Before I end this rate officially, I just want to thank everyone who took part in it.

Thank you to everyone who voted, and even to those who didn't, the discussion in this thread has been incredibly interesting and outright entertaining.

Big thanks to my fellow hosts @BluePegasus, @Emperor Spriggan and @Gryffindor, you guys really upped your game in this rating and it wouldn't have been possible without you. The same goes to @Brandish @DiMaria Yesta @Crescent_jinxgrace @Takuan @~Charging Lightning~ and @Belserion, you all did fantastic posts! :super

And in general I want to thank the mods for making this run so smoothly, I know for a fact that this thread easily could have turned to chaos without their intervention. In particular I want to thank @Brandish for sticky-ing the thread, this thread wouldn't have been anywhere near as active if it wasn't for you.

I hope everyone enjoyed that the rate, as now....

This poster was made by @Valhalla777, big thanks to him!

THE EARTH LAND MAGES RATE IS OFFICIALLY OVER!

Irene didn't defeat them by herself. She had Bloodman and Larcade with her.

It was mostly Bloodman doing all the work in the North actually.
I disagree.Sting didn't meet Larcade in the north as he was surprised by Larcade's smell later.

Secondly Bloodman was also unaware of Shadow attacks indicating Rogue didn't fight him.And Holy Attacks work on Bloodman which didn't happen until Levy used it.So if Sting fought him Bloodman would have been in a huge fix.

:notrust. If someone was forever 35 their years of experience and their brain still sharp would make them very knowledgeable. The learning process, or smarts, are earned as the brain is muscle. That's why in most cultures the old are seen as the wisest.

Wendy and Erza only won because Irene lost her marbles and her head wasn't in the game. Just like Manchester United losing to Manchester city. Best feasts =/= winner. Also, Mashima can't let Erza lose, hense destroying an effing metor :notrust

I guess Mavis is smart then... I wonder how many people will actually believe that.

Age doesn't determine your intelligence. It's your ability to think.

The older you are, the more time you have to think. But that doesn't make a 72 year old individual smarter than a 19 year old person. At the end of the day, it's the "ability to think" that speaks for itself.

Saying Irene's head wasn't in the game is a convenient way to explain her defeat.

She seemed pretty confident about beating Erza and Wendy before the fight, so maybe "cocky" is a better word to describe why she lost.

The only known enemy in the North at the time was Bloodman's forces:

Not to mention, Rogue told Gajeel that there were "3 Monsters" in the Northern Front. That means he likely encountered all 3 Spriggans, otherwise he wouldn't have known how many of them were stationed in the north.

Also, Gajeel kind of implied that Bloodman was the main person to wipe out the Sabertooth-Pegasus Alliance when he promised Sting and Rogue to "Return all of their pain and frustration in spades", to which they acknowledged:

:facepalm. How did that information to think get there? Everyone has the ability to think, didn't mean s/he's intelligent.

Her psyche was shown to be cracking, the way she went bat shit when Erza injured her. It was near her womb, which brought painful memories of her trying to enchant herself into Erza, her ultimate weakness. She even turned into a dragon, an allegory of her monsterous self. But hey, I learned to read between the lines and analytical skills not from experience in university :notrust

I don't want to venture too far off-topic with the subject of intelligence, but simply put: It depends on how you think and the amount of effort you put into it, rather than whether you have the capability to do so or not.

Everybody has the ability to think, but not everybody uses it to their full potential. For example, Gray is well-known to make tactical decisions while fighting a battle. Mavis, on the other hand, relies on a bunch of questionable guesswork to get the job done.

I'm not saying Irene is dumb, but I was simply pointing out that her 400+ years of age doesn't necessarily mean she is smarter than Wendy.

And yes, her psyche did seem to crack. But that doesn't account for 100% of her struggle. Throughout most of the fight, she had every opportunity to think clearly.

The "cocky" attitude came first, then the psyche problem started to become relevant later at the end.

Thirdly,Bloodman was shocked on seeing Holy Magic of Levy indicating he didn't fight Sting's with his Holy DS Magic.

Fourthly,Gajeel isn't the reliable source here.He wasn't even there when ST-BP alliance was defeated. He was angry with Bloodman because it reminded him of his own Crucification.

Being able to beat someone doesn't necessarily mean you're stronger than them. This isn't a tournament, we aren't judging match-ups here, we are judging individual power levels, which means DS advantage really should be irrelevant here. If Wendy wasn't literally Irene's perfect counter she and Erza would have gotten stomped.
Unfortunately about 90% of the Power levels are based on that. Otherwise Azir wouldn't be low and Laxus wouldn't be so high.

If this was based upon overall power the ranking would be entirely different IMO.

Shouldn't we ignore feats from irene vs erza and wendy battle. That battle was full of POF and BS.
But then you will have to ignore laxus vs wahl
And gray vs invel
Both were full of pof
Especially laxus vs wahl which was over flowing with bs
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---
Erza + Base Wendy is not a weak combo, I completely agree you.

But is it Top 3? Not even close, in my opinion.

Wendy in her base form isn't that strong. She couldn't even stand in Bluenote's gravity at the beginning of Alvarez Arc.

Erza isn't anything exceptional either, when you compare her to the likes of Natsu, Gildartz, Laxus, Gray, Gajeel, WSDM Sting, and most of the Spriggans.

The fact that Irene struggled against Erza + Base Wendy tells me she is not Top 3 in Earthland.

There were many characters who could easily hold their own against Spriggans.

PIS is kinda irrelevant to me because that applies to everybody.
Erza is definitely exceptional compared to likes of gildarts, gray, laxus, whatever mode gajeel or sting
She is head and shoulder above them in feats. Only natsu has better feats than her.
--- Double Post Merged, ---
Okay we'll leave the Irene portion of this argument because it's pointless arguing. But what makes you think that Laxus can replicate Erza's feats that easily ? I'm pretty sure Erza is faster than Laxus, and her offence is better than his too.
Meteor slashing >>> Red Lighting
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

And Erza knocked Acnologia clean out of the sky but yet she's below characters that have no good feats this arc. I really don't think people take feats like this into consideration anymore, unfortunately.
Laxus is pretty featless
So people just give every feat anyone does and just gives it to him.
Laxus speed is enough to blitz a low tier springgan
Erza speed is enough to dodge high tier springgan spam.
Basically people here are trying to say if you can blitz gmg rufus. You can dodge all gmg jura strikes.
--- Double Post Merged, ---
I'm pretty sure Laxus is faster than Erza. Speed is always omnipresent in Laxus fights, just look at how fast he was moving against Wahl, the scene of dodging bullets, or just generally when he goes lightning mode.

The feat of destroying Irene's meteor is a way better feat than Red Lightning i'll agree with that LOL
In fact Red Lightning isn't Laxus' best attack imo. It was the only attack that could work versus Wahl, due to its properties, but it didn't appear that powerful.
No he is not.
He only blitz a low tier springgan.
Erza kept up with a high tier springgan. Laxus speed feat is far below erza
--- Double Post Merged, ---
I don't know. Personally i think his nuke spell against Ajeel was way more powerful and deadly, but in terms of feats RL has stronger achievement. I guess we'll never know :cookiehand
We already know
Pof laxus lightening that surpasses lightening >>>> laxus ds >> laxus causual nuke

You are just going by aoe
And hype that laxus nuke will do.anything more than just a scratch ajeel
--- Double Post Merged, ---
Universe One isn't an attack.
Universe One is by far Irene's most impressive spell, but this isn't an offensive spell that can be used in battle. Better worded, U1 can't be used to say Irene would beat an opponent. She didn't beat Acno, she just cancelled the fight. That doesn't make her stronger than anyone in battle, though it proves how much MP she has. This was pretty impressive i'll admit.
Her feats in actual battle are lackluster though, from her attacks (that were either dodged, tanked or straight up destroyed) to her defense.
Irene technically won. She removed acno from battle for as long as jellal removed nienhart from the battle.
--- Double Post Merged, ---
I have to agree with this. Human Irene is very powerful for sure, and deserves top 5, but Laxus should have been higher than her. Any top tier character wielding DS Magic should decimate Irene, considering how her fight turned out against Erza and Wendy.
Why.
Human irene >= erza plus wendy
Erza > laxus

So how possibly someone weaker than erza by pretty much all stats beat someone is who is stronger than erza by a lot.

You can't say Irene alone was responsible for defeating both Sting and Rogue. There's no evidence of that. And that'd be discrediting Bloodman and Larcade.

In the most likely scenario, all 3 Spriggans shared equal effort in the annihilation of Sabertooth. If anything, Bloodman played the largest role because his forces were already there intercepting the Sabertooth-Pegasus Alliance.

Why would Irene be the only one fighting when Rogue said that all 3 Spriggans were present?

That doesn't make any sense. Bloodman and Larcade wouldn't just stand there and watch...

Rogue told Gajeel that there were 3 Monsters... The only way he would have known that is if he fought all 3 Spriggans stationed in the Northern Front.

Being shocked doesn't mean anything because Larcade can always pull out new spells that they've never seen before. He was toying with them in the North.

When Gajeel attacked Bloodman, Sting and Rogue acknowledged the words of his promise. They didn't even look surprised and was glad to see Bloodman get hit.

It's heavily implied that Bloodman was partly responsible for the Crucifixion of Sabertooth and Blue Pegasus.

I don't see how she is "head and shoulder above them in feats".

All of the other characters I listed accomplished just as much as she did, if not more.

And you are also forgetting that Sting and Rogue weren't the only Ishgarian forces there.Irene can take care of Twin Dragons while Larcade and Bloodman took care of Minerva and others there.

And I already pointed Sting didn't fight Larcade before.Otherwise he would not have expressed shock on Larcade's smell to Yukino. It clearly betrays his surprise of first time sensing Larcade's smell. The conversation shows he hadn't faced Larcade before. Moreover Larcade was unaware that Sting can eat White Magic. This obviously shows that he didn't fight Sting.

Same with Yukino.

More importantly Sting didn't say," Three monsters defeated me" but "Three monsters defeated their group".

And that's what happened. The entire alliance was decimated by 3 Spriggans...

Both Sting and Larcade were completely unaware of other's abilities. If they had fought then both of them would have been have at least a rudimentary awareness of other's abilities.

Both Sting and Larcade were completely unaware of other's abilities. If they had fought then both of them would have been have at least a rudimentary awareness of other's abilities.

I agree that the rest of Sabertooth and Blue Pegasus had been fighting alongside Sting and Rogue.

I just disagree with the idea that Irene was the Spriggan that defeated Sting and Rogue.

We don't know how Sting and Rogue went down, but it was likely by a combination of several Spriggans.

Sting might not have fought Larcade, but it's possible that Rogue did.

Same with Bloodman, he could've fought one of the twin dragons or both of them.

Going off of Rogue's words, I'm inclined to believe that all 3 Spriggans played a role in their defeat.

I do agree with you that Larcade and Sting fighting is highly unlikely.

I just don't believe that there was sufficient proof to say that Irene alone was responsible for taking down both Sting and Rogue.

The fight was off-paneled, so I'm well aware that I can't prove anything.

But Irene beating both of the twin dragons seems far-fetched in my eyes, hence my doubts.

One more point here .I will show with evidence why neither Rogue nor Sting fight Bloodman also:-

i)When Rogue fought Historia Bloodman in Magnolia,he was shocked on seeing Rogue using Shadow Magic indicating they didn't personally fight before.

ii)Bloodman was shocked on seeing Holy Magic while fighting Gajeel. If he had fought Sting then he would not have been shocked on seeing Holy Magic second time.

So if neither Bloodman nor Larcade fought Twin Dragons then who fought them.Foot Soldiers don't have the strength to defeat them so the only Spriggan left is Irene.

or this is another asspull where mashima is adding things from ass and doesent give two shits about story or powerlevels... there is so many moments with zero logic or proper explanation..

Acnologia not knowing Irene is Dragon is good example...

But then you will have to ignore laxus vs wahl
And gray vs invel
Both were full of pof
Especially laxus vs wahl which was over flowing with bs
.
Well gray in his des mode was proving to be a good match for invel. He was only getting annihialated at base. The POF part was after juvia's fake death which ruined the fight.
Laxus vs wahl was nderwhelming as well. But laxus did use freed's runes to protect himself from wahl's attacks. RL was sure asspull but laxus did nearly oneshotted ajeel, same guy who nearly defeated erza.

Historia Bloodman was referring to Rogue entering his shadow form, not necessarily the magic itself. Rogue might not have used his shadow form while fighting in the Northern Front, which is why it is new technique to Bloodman.

As for the Holy Magic, I was under the impression that Bloodman was surprised at seeing Levy's Solid Script: Shine being a holy attribute magic type. It doesn't necessarily mean that it is the first time Bloodman has witnessed any form of Holy Magic.

And yes, Sting may not have met Larcade before, but that was never the same for Rogue. It's very possible for Larcade to fight Rogue in the North.

Doesn't matter. We already know Bloodman is a tough opponent.Rogue was sure to enter Shadow form.

Bloodman's Second Seal was counted White Magic. It doesn't seem Bloodman was surprised at Levy casting it rather at the magic itself.

Regarding Larcade VS Rogue,I agree there is a chance they fought .But seeing how Larcade too was unaware of Shadow attacks and the way Sting took down Larcade while going shadows I doubt he fought Rogue too.

But anyway I agree my points on Rogue VS Larcade are not strong so there is a legit chance they fought.

Not even close
Gildart accomplished the most. And he only accomplished like half of what erza did.
Laxus and gray feats are comparable to when erza was just getting warm up

In base gray was use less
In des, he only got invel attention.
And in both these cases invel was soo causal
This is below ajeel vs erza. Because erza only had problem when marin helped ajeel or when ajeel went all out
We only had pof gray vs all out invel

Laxus vs wahl was just bs
Laxus had cancer yet wahl offence was soo weak that he couldnt he even put laxus down.
Add laxus suddenly copying other people magic and
Lightening that surpasses lightening. Lol

I dont think that nuke wpuld do much to ajeel at all. Not only it didnt shake ajeel at all. We have no feats of laxus putting him above likes of gajeel or gray.
In the aconologia fight he was as impressive as cobra and gajeel were

So i dont see that hype getting backed up at all

I guess it depends on how you look at Erza's feats.

From my perspective, nothing is out of the ordinary. Gildartz matched August, who is probably one of the most formidable opponents in the entire Alvarez Arc. And he put up a relatively decent fight too, never once faltering.

Laxus and Gray easily have feats on the same tier as Erza. One killed a Spriggan while being double-handicapped while the other demolished a Spriggan in mostly base form & CQC.

hehe that depends where you put Irene who Erza fought and tanked her attacks.

90% of fans put her above every Spriggan bar August.

That's correct. I'm already expecting Human Irene to be ranked #1 anyways.

But who knows, maybe somebody can surprise me..

Truth be told, I'm actually more interested in seeing what Irene's lowest score will be since I'm predicting that the majority of voters are going to rank her high.

Humain Irene definitely doesn't deserve to be #1, not after the nerfs she's been given for this event.
