For the END flames to last throughout that long period of time (relatively speaking of course) and then randomly disappear right when Natsu started to fight Gray is just too convenient to be purely coincidental.

If I remember correctly, Kama was fighting on par with Natsu. Granted, he did have two scythes. As for Racer, even when he isn't using his speed magic, he can still land a few hits on opponents like Lyon and Jellal.
I wouldn't say that landing a few hits equates to being skilled at CQC.

Well, Jacob's stats aren't that high to begin with. So even if Neinhart was below Jacob, his enhanced version should at least put him on par with Jacob. Besides, Neinhart's MP increased so much to the point Brandish's magic wouldn't work on him. That tells us a lot.
How do we know that Jacob's stats aren't high?

Actually that barely tells us anything considering all the Spriggans have similar levels of MP and thus increasing one member's MP to be higher than another's isn't necessarily a large boost. Besides, MP does not correlate to durability. Neinhart's MP being on par with Jacob or even being above him does not mean that Neinhart's durability should automatically be as well.

Exactly, Bluenote was no push over. Keep in mind he was a little weaker than Gildarts in brute strength. That's the reason he used that much power.

Yes, but that is still base Natsu's roar. If you want to compare Gajeel and Natsu's base roars, you have to compare them at their best.

PoF isn't just a source of magic power. It's a source of power overall.

Like I said, if emotions and PoF are one in the same, then virtually every fight in Fairy Tail was influenced by PoF as that is the central theme of the series. It doesn't have to be feelings for a specific character. It could be feelings for the guild, friends, etc.

 • Natsu used PoF to beat Jellal in ToH because he made Erza cry.
 • Makarov used PoF to beat Jose because he tortured his "children".
 • Mirajane used PoF to beat Freed because he inflicted maximum pain on Elfman.
 • Lucy used PoF to beat Jackal because he forced Aquarius to "sacrifice" herself.
 • Elfman used PoF to beat Seilah because she harmed his sister, Mirajane.
 • Erza used PoF to beat Azuma because he caused suffering to the guild (Mirajane/Lisanna).
 • Gajeel used PoF to beat Bloodman because he was slowly killing Levy.
 • Laxus used PoF to beat Wahl because he defeated the Raijinshuu.

I mean in literally every fight, we've had a character get upset or angry due to the pain or suffering of another character. In that case, we shouldn't even bring this topic up in the power ranking thread as it has no place here.

Gray doesn't use curses or curse power for that matter. So negative emotions wouldn't affect him. As for the darkness, that was a result from using Devil Slaying Magic.

POF is applies to the real world. A woman lifted a truck because she was mad that her dad was about to die from the fire.

"You're strong" =/= equal
Where did I ever mention any sort of equality? Just that Gildarts beat someone but thought that the person wasn't even close to full power.

Ok I see the blood now. That still doesn't mean anything though.

Invel's exact words were: "He seems intent on forcing me to unleash 'that'". Mere irritation is not enough to force someone to use their trump card.
I don't know what prompted Invel to use his trump card and I'm not going to speculate. It could be because he was pressured by the fact that Gray was getting serious or maybe he wanted to end the fight as quickly as possible.

Nonetheless, Ice Devil Zeroth's: Longsword is still did more damage than Base Punches...

Gray's DeS spell was stronger than his punches. I don't get why it's not reasonable for Invel to get thrown into a wall by a basic punch. That is what force does...

Invel didn't take the DeS spell like it was nothing and he even expressed the damage taken by screaming. Besides, Ice Devil Zeroth's: Longsword isn't purely a physical attack. It cuts, not pushes. I bet you Ajeel would fly farther away if Erza punched him rather than sliced him.

The point of Makarov throwing Jacob outside the guild hall was so that he wouldn't become a threat anymore. So Natsu has no excuses there. All he had to do was defeat Jacob in Base Form. Makarov already took care of the "threat" issue.

You're missing the point. Natsu also one-shotted Enhanced Neinhart in Base Mode. So why couldn't he do the same with Jacob who should be comparable to the likes of Neinhart.

I told you you could use any adjective you wanted because the specific word was irrelevant. As long as the adjective still implied that Gray was beating Invel then it doesn't matter, obviously I didn't mean literally any adjective.
Exactly. I'm telling you that you can use the word "angry" or "frustration" and it still wouldn't change my original point.

Not really... It's pretty much the same considering Natsu did it both times for the sake of the guild.

But this is just circular reasoning. You can only make this claim off the assumption that the degree to which END had taken over Natsu didn't change at all from the time we saw the flames to the time they disappeared, but this is precisely what we've been arguing about in the first place.
The flames were only visible when Natsu was undergoing the transformation to E.N.D. I honestly don't know what this has to do with the discussion though. By the way, who thought of the idea that Natsu was going easy on Gray because the flames disappeared? That is ridiculous.

I can say the same for Gray.

You can see some form of ice vapor or magic power emitting from his hands but they soon disappeared in the next panel. So I guess he went easy on Natsu, right...?

It lasted a long time in comparison to the amount of time that the flames from FDKM and Igneel's power lasted, which disappeared almost instantaneously. For the END flames to last throughout that long period of time (relatively speaking of course) and then randomly disappear right when Natsu started to fight Gray is just too convenient to be purely coincidental.
Because he was still undergoing the transformation...

I wouldn't say that landing a few hits equates to being skilled at CQC.
Okay... Well half the time that Jacob got hits on Natsu and Lucy was when he made himself fade. So I can say that he is quite average at CQC.

How do we know that Jacob's stats aren't high?
His attack power is nothing impressive as he couldn't even inflict major damage on anyone. His defense was poor considering he was one-shotted. And his magic power is average. Everything other stat was below average.

Still... the more MP a character has, the stronger they are physically and magically. That much should be obvious. In fact, that is the exact reason why the Spriggans are considered Fairy Tail's most formidable opponents.

See but this is exactly my point. If Zeroth is stronger than Gray's base punches, then why did he consider Gray using Zeroth merely interesting and yet he considers Gray's base punches a sign that he's getting serious? Seems rather contradictory.

Nonetheless, Ice Devil Zeroth's: Longsword is still did more damage than Base Punches...
You can keep repeating this all you want but the fact remains that this is inconsistent with Invel's actions and responses to each of those attacks.

Gray's DeS spell was stronger than his punches. I don't get why it's not reasonable for Invel to get thrown into a wall by a basic punch. That is what force does...

Ok I'll give you this, but this still doesn't explain Invel's reactions and responses to Zeroth and Gray's base punches.

The point of Makarov throwing Jacob outside the guild hall was so that he wouldn't become a threat anymore. So Natsu has no excuses there. All he had to do was defeat Jacob in Base Form. Makarov already took care of the "threat" issue.
The idea that removing Jacob from the building somehow automatically makes him not a threat anymore is completely absurd. If Natsu hadn't dealt with Jacob quickly then who knowswhat would have happened? He might have used Stealth to get away and he could come right back to the guild any time he wanted.

You're missing the point. Natsu also one-shotted Enhanced Neinhart in Base Mode. So why couldn't he do the same with Jacob who should be comparable to the likes of Neinhart.
But then you have to ask yourself, "IS Jacob's durability comparable to the likes of Neinhart?" Isn't that what we've been discussing this whole time?

Exactly. I'm telling you that you can use the word "angry" or "frustration" and it still wouldn't change my original point.

Not really... It's pretty much the same considering Natsu did it both times for the sake of the guild.
Well no duh. EVERYTHING Natsu does is for the sake of the guild, that doesn't make every circumstance and scenario equivalent just because the larger overarching motivation is the same.

The flames were only visible when Natsu was undergoing the transformation to E.N.D. I honestly don't know what this has to do with the discussion though. By the way, who thought of the idea that Natsu was going easy on Gray because the flames disappeared? That is ridiculous.

I can say the same for Gray.

Well you just answered your own question about why this is even relevant with the very next sentence you wrote.

Again, this is more circular reasoning. You are operating under the assumption that END's flames work the same way as FDKM flames or Igneel's flames, but my whole argument has been that they DON'T work the same way.

Because he was still undergoing the transformation...
What makes you say that?

Okay... Well half the time that Jacob got hits on Natsu and Lucy was when he made himself fade. So I can say that he is quite average at CQC.
Well IIRC Natsu himself admitted that Jacob was good at CQC.

Still... the more MP a character has, the stronger they are physically and magically. That much should be obvious. In fact, that is the exact reason why the Spriggans are considered Fairy Tail's most formidable opponents.
They are considered Fairy Tail's most formidable opponents because they have huge amounts of MP and are highly proficient in haxy magic, not because they're all buff hunks that can take nuclear blasts straight to the face without a scratch (obviously an exaggeration but you get my point). It is true that a lot of mages with high MP do have great physicality. But correlation does not equal causation.
