Watched the Osaka vs Williams tennis match - I really can't see for the life of me how the argument of sexism or racism stands.

Perhaps male tennis players would have been treated more leniently on the 3rd warning... but it was still her 3rd warning


To me, it looked like Serena was just throwing a hissy fit - it happens, I guess, especially when you are so close to the end (and have so much hanging on the line).

I'd be on her side (not that she was right) if only there wasn't all this bandwagoning going on.

It's like people are desperate to see others lessening her obvious talent through sexism and racism - two accusations which, in this particular case (this match, I mean), I really can not see...

An umpire simply is doing his job,imo he made the right call and she started going full ree since osaka was just outplaying her overall. while i see this whole sexism issue she shouldnt be saying that if men can get away with it women should be too. was a big serena fan kinda dissapointed now.

Not sure how anyone can watch that clip with her reaction and still defend her after that. Very ugly conduct. That image puts it well. The winner even cried and made an apologetic post-game speech.. Was sad to see.

The debate got pretty clouded though, with people claiming that the rule about coaching is never enforced, especially when it comes to the men... but then a bunch of people were saying that wasn't the case at all apparently. So you can debate the initial infraction however you want, but the following stuff could have been prevented by Serena IMO. She at least was classy when the match ended and everything.

Yeah I think this is the correct opinion to have, the first infraction was omo, but is it really valid to immediately reach to identity politics when resident legend and superstar starts throwing a hissy fit? That cartoon seems pretty accurate as far as the scenario goes. I can see why it's racist, not necessarily why it's sexist but I digress.
