Now sales inflation has just become ridiculous. I've seen this before but c'mon. Shueisha themselves announced that Dragonball manga had sold 240 million worldwide not longer than a year ago when they introduced the new Dragonball department. There is no way that the number has increased by 60 million and it is almost inconceivable to believe that a company as big as Shueisha could be off on sales by 25%. Now it looks like Dragon ball left Naruto in the dust but the truth is these numbers cannot be true.

It can also be the other way, when the department was made they used old numbers.

This is incredible, a shame that in my country Slam Dunk is not very well known.
People here prefer Kuroko no Basket, Inazuma Eleven or Haikyuu, because they are younger manga, not old ones.

Sorry for my English.
Slam Drunk is very well known in Brazil, I don't know what you are talking about. That was the reason it was re-released recently after a lot of requests. Inazuma Eleven more popular than Slam Drunk? Don't make me laugh early in the morning...
Kuroko no Basket and Haikyuu are debatable because it is more recent and attractive to the masses, but Slam Dunk is clearly more popular inside the more knowledgeable fanbase.

But Shueisha updated the sales already so it cannot be outdated. It was said to be 230 million before increasing to 240 million in 2016.
Official press release by Toei when Super was announced stated the 230 million in 2015.

Toei is not Shueisha and they are the ones who should explain their numbers. Shueisha is ground truth here, they are the publishers after all.

Maybe they're finally counting digital sales.

So probably Slam Dunk is not known in my town.
Worse that there are people who say that Inazuma Eleven is better than Slam Dunk just because it was broadcast on television, Capitain Tsubasa is also not very well known where I live, because of this I said that there are people who like Inazuma more than Slam Dunk.
I have some friends who know several manga or sports animes, Hajime in Ippo, Kuroko, Haikyuu, Free !, Prince of Tennis among several. But then when I tell them about Slam Dunk they just say "What the fuck is that?".
Thankfully Slam Dunk is being republished in Brazil, I am one of those who are loving to collect.

In fact, it is better to laugh than to cry in Brazil LoL.

True, but problem here doesn't seem to be Toei numbers, but Shueisha.

Toei said that Dragon Ball was 230M in 2015
Shueisha said that Dragon Ball was 240M in 2016 (so it kind of is believable that the series increased 10M in all the world in 1 year)
Shueisha is saying now that Dragon Ball has 300M in 2017(This is an increase of 60M in about 1 year)

Maybe, Dragon Ball Super made Dragon Ball "popular" again all over the world?

It is reasonable when we are talking about print numbers, which is the case, and we know that major projects were born from one date to another, they probably renewed the stock for Dragon Ball Super and the licensing around the world because of this. Print number are not sales, sales are farther down than that.

Back when Shuiesha were posting the MEDIA GUIDE every April, Slam Dunk was selling about 1 million copies a year (2011-2014) there were no major announcements, new adaptations or something among those lines so there is no way it will sell almost 50 million copies in Japan in 3.4 years. IMO this is a worldwide sales figure, not in Japan.

While print is not sales, print is not free. Printing 60 Million copies cost money, and you need to sell a significant amount of that to recoup the money lost and more to get a profit.

It doesn't seem it make much sense that a series got a 60 Million boost in one year, and that increase in popularity wasn't noticed until now.

People seem to think that one thing not being the same and another thing, that they are totally unrelated and independent. That is not the case at all. And certainly not for Print and Sales. You can with the print number reach with a certain degree of confidence the number of Sales.

In Japan around 60% of what is printed is sold in average. So 36M copies sold. Still a huge number to believe the series did in 1 year.

Maybe the problem is the age of people you are talking about. I can see youngers saying that about "Super Onze" because is one of the last famous anime we had on TV.

Slam Dunk is doing very well in this new version here in Brazil. Tks, god.

After so many years milking Dragon Ball and still getting something from it I think that they may be confident that they are going to sell it. There may be some thing that they are counting this time and they were not counting in the last number because it is almost inconceivable that they are mistaken, like, how many times did you see Japanese publishers, even more Shueisha, make such mistake?

Good timing, it will probably match with the best part of the arc, as if it can become any better.

SnS interview came out recently and stated the following:
APA: Who can we expect to be on the 92nd Generation of the Elite Ten Council?

Tsukuda: Soma. But at this point, we still haven’t quite decided just how long we’ll take this story for. We’ve talked about maybe writing through Soma’s graduation from Totsuki Academy. Another idea that’s been tossed around was wrapping up the story before he enters his second year. We’ll probably do an epilogue of some sort, regardless. We still need to discuss how Soma will be depicted once he’s in the Elite Ten.
Yes. It's possible that SnS can end quite soon just like I said not so long ago.
