I had issues with that tbh '-' After the talk with Howard about Chuck. Felt out of character, imo.
Hmm, yeah. I guess you could see it that way. But that incident left him a changed man, a broken man. I don't think he really knew what to do with all of that happening. Especially not with Howard talking Chuck up like that, Jimmy knew better. Chuck's an asshole.

Did you like season 1 at least?
It was meh - but I dunno what else to watch, or rather, don't want to make a choice from the list I have...

but you.. kind of have to see the trainwreck it becomes.
Pretty sure I saw that during season one.

Rick's personality is just too 2d.
He's the typical 'hero cop' archetype, which people who don't know how to write morally ambiguous characters falls into easily.
Even the people I thought might become 'grey' turned out to fall firmly into the typical 'goodie'/'baddie' roles.

Characters like his are why I really dislike most American comics (DC and Marvel I mean. Not smaller, more independent, publishers); all the characters are [with very few modifications] pretty much interchangeable.

It's a crying shame.
I really wanted to like this series.

One of the best things about zombies is that they encourage interesting character progression and force unexpected changes in group dynamics.
It's actually a great setting (zombie 'apocalypse' I mean), one which is often criminally, carelessly, and clumsily, utilized [yeah, I love alliteration, and what?!?]

It's a pity that few competent writers ever try to tackle it.

Speaking of that, I'd love to see a zombie story in a medieval setting.
I think it makes more sense - as, let's be fair, these 'walkers' could never lead to an apocalypse in the real world, but might be able to in a 'less developed' one.

Chuck was an asshole, yeah. But Jimmy was always hopelessly feeling guilty for anything. Felt weird to see him getting relieved with Howard's reveal.

There's a place just downstairs that grills meat, the smell is entering the house... I feel like my dog when my mom is cooking dinner.

One of the best things about zombies is that they encourage interesting character progression and force unexpected changes in group dynamics.
The summary of the show:

1-People group to fight zambos. They form Team A.
2-They join a bigger group.
3-Bigger group is corrupt in some way or Team A just fucks up the status quo. Some people in Team A die escaping while recruiting some new members. An important rule is that no 2 black dudes are allowed to be in the team at the same time, as there is only one Black Mage role in the party.
4-Back to 2.

Repeat for several seasons

Rick...changes rather drastically after the first couple of seasons, and after a major event at the end of Season 2. I won't spoil anything though. But he is definitely not a white hat throughout the entire season. In fact, a major theme is him and the survivors sort of becoming the type of people they fought with in earlier seasons, and that the apocalypse sort of "demands" that if you want to survive, etc.

I still enjoyed Season 2, but a lot of people rank it pretty low since the show seemed to scrambling after Darabont was fired. I'd say that the show is a really good watch up until Season 5, after that the writing really starts to suffer. I'm still watching because I'm a comic reader and I have an interest in seeing certain things adapted. Where TWD differs from something like GoT is the show didn't start out being a faithful 1:1 adaptation, as Darabont wasn't interested in that. In fact, the comic became more faithful overall as the show went on.

Let me choose?! :zomg

I really liked the first season, but only when I rewatched it, first time around I enjoyed it, but whatever.

Rick, or at least the actor I guess, has some brilliant moments in the series, but the more attention a character got the more I hated them.
Glenn is a fan-favorite of everyone, but he gets largely ignored in my opinion, so that might be why. You can't get fed up with a character you don't see.

And I definitely agree with that. I've been getting into American comics lately, but I try to ignore the superhero ones. The limited ones I read, but even those I mostly drop. I don't know how to explain it, but from comics I find American ones some of the worst in the ways of lay-out and story-telling. I'd take most manga or EU comics above almost every US comic. The fact that most characters (and stories) feel interchangeable is a big part of that. I get that Spider-Man's story is fun. But reboot it every other few months and years, but still keep the same main-story.. That just doesn't work for me.

One of the best things about zombies is that they encourage interesting character progression and force unexpected changes in group dynamics.

Zombie Apocalypse is definitely interesting, and I'd prefer it to be a pure drama. There's no real need for gore, action or adventure. Show us the psychological consequences an event like this has.

One set in an alternative period than our modern world, I would love that! There's another zombie show, which gets a lot of kudos for stuff they do right, Z Nation, but I have yet to see it, so I'm not sure if you're better of or not. No, scratch that, it's pretty much impossible for it to be worse.

Chuck was an asshole, yeah. But Jimmy was always hopelessly feeling guilty for anything. Felt weird to see him getting relieved with Howard's reveal.
I guess this all depends of your interpretation of that whole episode, Grace though the same about it as you. Clearly I disagreed. :lmao

There's 8 seasons of this?!?
:gwah
Season 9 is on it's way.

The spin-off has 4 seasons now with a 5th on it's way. And believe it or not, the characters are equally stupid.
Even though I found some of them more interesting than most of the main series.

I sort of have a morbid curiosity with the series going forward though. This last season saw them stray majorly from the source material with killing a major character off, and next season there's at least one more instance of that. Whether the show can recover and survive with these kinds of things is interesting to me from a narrative standpoint. Plus there's a new showrunner, and generally the show "improves" in a way after that.

We're actually picking it up again for those same reasons, not investing in it, just morbid curiosity. My wife dropped it S8E02, I dropped it after the first half ended.
But with all the news of main players leaving, I'm very curious what they're going to do.

Same goes for the FtWD, they changed their main cast up entirely this past season.

Go for it - though, I'd prefer for it to be on Netflix if possible (just due to me paying for this account and wanting to use it)

I'll probably start it when back from Japan, however.
That's one of the reasons why I am sticking with TWD - I don't want to start something, then leave it alone for 3 weeks [if it's any good].

Why im a big Spawn fan....one of the most intriguing American comic book characters....
Same with Preacher is something fresh and new but the show is not living up to it.

But no, I'm not really sure if the tv show ever really deserved it's place in pop culture. AMC certainly doesn't deserve it. The reason they're able to have shows like Better Call Saul or anything else is largely due to how much money they've made off of TWD. And the last couple of seasons have seen them getting stingy with shitty budget stuff and contract disputes. Makes me sad what this last arc could have been with better budget, because it's just that good in the comics. But with this upcoming arc it could be interesting again since there's a lot of interesting concepts. Plus, the theme/tone of the comics changes a bit around this time too. Sort of moving on from being struggling vagabonds, to re-establishing society, etc. Which I always found interesting in post-apocalyptic stories.

First thing that came to mind (because you mentioned Netflix) was Altered Carbon.
One season of 10 eps so far, season 2 confirmed already.

It's a dystopian science-fiction neo-noir cyberpunk action drama thriller.
'Nuff said?

@Stormsfury and I found it a fantastic show. Although the cinematography is a mixed bag.
Everything looks gorgeous, but in a lot of scenes they just couldn't decide on an angle or something. Felt weird at times.

At least watch season 3 and 4 IMO. Some people were definitely annoyed by season 2, I do remember that. The show moved to more than 6 episodes from it's first season, they switched showrunners, so there were definitely some growing pains.

Nah, that's just a red herring IMO. If both shows make AMC money, there's no reason to combine them.
