A while back we had argued about the number of floors the hell train skips or travels to. Additionally it’s called an Express which implies that it skips floors (as express trains skip stops), and yet Shibisu and Hatz etc got to the final station BEFORE the train did.

So was the train delayed after the Name station or is it not really an express train at all? It seems to me that the train was simply built as a method to keep and protect secrets (Rice Pot, HF) and doesn’t really get Regulars to the end floor any faster than normal climbing.

The only other way I see this as possible is that Shibisu and Co already qualified to go to higher floors and could take the middle area up.

Garam told Baam that the Tower is full of lies: Zahard's real intentions about the princesses, the Hidden floor, the truth about the FOD... let's take it the Hell Train was just another lie (to hide important truths ).

There has been something odd about the hell train route since the start. SIU has made the point that the hell train gets from floor 35 to 43 but also that it lets you climb six floors. To add to that, we haven't been told what floor the final station is in afaik.

Let's just hope SIU doesn't get mixed up.

I don’t think it’s that SIU has been mixed up. I would bet it’s some mixture of retcon, mistranslation, and poor story telling. Not to say that this arc hasn’t been fun to read, but how can people climbing the Tower in a normal way beat the train? Koon had to call in a favor to freeze it in place before in order to catch it. I am willing to just ignore this and move on, but I hope SIU addresses it briefly.

  • When Quant gave the explanation on the Hell Express, he mentioned that it lets you go up 6 Floors.[3] If you catch the train on the 35th Floor, that means you would end up on the 41st Floor and not the 43rd Floor, as Yihwa later read.[2] SIU mentioned that neither explanation was wrong, with the reason being explained in the future.[36]
That is what is in the wikia. It kinda reads like SIU has something planned. And the case remains that no one currently in the hell train has said where is the last station.

Hmm. Well maybe it has something to do with what’s going to happen at the last station - do we know anything about the owners of the floors 40-45?

Maybe it’s owned by Po Bideau, something that would certainly fit in with all 3 orders being taken care of at once.

Imho, they did spend a lot of time on FoD and the former conductor was killed by Yuri. They could Very well be travelling really fast and making excessively long stops that make up for the reduced climb delay.

Also, must be noted that trains were always the fastest travel method, but robbers always caught up to them by horse in order to rob them. You just gonna have to work 10x harder to catch up, not that its unreachable. That's How I see it.

I guess thats noting the average speed one takes to pass through floors. Lesso and hatsu are like elites so they prolly rushed through the test without any retries and took minimal time to complete the quests

what if it's just a lack of information, and some mistranslations.
If you want to climb up through lvl 35 to 44, you'd have to pass 8 tests, as there is no test on the floor of death. 8 tests, that's a long way to go...
But if you manage to take the train, you can climb up to the same place, lvl 44, by just taking 6 tests. it's 2 tests that you don't have to pass, AND you have the chance to save your data on the hidden floor (at least you HAD that chance...). IIRC, the tests were passed on the train...

I think the logic lie somewhere here... The train doesn't stop on EACH level, but on 6 of them.
So it’s actually, an express train, as it skips several stops. ;)

That possibility has been considered; the issue at hand is that the Train is supposed to take its riders through 6 FLOORS (and not 6 floor tests). If team Baam boarded it at the 37th floor (Horse station ), then it's logical for them to quit it at floor 44 (without counting floor 43); but then, team Rachel boarded it on the 35th floor but still haven't quit it, which makes them go through 8 floors! !!

My explanation is that anyone who boarded the train was supposed to quit it after going through 6 floors only, depending on the station at which he got into it. But then, FUG messed up the Train in order to favor White's coming back, plus the absence of a test administrator (whose job was to teleport regulars in or out of the Train, according to the train's rules) made it possible for the Train riders to stay after crossing 6 floors.

So then, the Train actually goes from the 35th floor to the 44th floor, but it's riders were supposed to quit it after traveling 6 floors ; as simple as that ! (Quant and Yihwa were both right in what they said).

That’s a new one and could be.

@OneEye,
that's a good explanation you got here. although you missed my point when you write:
...the Train is supposed to take its riders through 6 FLOORS (and not 6 floor tests). ...
What if that's a mistranslation? we are use to mistranslation with line... that was my point. ;)
But I like yours too.

I took it not to be a mistranslation because Quant and Yihwa said two different things ( Quant said one could go from floor 35 to 41; Yihwa entered at floor 37 and said she would quit at 44). And SIU said both were correct.
