It seems like we're having another short manga trend, since Dr. Stone looks to be wrapping up soon along with Neverland.

I really don't think Dr. Stone is going to wrap up anytime soon. The original goal was to rebuild civilization, not beat Tsukasa, and the manga is still very far away from rebuilding civilization.

Remember the series started with the prologue and went to Chapter 1 around ch 13, so we're probably just going move into Chapter 2 soon. I can see it lasting for quite a while going through the whole process of rebuilding society if it stays popular enough for it.

I don't think Neverland will end particularly soon either. The series may be in it's final arc but consider the series has only had 3 arcs so far, and even then one was more of an in-between thing than it's own story so really it's 2 arcs. Before ch 200 sure, but I don't think it'll end until 2020.

I dont even know what the end goal of Dr. Stone would be...revive all of humanity? or just find a way to survive, I guess it'd be some open ended thing unless they find something that would do a worldwide negation of the stoning phenomenon???

I think the first to end could be Yuuna, romcom stuff except for Nisekoi generally end around the 150 ch mark and Yuuna already has the full finale stuff set up pretty much, all it has to do is start it. I think it'll go back to silly shenanigans for a while but maybe not for too long.

I dont know why one would want to end their serialized work. Id keep working just for a guaranteed paycheck and no story can never run out of content. Its like why Im so glad BLack CLover has so many unexplored kingdoms, Haikyuu!! has a wealth of powerhouse teams introduced at Kags camp that could potentially be played against in the coming years as well as rematches against Shiratorizawa, Aoba Johsai, and Johzenji, and Date Tech, and Food Wars has infinite potential with the non Japanese culinary world, as well as two more years of high school to explore, and HeroAca has inifinite potential with more interschool competitions and work study things.

Some authors just want to end it for closure, want to attempt something new and/or passing your work on to someone else, or fatigue from the hardest demographic in manga due overseeing power and character development, building on the long term while presenting the short term goal in each arc, interpersonal relationships between the main cast, side cast, and antagonists and how they affect one another, any societal issues within the world and how the past history and backstories affects the present setting, comedy devotion. You just don't ever know.

Mangaka are also fans of manga and have probably all experienced a series they love getting worse and worse over time. Could you imagine if Jump was just cancel fodder and series like Food Wars and Bleach trucking along, shells of their former selves? Why would anyone read that if no matter how good the series is you know it will just be run into the ground for potentially decades until it's eventually cancelled.

Some series also have clear end goals that can't be extended. Think of Assassination Classroom for example. They have a year to kill Korosensei and if they don't he'll blow up the world. That's stated in chapter 1 so if after the year was up he just says "nah I like you guys, I'm going to follow you to high school too and force us to be in the same class again!" I doubt anyone would like that story.

I think there were ways AssClass could have lasted, More incidents and moments, i think we've all encounted manga where something over the span of a few minutes can last upwards of ten chapters, etc. Just consider how long the actually fighting in the Naruto Great War arc lasted, it was what...three days???.

Just cause something could last longer doesn't mean it should. Or do you want the magazine filled with series like Food Wars and late Bleach with people begging for them to just end already and cancel fodder?

In the begining of Assclass, people theorized that Koro were training the student to prepare them against his race of aliens and the series would become a nekketsu and tbf, what Matsui did was better.

Yes, you can always continue the series, but sometimes the author get tired for writing the characters and setting and try to do something new(and no, Jojo isn't an argument of an author who continue doing the sames, because Part 7 wasn't in the begining a Jojo part, it was something new).
And if you fails doing something new, you can always return with your magnus opus, like Major or Shaman King.

As stated on the author comment from SBR volume 1, it is indeed a JoJo part since the beginning.

In substance, I drew Steel Ball Run as the seventh part of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure saga. However for the readers who might begin with this volume, I preferred not to insist too much on that filiation.
The problem is that to completely bury one's past work in order to create a brand new one is in my opinion, a bad habit for any mangaka. Indeed I think it's important to find a theme which carries on from book to book in the works of an author...

In the next volume talk as Jojo as a finish work
Since seasons pass and man evolves during his life, I think it's important to build what we call the "theme of a work" by basing oneself on the foundations of their previous works, and that wanting to cut oneself one from that past is a mistake we shouldn't make.

Thus, in Steel Ball Run, you will meet characters whose names are similar to some protagonists of the "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" saga. I'd want you to see them as incarnations from a parallel universe, and not as ancestors. However, the theme of this part stays the same, an eulogy of the human. Let's see together what will happen to these people plunged in that strange race that is life!
He probably means in the first volume comment(the one you post) that at first he was planning SBR to be the 7º part but he discard it and make it something different, but if the reader like to think it as the part 7º, it's not a problem.
