Im pretty sure im not passing this cuz Lightning aint really a waifu material, plus she is hated by half of the FF community, plus the hate for XIII isnt helping there either, still she has her charms that could be kinda kinda passable in this tournament and i will try to find them ... though in the end game it wont matter that much

Biggest question before i begin, why did i nominate a character like Light?

Lets just say curiosity. No bigger motives, no winning chances in mind, nor was i choosing between the FF female cast while ranking them who is better. At first when i decided to participate I had also other waifu ideas in mind, other female characters (FF and notFF) that are actual real waifu material, but in the end i wanted to find out how would Lightning (a character that i actually like and am very fond of --> dont judge me) stand in the MH community, especially as a "waifu". Lightning, a character that is anything but a real waifu and is hated by half of the community, though in the end is still considered a waifu by many many other gamers (just ask the eastern hemisphere). Interesting right, but why ... there must be a reason why so many consider someone like Lightning a waifu, right? Either some people are absolutely crazy, or the meaning waifu means something else to them, or they have more types of waifus, or in the end they just enjoy the character and with a cringe open mind consider the characters full potentional as some sort of waifu cuz the story and character arc just clicks with the gamer and they kinda fell in "love" with the said character, or something else entirely im not aware of, basically all it boils down to is preference and what someone else considers what a waifu is for him/her, who am i to judge someone elses prefered choice and vice versa. Me, im a bit of everything i just listed.
Im a pretty old gamer and i went through countless games through middleschool, highscool and college and i was never gung-ho on despising game characters, even though they werent that good. There are little game characters i absolutely hate from franchises that im a fan of, and Lightning isnt one of those characters. I never hated her character, but actually really liked her and found great enjoyment playing as such a strong female lead (if you disagree, fine by me, you do you, i fully understand you). And as a reasult she became one of my top female characters in gaming (shocking, but mind you, i said one of, in case someone asks "oh but what about that one, your top is trash" ... trust me, that character is somewhere on my top fav list, cuz like i said im a pretty old gamer and i played some shit) and in a way one of my gaming waifus, but not a waifu in the usual sense but in a weird almost guilty pleasure way ... as weird as it might sound.

Soooooo enough of this F-ing cringe and holy gospels and lets try to find some shit and defend this "waifu" of mine ...

Spoiler: Part 2: Strong female

Strong female character and gravitas
From a good waifu standpoint Lightning doesnt have the most necessary qualities. She is a Cloud and Squall type of brooding grumpy hardass thats mostly good for fightning, but the reason she fights is for her family, so thats a plus i hope. There are a bunch of female characters that only know how to fight and are still very loved and in some cases considered as waifus. Lightning in the end is the same, she slays man, monsters, gods and other deities, but all for the sake of protecting and saving her sister and her friends.

So at the very least there is a potentional plus here, right? But unlike those other female characters, she is hated cuz of horrible personality issues (which could get resolved in a way, ill come to that very shortly) and others jsut say cuz the game sucks (not that fair of a judgement, but its understandable ). Also another potentional plus in my eyes, she is an incredibly powerfull female character that can go toe to toe with almost anyone, she aint a damsel, and she never will be.

So if you had a waifu that can protect you and kick some serious ass thats a plus right, or a minus if that hurts your pride as a man, but you can always ask for private lectures right Oh, and she does all that while looking this stunning.

In the story she was very hardcore, and a grumpy person, and a real bitch at first ...

... but after some time she opens up and actually acts like a mother figure and mentor to some. But there was a reason for her initial behaviour, as bad as it may sound. Her initial behaviour was the result of her parents dying when she was very young, so in order to protect her even younger sister Serah, she had to toughen up and become a parent. As a kid, not being aware of this, she basically threw away her "emotions" and the joy of carefree life and acted like a hardcore overprotective parent that wanted to protect her only family in a world where you could get cursed and fucked up by gods and become a monster. But later in the game she finally opens up to the main group and regains some "emotions". And by the very end she actually becomes a decent person by realizing her errors, and actually shows some heart and smiles for a change.

So where are the waifu qualities here? I guess if i count her ending personality with some older personality traits she could be described as a tough as nails and kind big-sis and a mother figure that is actually responsible and caring and that will fuck up anyone and everyone who messes with her family and friends. Could that be a plus too?

Oh and she loses her emotions in the latter half of the trilogy again cuz God chose her as her puppet to F up humanity(dont ask what happened cuz this shit came out of nowhere and even i had a wtf face for the longest ). And by stripping her of emotions, God created basically a GOTH LOLI called Lumina who is very goofy, flirtatious, jumpy and in your face girl. Basically a younger version of Lightning, before her parents died, a version of her that shows us what she would look like and behave if she never casted her "emotions" out to begin with. Dont know what people think about that, but in my opinoin it was an interesting contrast to the robot that Light became in the third game.

So spoiler alert, by the end of the trilogy Light becomes united with her emotions again, and this time for good and by the looks of it becomes a very relaxed and happy woman who is finally at peace with herself ...

... and who you would actually invite to some coffee with no fear of her being grumpy or trying to carve you up like a sardine In my eyes by the very end of the trilogy she finally somehwat becomes a woman you could call a waifu. I guess, thats still iffy ... but you can give a person a brake and let him imagine right. So looking at her final personality there could be a plus right?

Joke waifu qualities, or are they ....
By the looks of it, she is a pro when it comes to driving a Nissan, so at the very least she can drive you anywhere, but only if your on her good side. Plus is you havent a drivers licence your good to go. That should be a plus too right ....

Also, according to another comercial she does modelling. She is a model in the Louis Vuitton brand, so if you like fashion, models and do modelling for a living i guess that could be a plus too, i think ...

.... thats basically it as far as any waifu qualities go. She aint no devoted house waifu, she doesnt cook, she is kinda tsundere-ish, she needs a good amount of time to even socialize with someone, oh and did i mention she is a bitch at times, and of course other waifu qualities that are most essential. But all this is mostly through the games, but not the final outcome that we actually dont know that much about. We can almost but only guess ...

Most people look at her on the outside and see only a hard woman, leader of a clan, and a war goddess — immediately they become intimidated by her.
The only one who truly understands her and what she goes though is Kazuma,
He sees her for what she really is — kind, with too big a heart, funny, courageous, smart.​

Interesting. And I actually mean that. Not every day you get to see an actually defense of Lightning. Which is fascinating to me as somebody that gave up on FFXIII on account of it sucking.

But you make a pretty good argument for the Oneesan Tsundere appeal. Well done.

I am voting against lighting. No clue of who the other waifu is but WTH. While lighting is by any logic the second best character in FFXIII (second only to fang of course), she is a character in one of the worst FF stories out there. The actual game is a lot of fun (once you are done with the excruciating 20 hour tutorial) but storywise lighting is just a downer. For all the character development she has in ffxiii, which is not much, all we get is a lackluster her becoming somewhat less of a bitch. And in all honesty, even fang who is a superior character (and waifu) is not all that great either.

Fact is a lot of fans initially hate on Bishamon (more so for anime-only than manga) with how angry she was at the very beginning. She was a person so lost in her vendetta against Yato that she seemed irrational and hot headed. This is truly far from the truth as she’s one that takes her job of protecting the innocent very seriously. Like a mother bear, some of her harshness is because she wants to protect the people she cares for so much. And I am sure everyone has seen the mother bearness triggered in real life.

I personally loved Bishamon during the second season of Noragami when we really got to see her history. And also we get to see how motherly she is towards her shinkis.

Years earlier, Bishamon had many spirit subordinates. This led her to creating two her clans with Bisha positioned as a mother or a close sibling to her shinkis. Like a better/more caring Fubuki

That is the first instance we see her become a more rounded individual as she easily becomes attached to her shinkis and is truly pained mentally if she is to lose anyone because the spirits aren’t weapons (wonder if anyone can catch my reference here)

Except this had a bad side...

... because of their numbers, she was unable to effectively watch over them, and they became corrupt.

There is a special bond between a god and their spirits, the god feels everything the spirits feel, with so many of them having impure thoughts, Bidhamon grew very sick.

Unbeknownst to her, one of her few pure spirits, Kazuma, requested that Yato slaughter all of her corrupt subordinates. Yato, heeding this request, did so, and Bishamon vowed revenge against him.

After the time her first clan got slaughtered, Bishamon still adopted wayward spirits. Sometimes she was so busy saving them and working that she forgot what was really important, getting to know them. She tries to protect herself more by distancing herself from her spirits and being very job oriented, but it’s because like a good waifu — she’s just trying to build a better life for her new family.

This changes after the drama with Kazuma where Bishamon was being blighted a second time by her spirits becoming impure.
Her character growth comes after nursing Kazuma back to health, realizing what he did for her — she asks him to be her Exemplar once again, and he gratefully accepts. She determines that sometimes you can’t save everyone but you should not lose yourself in trying to be the hero. She then opens up to her other regalia and friends more and overall becoming a truly great character. She also moves from being someone that’s judgemental to someone that’s tolerant to people for their actions. All in all - a true pleasure to read and watch about.

She has all the qualities of being a wonderful waifu - badass yet sweet; a bit sadistic, always caring, beautiful inside and out, funny, responsible, nurturing, many layers to get to know.

As long as she doesn't talk, and you pay no attention to her asinine backstory, she is pretty hot though. Like if she was wearing Bishi's kinda weird and difficult to explain bikini top and miniskirt outfit The results would be...extremely uplifting to say the least.

Though I can't blame anybody for picking Bishi over her. FF13 is trash. But so is Noragami's Kazuma X Bishi. So it all evens out in my mind.
