A rather interesting article on the Editor's point of view. It focuses on Heroaca but the editor, Monji in this case, really talks about some of the things he does. He says that with Horikoshi, he usually goes along with what horikoshi wants to do an basically says things like " I'd like to see this kind of character appear" or "With these events, shall we introduce these characters or the rival". He says that Horikoshi basically had a lot of characters that appear in the story designed before serialization and that he basically had a lot of this planned already.

He also talks about the TOC rankings. Monji says that while they play a huge part in the TOC order and whether a manga will continue, the works are not all of the same genre so the balance of the magazine is placed first. The questionnaire results are not everything but they help in the TOC placement and basically as feedback for the authors and their editors to see what went well in a highly ranked chapter and what didn't in a chapter that wasn't as well received.

Monji also mused about a live-action for Heroaca. This was following the recent live-action announcements for a lot of jump titles.HE basically said that it would require a lot of money to be produced due to the sheer amount of CG needed.

Oda said it before, while surveys are important, the manga placement is decided by the magazine's mood

Honestly, just freaking call Stan Lee already and see if he can wire them to Disney/Marvel's top brass to see if they want to do it. On one side, if the Disney execs just want to be dicks, they could sue the hell out of Horikoshi (which would be a bad move). On the other side, this would let Sky High's writers live out their vision that they couldn't realize because they couldn't bring enough money home to continue it into a trilogy like they wanted.

I think they definitely should let most of Sky High's writers come back since they most definitely have the right vision. Also, good to see that Horikoshi has planned out everything in advance. I definitely feel Horikoshi has a very good idea of how he wants the manga to end.

I'm pretty sure that Horikoshi has said before that he had all the story planned out beforehand, and just adds some stuff in as he goes to improve it. I'm glad that we got confirmation that his original vision isn't tampered with much by his editor. It sounds like a good editor-mangaka relationship to me.

I am honestly very cynical of a live-action adaptation in general regardless of whether its a japanese production or hollywood but I am more cynical of Hollywood than the japanese one. After Dragonball Evolution, its up to the upsoming GiTS movie to see how they might handle a japanese franchise and do justice with said franchise. Sky HIgh was also not really that great of a movie to me. It was nice but thats all it did for me.

DIsney also cannot sue Heroaca because theyre only similar in the hero school concept. Everything else is totally different and would be grasping at straws as they use concepts of main character not having any power in a lot of series.

It seems like a good one but 2ch for some reason is not fond of Monji, but 2ch believes that the entire editorial department is bad right now so take it as you will.

tbh, MHA isn't even similar enough to Sky High for there to even be a case. The two are similar, but the idea of Superhero kids going to class has been explored before in comics

kind of want to see how Amalgam of DIstortion is doing with it's recent chapters, but no one is translating it

Someone told Horikoshi about Sky High and he said he had no idea it existed prior to making MHA

I'm cynical of Hollywood adaptations as well. But for once, HeroAca actually has a shot at being decent. It's fine if they change the names entirely, or even change ethnicities (after all, Power Rangers changed ethnicities from Japanese to American actors) so long as the characters aren't radically altered. Horikoshi takes a lot of his story-telling cues from western works in general, so having a Hollywood adaptation just makes sense.

Furthermore, if they get Sky High's writers back on board, then I don't think we'll have to worry too much. Sky High and HeroAca share the same idea and vision in their story, only that HeroAca is what Sky High could've become. I liked Sky High too, even though the story is nothing to write home about. But what I see in HeroAca is what Sky High couldn't execute, and thus, if the writers soak in HeroAca's writing, they could end up with a great adapted screenplay. Put simply, HeroAca is an improved version of Sky High.

So, just this once I can be optimistic with a Hollywood adaptation, even though that might be like 5-7 years down the line before that happens.

Well, we already knew editors excuses for the TOC system, he didn't say anything new. hahaha
The truth is that the series that are in the bottom are cancelled and generally the ones at the top goes well. That's what we want to know, so that's all right. The TOC has got crazy recently, though... Editors' influence, maybe.

that was pretty bad and killed any interest I had in Demons Plans. God please bless us with good battle shonen next year
That GFC was really poor, not as much vision or talent as the past two years.

A Kimetsu no Yaiba movie would be the easiest to make in my opinion but let us hope it gets an anime for now.

I'm aware that the interview is referring to a Japanese-produced movie, but I think MHA is one of the more suitable candidates for a Hollywood live-action movie. However, as Monji says, there would be a need for a lot of investment. A cheap movie wouldn't work. I personally don't see a high budget movie of that type happening... but if it did, MHA's popularity would probably sky-rocket. Just something fun to think about.

If it gets Stan Lee's seal of approval, I think the production committee could make the case for an Avengers-level budget. Or something close. One actor I can see playing Deku would be Jay Baruchel. But I'm not sure if he'd be too old or not for the role in the future.

Stan Lee have as much power to control Disney/Marvel as me and you

you're thinking Kevin Feige & Bob Iger

I would love to see many MHA movies just not live action.
Does anyone have any idea where people picked that Bones are contracted for 3 seasons from? Been seeing it all over the place.

tbh kind of want to see how Amalgam of DIstortion is doing with it's recent chapters, but no one is translating it
Saw the raws from last week's chapter on 4chan, still slow no action until chapter 6 probably.

Really? I've never seen anyone claim that in particular. It stems from the interview that Masahiko Minami(Bones President) did with ANN:

ANN: I wanted to ask about My Hero Academia as well. It's unique because it's such a long-running Shonen Jump property. Usually with those kinds of projects, you don't see them done in one cour with high-quality animation. I wanted to know, because it's so very long, was Bones prepared to embrace the length of this property in seasons or… it's an unusual approach, you know?

Minami: We haven't drawn out a lot of the content because the manga's been going on for so long, so there's still a lot to adapt into anime. So we would like to keep this as an ongoing project and improve the quality, not just keep the status quo but take something good and make it better.

Minami says that but if they don't have a 2 cour season next year then the commercial potential of this series is not going to be fully fulfilled. You can barely expect much of a boost with 1 cour let alone of a sequel series. However, it does seem like nichigo doesn't really have anything announced for next year besides Heroaca and Taizai so I am optimistic in that regard.

Black Clover's anime is so soon. I see it getting announced in 2017 but it'll happen in 2018. Same goes for Vento Aureo. Vento Aureo would take longer to animate than Diamond is Unbreakable too.

Speaking of Vento Aureo; how popular was it? I've seen people claim it was the most popular part or it was one of the more popular parts in the series. Does anyone have ToC rankings or sales to back/refute this claim?

You forgot the Berserk anime...unless that was intentional.
