Going to add onto the points from yesterday with this one
-She is strong

Hancock is widely considered to be extremely powerful by friend and foe alike. Ruling beside her sisters, Hancock has power over Amazon Lily and the rest of the Kuja tribe. As the empress and captain of the tribe, Hancock is the strongest Kuja warrior. The Kuja believe that "strength is beauty", and since all members of the tribe state that she is the most beautiful in the world, they believe she is immensely powerful, and the strongest among the entire tribe.
And that's when you realize she can kick ass to save you as well No damsel in distress nonsense wherever Hancock is involved Something which also carries a great deal when you realize that Hancock is stronger than her beloved. I remember this point being brought up by someone in the first round of Shirayuki vs Hancock, and Id like to raise it up again. Hancock being strong is something that counts towards how much she can fight for, and protect Luffy. She fought off a Vice Admiral of him, and also beat out Pacifista that were after him (Consider at the time Luffy couldn't take down any of them by himself, and he was close to getting to where Ace was)

She is strong













The most important fact is she is independent and normal character. Nothing abnormal in her traits of character. She is very much like a real life flesh and blood woman.

She owns her actions so completely, even her bad ones. It’s rare to see women be allowed to have done morally questionable bad things without them being framed as a) completely evil or b) as having been coerced or manipulated. Riza refuses to let anyone thing she didn’t have power over her own mistakes and decisions. Regardless of circumstances, she acted the way she did out of her own free will. She will not let herself off the hook or allow herself the “following orders excuse”.

In fact, Riza is so determined to make her own choices and take responsibility that she demands to be severed from the influence of any men who tried to control her or use her as a tool.

This is scene is so completely and utterly Riza’s story.


A woman bluntly calling out a man for using the knowledge she gave him poorly, while admitting she made the same mistakes. Moreover, she is demanding reciprocity- she did him a favor by giving him that gift, now she wants him to do her a favor by helping her destroy that gift.Can you imagine how much self independence Hiromu Arakawa gave her,not many mangakas do that.

She cannot erase the fact she chose to give Roy Flame Alchemy, that this was her decision alone, and there were consequences to that. Rather than running away from that choice or disowning it, Riza decides she will own that decision and take control. She cannot live with herself letting things be as they are or ignoring what she did. This was the first big choice she made on her own. She will MAKE something good come out of all the bad. Flame Alchemy was her gift, and now she will monitor how it is used, she will be involved in directing and guiding it and making sure it is employed in a way that betters the country from now on, the way she wanted it to be. This is how she can move forward. This is how she can own her choices- by seeing them through to the finish, sticking to those ideals she believed in rather than throwing them away, taking control of her choices rather than letting them control her.

Riza explicitly does not follow Roy’s orders when she disagrees with him. She speaks up and refuses to follow orders when she disagrees, proud of her stubborn nature. She also gives him suggestions. And Roy values her input, trusts her and usually ends up following what she says. After all, he’s made it clear he’s not going to make any huge decisions without her full support.

Riza’s speech to Roy when she threatened to shoot him has similar layers. The exchange is:

“And once you shoot me, what will you do then?”

“I have no intention of living a comfortable life by myself. After this battle is over, I will erase myself from this world along with the flame alchemy that drove good men to madness.”

Riza may need Roy to acheive her dreams and live her life in a way she can accept, but he needs her just as much for the same thing. He can’t fight and can’t use his power without her. Arakawa makes this as clear as she possibly can by having Riza literally be his eyes, literally be the person who guides, directs, and allows him to use his flame alchemy.

But fact of the matter is, while Riza may come across as more down-to-earth and badass, Boa is this beautiful, strong woman who is secretly completely awkward and adorably horrible at talking to a guy, which you wouldn’t expect from someone like her. She also is made to be a waifu. No she isn’t everyone’s waifu but for the specific person she loves, she would do anything for. If we are looking at wife qualities, I have a hard time imagining either girl in the role of happy homemaker but for Boa — she will go to the ends of the earth to do stuff for Luffy. Because it’s not about which is the better character at the end of the day, but which is a better waifu, and which inspires more romance in the audience.
