Depends on what mainstream hit means. One of the biggest changes that needs to happen is the way sales are counted since digital is becoming bigger year by year. Another thing to consider is the rate at which we get 200k sellers from Jump. Since 2014, we got 3 so far. Its been 1 per year from 2014-2016. 2017 seems to be the black sheep with the biggest sellers not even breaking 100k in the top 50 Oricon. Jujutsu might break 100k soon but we need to see its growth trend.

Bokuben and Dr. Stone didn't break 100k? I thought that they did already since they debut with ~60k and maybe with some legs they surpass it.

This is only when in the top 50 and so far both have yet to break 100k in this top 50. The eventually do break it but never here.

Why's it have to be at a con? Have they announced any simulpubs at a con? A this point I assume Viz simulpubbing either Jujutsu Kaisen or Act-Age is pretty much a no though. Maybe Alice or the one with the long name but now I kinda just expect them to leave the spot open until something really popular starts that they don't have a backlog for.

It doesn't but imo it would be better to announce at a con. I mean more publicity right? Yeah they'll probably wait for another series to come along that they know will probably be good for marketing (at least better than the others) in the states. I'm still holding out for Act Age tho lol

They really should just bring it over. Its much better than Ziga ever was and gore shouldn't really be a problem. The only thing I can think of is that the mangaka wants to do it in plus and if so I'll respect their decision. Obviously people will be left in the dust but they can simply restart it. This is of course a pipe dream and the behind the scenes mechanics are probably not so simple.

Never, unless I missed a series. And most likely it never will which saddens me as there are some really good series there that could do much better if they were given much more exposure, even if its not WSJ.

not sure about WSJ but Kaguya Sama Love is War did I think from Young Jump's digital site to the magazine it self.

It's common enough for other magazines to transfer a popular series from a smaller magazine to the big main weekly one. WSJ never seems to do that though.

oh thanks for that. I thought it came from the same source as One Punch Man before moving to Young Jump proper.

I guess Jump having a significantly larger reader-base than other physical magazines can be one reason. They might not want to suddenly drop a new series and if they restart it, it might throw off some of the original fans.

Yeah, it makes sense. Does anyone have such numbers for 2017? I'm quite curious to see how it was for Cover, Lead CP and CP.

Things like "Souma/Soma" or "Zumou/Sumo" confuse me (http://pharaodopazo.blogspot.com is incomplete, I had to use other sources), so some numbers may be wrong. Plus, special covers were not considered.
