Well, to be fair, God Serena was hyped to be way stronger than Ajeel. And it most likely is the case. So I still think that Jura > Elfman. Elfman is like pre-timeskip Natsu right now.
And Elfman and Lisanna managed to defeat a weakened Ajeel, which in the end, doesn't mean much. He didn't even use Sand World.
Pre-skip Natsu? Current Elfman would no-diff that guy. No way preskip Natsu would even be able to push Azir past mid diff with only Lisanna on his side, even with Dragon Force.
The only hype God Serena has that suggests he's above an ordinary spriggan is Gildarts saying that he'd be a decent opponent, which is good, but still i'd rather we had more confirmation that God Serena was at least Larcade tier or above.

Well, then let's agree to disagree.
I have to admit though, the GOI Hype has been ruined this arc... Which is a shame.

Hmmm, I just noticed something.
Remember how the GOI were offpaneled and defeated? Before they stood up one last time? The thing is, it's strongly suggested that they didn't know Gd Serena, even though he defeated them.
And since the fight was offpaneled, could it be that August and God Serena defeated them together, and then God Serena went to them to boast?

Ugh, no, it clearly suggests he defeated them by himself without even using magic. Damnit Mashima!! I hoped there was a chance of redeeming to them if they indeed fighted August and God Serena both at the same time, and then Serena finished them off. And it wouldn't be such bullshit then...

yeah i have to admit this panel was sick God Serena was overpowered and has no injuries... God Serena death really has only negative effect not a single spriggan has been come close to this level achievement..

Nah man, Elfman rapes him. He and freaking Lisanna beat Azir, not even extreme diff. while Jura + GoI got mid diffed by God Serena. Just another reason why God Serena soloing GoI is stupid as hell. I mean Elfman has always been decent, but never anywhere near the top.
I don't think it's that simple. We can't conclude that Elfman is stronger than Jura based on the outcome of these fights. We have to look at what actually happened. And since these battles were off-paneled, it is impossible to tell who is actually stronger/weaker.

If we were to strictly go off of feats, then you would have a point. But looking at the context of these fights and taking hype + portrayal into account, then these "feats" could mean absolutely nothing. A prime example was August vs. Jellal. At first, it seemed like there was a massive difference in power between the two. But then, after we saw August vs. Gildarts, it was clear that the reason August stomped Jellal was because of his counter magic.

So applying it to these scenarios, I can easily argue that the GoI were holding back against God Serena. Likewise, I could say Ajeel used no magic in his fight whatsoever. While these are baseless assumptions, they do make sense when it comes to power scaling which in my opinion, is the most important tool when assessing a character's strength.

Seeing Azir pitifully struggling to get up and continue the fight heavily implies Azir was doing his best to win.
GoI deciding to get up and have one more go at God Serena implies the same.

I will say that God Serena should be immune to Jura's magic, making him basically useless, however Hyberion, Wolfheim and Warrod have no excuse for going down so easily.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

That scene was one of the worst asspulls of the arc. If God Serena had been that strong from the start, the GoI should have really only been comprised of one person (which is God Serena).

The fact that 3 others were always compared to God Serena implies that all 4 GoIs were all on similar levels of power.

To make matters worse, the fight was mostly off-paneled with Hyberion and Wolfheim each using only 1 nameless spell.

If that chapter had any meaning to it, they could have at least shown Hyberion and Wolfheim's full potential (such as a full arsenal of spells) instead of giving us a boring introductory exhibit.

That chapter was practically set-up for Acnologia to oneshot a dragon slayer, who is not part of the main cast, which in this case would be God Serena.
Well there is an explanation for this.

As we know GOI and Jura were shocked on seeing DS Serena,we can assume Serena didn't show DS Magic or didn't have it.And as DS Serena>Base Serena it's justified.

Base serena stomped Goi and Jura with unknown magic without any injuries... if i have to guess his secret magic is probably Thunder/lightning...

Goi and Jura should be able to hit atleast once ???? but no God Serena has no injuries

even Lucy Damaged Brandish....

Which is exactly my point. Mashima showcased 4 of God Serena's dragon slaying spells.

Meanwhile, he decided to only give Hyberion and Wolfheim one nameless spell each. That's hardly a fair comparison.

If Mashima really wanted to test God Serena's strength, he should have shown the full extent of Hyberion's Vampire Magic and Wolfheim's Werewolf Magic.

The fight was completely set up in God Serena's favor and was only used to exaggerate his power.

Realistically, Hyberion and Wolfheim would have put up a way better fight if that chapter wasn't designed to help God Serena win.

Making the battle off-paneled was even worse.

yeah worshipping God Serena was pointless because he was one-shotted after defeating Goi and Jura... wasted hype and panels

I'm not sure if I would agree with that. I mean Ajeel's capabilities seem heavily dependent on the terrain surrounding him. With that said, it wouldn't be far-fetched to say he was restricted most of the fight (similar to his battle with Erza). And it doesn't seem Sand World was used either.

As for the GoI, it's reasonable to assume that they were holding back for the majority of the fight. When Hyberion first used his spell against God Serena, August was surprised. That indicates that Hyberion's main magic wasn't used before. Same can be said with the other GoI. All I'm saying is that what happened wasn't clear-cut. So although these fights doesn't seem logical at all, it may be because of the lack of information we got from them.

That said, I don't think Elfman would no-diff pre-timeskip Natsu either (although you're probably exaggerating there). In fact, I think Tartaros Natsu would still beat Current Elfman. The power scaling this arc definitely seems off, but if we discredit some feats and explain it through situational factors, then it should make a little more sense (at least to me).

What was wrong with Azir's terrain against Elfman? He was on the ground.
But even when Hyberion used his main magic, God Serena had barely any trouble getting back up and for the first time, used his main magic, DS, to put down the lot of them. You can argue that maybe Hyberion wasnt giving it his all at the start. but we know God Serena wasnt, which is terrible.
Tartaros Natsu even in DF couldnt push Mard past mid diff and wouldnt even have survived long enough to use it without Gray's DeS tattoo absorbing Memento Mori. Azir>Mard or at best Azir=Mard. So unless current Lisanna>Tartaros DeS Gray, current Elfman>Tartaros DF Natsu.

I would say GMG Jura, Laxus, Jellal > Bluenote mid diff.

no diff after the time skip, even for Jura.

I would say that Ajeel lost while he was going all out.

even if he didn't use Sandworld, he didn't had damage output to put down Elfman and Lisanna.

similar case with Jacob and Mirajane.

Jacob had closed eyes and Mirajane was not even close to her full power but Jacob's durability stayed the same and Mirajane had enough damage output to put him down.

Sand world is Ajeel's strongest move as implied by Wall and ofc by Ajeel himself which he's considered "god" which therefore is him going all out. So in other words he didn't go all out. And judging by the amount of damage those two had suffered from him, I would say he would've annihilated them had he used it.

Mira said that's the only reason why she was able to win against him which does show how he really has handicapped himself that much. Not to mention there's his hax which he did not use.

Sandworld restricts your sight.

if he doesn't have any other attack then he is weak af.

Mira was heavily exhausted and you didn't get my point.

why isn't everyone getting what I'm saying????? :gwah

Well ok then that's good since that's what they need mostly, and it also gives you limited movement which Ajeel can use to his advantage since he can freely move and blend in the sand which prevents him from getting attacked and also be easier to attack them like he done with Erza who was getting owned when he used that spell unlike before when she was holding herself off before he used it. So once again, he would've annihilated them if he had used Sand a World

Pretty sure Erza would've owned him if he was that weak.:neutral He has other attacks like Sand Golem, Sands of Death which he said once hit it'll dry then out from the inside having them mummified, and using his magic to suck the moisture of out of his victims rendering them dry but none of those seems to have been used.

That doesn't seem to be the case as explained from her. If she was heavily exhausted then she shouldn't be able to fight with him as shown multiple times whenever she do get weakened. So for all we know she may had gotten some rest before she made it to the battlefield like Natsu and co. had.

Guys all of the off-panelled fights are BS and filled with plot holes.
Like the north. If they faced Bloodman and Rankheid, how did anyone survive? They just one-shoot anyone who comes near....

I don't think the Wizard Saints were holding back against God Serena. Warrod was pretty certain that he was about to die and he was basically trying to make a last ditched attempt. Rather I think what happened was that God Serena pressured them so hard that they couldn't even get an attack in. Then God Serena started to gloat and take his time, which gave the Wizard Saints the opportunity to launch attacks. If you look at God Serena's reaction to getting attacked, he was basically mocking the Wizard Saints...

... At least until Hyperion got his vampire magic. Vampire magic was impressive enough to impress August, but even then... It was only at this point where God Serena had to show off his main magic as well.

i still think Ajeel would be a match for God Serena though. It's easier for me to believe that Fairy Tail members like Elfman and Mirajane have simply outgrown the wizard saints. Besides, Jacob had his eyes closed and Elfman had a takeover that counters sand + Lisanna's assistance in flight. Ajeel also didn't seem to take advantage of Sand World, which is what he had to resort when Erza started landing hits on him. God Serena is arguably a better brawler than Ajeel, but Ajeel's AoE is probably the best among the Spriggans. Sand World is larger than Magnolia.

Goi members is beyond Prime Warrod is good example hes over 115 years old and even azuma is mostlikely stronger than warrod..

Lisanna and Elfman is even weaker than makarov someone Hades or Ef marde caliber can murder stomp Lisanna and Elfman

EF Mard Geer and Hades ---->Low-tier spriggans(Ajeel.Jacob.Brandish)

yes Spriggans is the strongest group but not all spriggans---->Hades and Mard

I don't think age is really relevant unless you are suffering from health problems like Makarov, and Warrod is not.

Lisanna is probably weaker than Makarov, and but I don't have too much trouble believing Elfman made great gains. I think he is at least the same level as Wolfheim at this point. With his sand beast advantage, Ajeel not using sand world, and Lisanna's help, it's not too difficult to see why he might have edged a victory.

I disagree strongly with Mard Geer and Hades being above any Spriggans. Mard would be solidly below Bloodman, who is on the same level as the rest of the Spriggans.

Both mard and Hades has better feats than Ajeel...

Mard with base form was able to fight against CSK who is stronger than Ajeel or Lisanna and Elfman...

Hades destroyed Titan Makarov who destoyed Grimore-heart airship with pure strenght alone...
