We could use more gag series for Jump.

I would agree with that. I'm always down for more gag manga. As much as I think that Gintama does serious moments pretty well, the one thing I'm sad about is that it hasn't been a proper gag manga for about 2+ years. I really miss it.

Saiki Kusuo is also pretty great, but I'm worried that the anime's lack of boost would qualify it to be cancelled at some point down the line. I feel pretty bad for Shuichi Aso.
Gintama is a success sure, but it's definitely not for everyone since the jokes can fall flat due to cultural barriers. One gag can be funny to Jump's main audience, but not so for everyone else. Trust me, I've tried getting into it before, and a lot of the jokes just falls flat to me. It's closer to being a hit or miss imo.
It's kinda bizarre that, in the western fandom at least, Gintama is more often than not advertised by fans as a comedy but then strongly emphasise that it gets serious. As a result, you get people trying to skip any comedy episodes entirely and just want to watch the serious arcs. I love Gintama, but even I can admit that a lot of the Japanese pop culture jokes go right over my head.

I actually started reading Beelzebub for the first time recently. Wish me luck.

I won't quote since it has that gigantic image but... I agree, that beelzebub arc is the best of all gag manga ever.

Looks like Viz didn't pick up Amalgam. Wonder if they'll pick up Spring Weapon

3 chapters in and Japanese fans look like they don't care for either titles, so I think both will flop

Amalgam is super generic & Spring Weapon continues to steals stuff from Saiki Kusou

If they indeed flop I won't miss either of them

Amalgam was by far the worst series of the new batch, so I'm not particularly surprised viz didn't add it to the roster.

Viz doesn't always announce their picks right away, sometimes they wait a week or two after the Jump starts first to see their reception properly.

We'll see if either have been chosen next issue.

This are the closest data of series around volume 66. Not many series reach 66 volumes, other than those series the only other one is Jojo's and that didn't had any data during that time.

I think that includes the Spin-off, Shokugeki no Soma: L'etoile

Amalgam of Distortion's start was slow and weak but I don't think all hope is lost just yet. Red Sprite has a decent following surprisingly, it would be funny if it gets axed and Amalgam of Distortion survives.

A couple of reused jokes didn't ruin it for me personally, I am actually enjoying SW1 so far and I would like to see it survive.

Red Sprite's been 3rd last, 3rd last, then dead last so far, it's pretty much guaranteed cancellation at this point.

Amalgam to me feels like the kind of clumsy series that could do pretty well in a smaller magazine based on edge factor alone (like Akame ga Kill) but I can't see it working in Jump. Who knows though, it has a slight Tokyo Ghoul vibe to it so perhaps it'll get some of its runoff (maybe younger readers whose parents don't let them read young jump).

Isnt Viz too full to pick up new series? They lost Nisekoi and Bleach, and then picked up 4 series ( Neverland, Love Rush, Sprite and RWBY or however you spell it). Although considering two of those could be cancelled soon, they may pick Amalgram or Sprite up in a few weeks or theyll just do whatever new series start next round.

On another note, does anyone know if ESJ has ever dropped a series before that wasnt cancelled. Like it wasnt popular with their audience? Or do they stick with a series until the end?
