So we can say Black Clover's sales are increasing ~3K per week since October, rare are the week that all the volumes are out of TOP 350~400 (not considering digital sales of course).
I think this is further strong evidence that a 50+ episode anime is the best way to generate lasting sales, people are still buying vol1, we cant say the same for many of the other anime that premiered during the same season of BC.

Is it? I don't know.

I am genuinely curious just how many volumes are usually sold in the 100+ positions.

Is its popularity as explosive as Asta yells? :3c

Let's see what this TOC brings to us... It is too early to see Act-Age getting a early CP, so not interested that much.

Let's do some math:

Each BC's volume is selling, at minimum, 2,5K per week since October, and we are in February.

2.5X4 (number of weeks in a month) = 10K
10KX5 (number of months until now, October, November, December, January, February) = 50K

If the growing stay like that and considering it will stop when the anime ends (in October too), we can do:

50Kx8 (March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October) = 400K of boost each volume.

And again, that's just physical sales. That's pretty good to me.

Your equation is flawed. If one volume sells 10k in 1 month it would sell 120k in 12 months (1 year). Every volume doesn't start to get a plus of 50k in backlog sales for every month from march onward, when it took them 5 months to get to the 50k line.
In the end you could hope for an increase of 120k in backlog sales for every volume from october 2017 until october 2018, but not 400k.

The increase is not linear and it will not increase in sales the same every month, it will actually tend to decrease throughout the months when the hype starts to dissipate.

You're right, I did a mistake here (I'm not math fan also). I apologize.

Of course we can't say for sure the sales will be the same for every month from now on, that was just an example assuming they'll.

Well it probably is selling at least 300-500K a week since 60-80% of jump manga are sold digitally.

Yes, and the reason we haven't gotten the ToC yet is because WSJ just went bankrupt.

How accurate is Bakuman? I ask because I remember when the main 2 dudes first went to publish their one shot (or series, cant remember) and the editor broke their rough draft down as to why it was bad and how nobody will care for it if he puts it in the magazine. So if editors do that I really wonder how they look at something like U19 or Full Drive and say, "Yup this definitely has potential, just do this and this and youre good to go". I'm sure they've read tons of manga, highly likely more than we have, and their sole purpose is to help these manga succeed and give suggestions and make it better, but when its published they still flop with their story telling and characterization. Full Drive has one of the dullest MC's I've ever seen. How can any editor look at this MC and say that he'll be likable to kids?

Shortage of talent. Having to fill in the gaps in the magazine with something when something else ends. Lack of people that can keep up with the insanity of deadlines in the biggest manga magazine, the pressure is probably too much for young talents and for people that have never ventured into weekly serializations. It's pointless if editors have a lot of knowledge about manga if they can't get a mangaka to work with. Promising talent is out there, that's for sure, but the competition is legit fierce amongst publishers to get their hands on that talent. Then you have mangaka that can keep up with the deadlines, but they can't even make a manga that gets enough positive reception from a young audience, if your story can't even hook kids at all, then it's time to take a different approach.

Another reason why WSJ might be currently struggling to find young talents is because those young talents are probably too intimidated by WSJ and they'd rather try their luck out at a different publisher. It's no secret that the average new manga in WSJ only lasts 2-3 volumes.

Edit: These are my thoughts on why things like U19 and Full Drive get serialized. WSJ simply don't have too many options and they don't have much to chose from, the magazine can't afford to have an empty slot.

The week after next. Anyone want to place bets?

If editors actually knew what would be succesful, they'd write the manga themselves. All they can do is gamble on what crosses over their desks. Of course it's a very hit or miss process.
As for the misses, the first response to Full Drive around here was raves about the art style and U19 had a ton of stuff going after the Jump start. Not hard to see why editors took a chance on them.
