Both Orient & Eden Zero sales are going down especially Orient. I hope Orient can recover man.
I think it's expected. Fumetsu no Anata e followed a similar trajectory too. I guess some fans of mangaka sampled the series and dropped it. They shoud stabilize around the numbers they're currently at and the rest is up to the anime. If they don't than there is a problem, especially for Orient.

I don't follow much from WSM, especially sales wise so thanks for that. So Orient should be safe till it gets an anime?

I think orient close enough to the danger zone, for me to say that it's safe until it gets an anime. More like there is a chance that it could survive and gets an anime.

So far it's performing very similar to fumetsu no anata e and if it's continue to do that it should be okay. But you can never know.

What I can say 50-60k sales are OK maybe even a good number for magazine, but not great. They can decide to stick with it until it gets anime and try to see if it's gonna grow like they're doing with Fire Force or they can decide that it's underperforming relative to their expectations and end it.

To be more clear I don't think sales trend of orient is worrying , it's problem it didn't start bit enough. If first volume of orient did as well as eden's zero I would have say that's it's completely safe.

I think Fumetsu to Anata E is a much, much bigger dissapointment/flop here. Coming from a mangaka with such a massive hit like Koe no Katachi (read this manga if you havent) to a 7 days 30k seller is just....

I wouldn't worry too much about EZ and Orient. With Fairy Tail being gone and with NNT ending, Magazine needs these two new action series for the future. Now they have Fire Force on their side and even if it slowly started to lose sales with each new volume, it still ended up getting an anime and right now they will attempt to make it one of the pillars of the magazine(especially since their two big action manga finished). Fire Force is much darker in tone compared to EZ and Orient, so these kinda have different target audiences even if they're shonen manga from the same magazine. EZ is a large scale space sci-fi adventure story and it's much friendlier to a larger audience and the perfect type of thing to get a day time longer running anime or just an anime that doesn't air late at night like Fire Force will. Orient has darker themes and ideas but it's still very optimistic and goofy, it's a fun large scale adventure fantasy story.

EZ and Orient are both pretty crucial for the future of the magazine. All things considered, Orient is doing really well in the current manga market even with the decline.

I don't know. Like i said it's hard to know what they're expecting from this series or how they're feeling about their performance just by looking numbers. Since they're not doing great or bad.

Koe no Katachi was kinda a special case. Premise really resonated with people, it had so much buzz even before it's debuted. But i don't think expecting her to recreate success of it again is fair. I think it should have more casual following than something like Magi which was not any weaker than Koe no Katachi in it's peak. Not to mention Fumetsu no Anata e is very different than Koe no Katachi and doesn't seem like it's has a broad appeal. I didn't read it yet so i am sorry if am wrong about that.Overall I think it's doing okay really.

I think they're gonna be okay too, But really can't be so sure about orient. Even though it had only 3 days and threshold was high not making oricon list kinda worrying. Even though they need action series, if it's drop below 40k it's probably dead. All in all it should stabilize soon, and hopefuly it will.

Eh even if it dropped below 40k I'd still see it sticking around for a while (10-15 volumes). They didn't go out of their way to get the mangaka behind hugely successful Magi on accident. The only way I could see it ending early is if the mangaka is discouraged and wants to try something else, but I doubt that will happen. Even if they decided to end it, it's not like they will be able to find a new action manga that will instantly and easily sell better. Even in the most popular shonen magazines at the moment, new action manga are really struggling to take off. Magazine doesn't even really bother with rookies or newer authors for action manga like WSJ do. Magazine just goes for established mangaka or artists. I don't know if they will be able to get something better than Orient, since the mangaka behind it is very talented and very experienced and I'd say it's a very solid manga so far. I don't think Kodansha is comfortable with the idea of completely falling behind WSJ in the action department, even if action has never been the main focus of Magazine. They relied on Fairy Tail and NNT as long as they could but they need some kind of replacements for the readers that want these kinds of stories. Opportunities to get such capable mangaka to work for the magazine are very rare, Magazine did a great job on getting the authors they did to make Nanatsu no Taizai, Fire Force and Orient. Not many are willing to draw weekly shonen manga at such a high quality level, only the most talented and most experienced can do it. These very talented people can always go do a monthly manga instead, they have that option.

I actually didn't mean that they would cancel it immediately after it's dropped below 40k. Honestly it could last or 10-15 volumes or still get anime. I have seen series in worse situation getting an anime. Especially from Kodansha.

It just when a series starts to decline it's really hard to reverse the momentum. Most of time even an anime doesn't change that. At the moment i think for a series from a popular mangaka dropping a little from first volume it's normal. But if it's continue to drop than that's a problem. If that happens i don't think getting an anime will help it. And it's probably won't help their lack of action series at all, at most it will be an temporary solution.

Of course all of them are speculation, for what we know it could stabilize or even grow in future volumes.

Also while finding succesful action series hard, it's not impossible. Even tough Tokyo Revengers is somewhat different from Fairy Tail, Nanatsu no Taizai etc. it's still an action series, and it's doing very well.

In any case Hitman going to be an interesting case about how much leeway magazine gives veterans. It's stabilized in an number which is interesting. mid 20s are definetily not flop territory but not really an okay number either. I wonder how long it's gonna last.

Hitman Sales
v01 - 2018/10 - 19,853 (05) | 27,903 (12) | 31,263 (19) | 33,319 (26)
v02 - 2018/12 - 17,988 (07) | 22,592 (14) | 25,297 (21) | 27,303 (28)
v03 - 2019/03 - 10,391 (03) | 21,639 (10) | 25,302 (17)

More action would be nice but it's been better than other years. Magazine has way better artists than Jump imo, just less interesting genres:

Tokyo Revengers is an action series but it's defining characteristic is that it is a delinquent manga. Also the mangaka behind it is a very experienced veteran and he worked for Kodansha before.

Yes Tokyo Revengers wasn't from a newbie mangaka. I just meant that it's possible for them to find succesful action series. As for whether it's from an newbie, or veteran mangaka, it doesn't matter really.

I just think it's wrong to think that they won't be able to find a series doing better than Orient. I am sure there are other experienced mangaka like Wakui Ken, given the chance, could do better. Even if their previous series wasn't as succesful as Magi, FT etc.

That doesn't mean they should cancel Orient or anything like that. There could be a lot of reasons to continue it even if it drops below 40k or even 30k. They could even continue it in another magazine like bessatsu shounen magazine, who knows?

I am still betting on Kanojo Okarishimasu getting anime announcement this year. Then, it should be Runaway, then Eden's Zero and Orient.

Theeeen by 2021-2022, if they are still alive, the trio of Blue Lock, Gamblers Parade, and Shichi ha Gojuroku

PD: When I find all Magazine raws from this week in internet except the chapter 1 of Shinanaide Azukawa-san. Come on, internet ;_;

Fumetsu no Anata e, Kanojo, Okarishimasu, Runway de Waratte and Tokyo卍Revengers are the next ones in line for anime announcements. I don't know if all of them will be getting animated. Eden's Zero will probably take longer unless they rush out an anime, which is possible.

Chapter 1 was added for free viewing on Weekly Shonen Magazine's official website. As the kind of guy who usually likes SOL series, this one didn't really seem to do anything for me visually. Hopefully the dialogue is good because otherwise, this one isn't really doing much for me

Go-Tobun no Hanayome : 4 500 000 (with digital).
huh that is quick.

is the 4.2 number from last week including digital as well?

If not that is certainly a significant digital physical split

Kimi ga Bokura wo Akuma to Yonda Koro - 500,000 (6 volumes) - not including digital, right?

I knew shoseki was unreliable, but i didn't expect it to be that much. This never make the shoseki weekly list and never make the daily list more than 2 days either. I didn't see it making oricon list either, but that one can be explained by the fact that it had only 3 days of sales.

And I was wondering why they're keeping this around for so long, while canceling stuff doing way better than it. Apparently they weren't doing better.

if that averaged over 100k per volume and doesn't includes digital, that is a pretty huge skew to retailers not covered by the trackers lol,

which is ultimately the main weakness of trackers like shoseki and oricon
