Monster ? 100% faithful, its madhouse also heard that that was the condition for Urasawa to agree for an anime adaptation ^^ its quite old though, im fine with it but people may not like this
(i dont know for people who dont live in EU, But where i am, eating sausages is one of the very wrong cliché of Germans) well i dont blame Urasawa for this because i guess its not easy to get a knowledge for such a different culture than Germany for Japanese, we probabaly see Japan and japanese in a way most wrong/ clichéic angle mainly due to a lot of misinterpretations possibly due to manga/anime portraying. @WithYouInSpirit love it a lot, one of my fave, so far, best things are the whole picture books thing, that was pure genius !
also historical background with secret police and also orphanage things, Johan Liebert character, some great characters (but there are some blands ones too.) but still as i said somewhere in the manga wars theres a lot of stuff that are far from being perfect, i guess we love it a lot because the work is finished and it gives a satisfying feeling, the ending is as great as fma's. Just yesterday a teacher said us again that a conclusion is what makes your writing memorable, as long as its done perfectly well, even if you didnt do perfect things in the body of your work, its the last thing examiner will read, and its definitely true, thats what gives a final good impression or a wrong one.
i love Monster a lot but still im far from being indulgent with some certain things despite being one of my fave.
theres many very convenient situations, like the det who spills secret police things to a "random blondie" in the bar ( who ofc happen to be johan) i found this quite cheap as an excuse, where's the professional discretion especially for a det ? also many coincidental situations, that makes some things quite forced sometimes. i think if it was read on weekly basis release like people read today other mangas, i think it would have been criticized a lot.
I love a lot charcters like Lunge, Dieter, Eva ( who i didnt like at 1st but who get some interesting developement) while i dislike Anna (i liked her at 1st then she start being too boring for me) and Tenma , i dont dislike him but i dont like "the too nice, too perfect side " of him.
Also why do we get to see sausages in basically every single meal they ate, its like they try to say : see we're in germany !! that cliché is so wrooong imo

Well i honestly love things like Gintama and Monster and stuff, but i do think sometimes they are over hyped, and what i dislike a lot is that Mal is unfortunately a walking hypetrain (meaning theres many great things or gems which have less visibility because its not trendy enough) .
