well the most common way i know in proportions is using the head as your reference( if adult)

hand size = 1 face or from chin to your eyebrow (try it with your own body)
from shoulder to wrist( two heads)
leg (4 heads)

size of foot (1 head)

torso estimation around 2 heads+

i could be wrong. i havent gone to any art school

but yeah, i use this with my own body to make reference
