They need urgently a gag series, with Gintama gone the only comedy series left is Tanaka Seiji and it seems that one is already dying. I´m actually excited for this batch of series. Also, there´s still one spot left that probably won´t be a comedy one.

I guess Jump is desperate, or at least seems so, to have a decently successful gag/comedy series now that Gintama, one of their pillars of gag manga is gone. Tanaka is supposedly a gag manga but I don't see too many people that are into it. Alice is basically air and gives me the same impression as Momiji, meaning none. This probably has happened in the past but usually there is at least 1 series you can remember every time new serializations come in, for good or for worse. This is a first for me where I remember none of them until you show me the TOC. Heck I can remember Takamagahara, though I have to think a little but I can't remember Invade you's japanese name.

2)My hero acadamia
3)Black clover
4)Kimetsu no yaiba

The problem is, getting a successful comedy or gag series seems to be very difficult.

The last 2 rounds were very forgettable so I hope there is something I will be able to remember this time around.

Hopefully the last slot isn't one of those veteran oneshots...

She never said that. But she did basically do a face reveal when she drew her mascot taking off its mask/head.
About Jujutsu's mangaka, Akutami.
Found the tweet I was talking about, turns out it was from a fan account. Still, I'd rather not go around correcting people on the gender of the mangaka when we don't even know for sure. Like the tweet says, a drawing is just a drawing.

Come on, for what other reason would the author go out of her way to do a shy looking face reveal drawing of her own mascot character?

As an author, you choose to draw yourself as a cyclops cat thingy creature. Then in one of the later oneshots it is revealed the cat creature is actually a girl in a suit, on one of those pages where we get some information about the author.

I think assuming the author is a she is a safer bet.

Yeah and as someone pointed out here, "kun" isnt only for men.
Yes, usually for men but lately it's also used for women whose work is recognised by her male bosses or colleagues, IIRC.
Also....

I highly doubt the mangaka would lie to the audience of a new series like that. There's nothing to gain from that

Akutami is a female. Just end it here.

If sales fell down in every earthquake in Japan, the manga industry would die.

Revolutionary thought but maybe if there’s been no explicit statement from an author don’t worry about it at all? Hoshino Katsura used male pronouns in all back matter like right up till she made an appearance at a con, and she’s not a rarity. An author illo is something, sure, but it ain’t a hill to die on.
Also when in doubt, the singular they can mean that no-one is wrong, and saves the creepiness of arguing about a stranger’s gender

Maybe you find it creepy. I find that illustration to be a pretty good statement from the author. I don't see why we can't talk about it.

I mean absolutely talk about the illo, just don’t be like wildly into the idea that it must be that way because of one thing, or get too hung up on speculation.
Like I’ll say this: I personally hope they are a woman, because Shonen Jump has like a disproportionately low amount of female authors compared to a lot of other shonen mags, and more are always welcome.

I care more about the quality of the manga rather than the gender of the author. Who cares about disproportions? If you make a good manga, it will get its chance to shine.
