You're talking of the story about the letter, right? The time that he was sick and received that letter isn't directly related, in time, that he ended the series like he wanted.
He never said how his condition went in the 5 or 4 years later. I can't see a person with the same strong sickness for years while still working.

And yeah, I don't know if he's a millionaire but since Toriko is one of the best selling manga of all time, I don't think that he is in need of money right now. But yeah, kwowing Shima he could have spend it all with underaged girls.

IIRC, he said after the anniversary of Bleach, he was constantly getting sick repeatedly. And with the way the series was obviously rushed at the end, that's not all that unbelievable.

Toriko anime rarely sold much at all? It just got high TV ratings. I was saying not millionaire per year. Ofc everything he earned from Toriko is well over a million. He definitely wasn't making a million after anime end.

No, you're right. Toriko recent update was in 2014, near the time where anime ended. I doubt it's even at 25 million at this point.

I remember seeing a press release PDF years ago in regards to the best selling bandai namco (IIRC?) properties, and the Toriko toys were listed. Just off toys alone, it made them over 20 million dollars, IIRC. The toys were making them more money than the volume and DVD sales, lol.

It had high merch. sales but they could've made a Toriko cafe (not sure if they did or not). It could be lucrative xD

Btw, the anime advertised the some of the merch. I believe. So yeah showing it a good time slot is going to score some great sales. The DVD sales weren't much tbh.

Toriko could've been at low/mid 30M if it was adapted better and/or by different studio. That director they had for the anime made some lousy mistakes and even watching the anime it left out some/most of the gags/world building.

It would've made a great Trigger show tbvh.

Assistants are like employee, they don't get royalties. Remember, mangaka get pay to draw in the magazine as well. But after paying all the expense (assistants, paper and ink if go tradition path), they left with nothing. So, their primary income is ROYALTIES sale.

The 10% is an estimate, but a good estimate. Some higher veteran may get better royalties (like 15% for Oda,Togashi, etc..)
